Insect_queen After watching POTO for my 14th time, and listening to the CD like a billion times xD I came to thinking, that im just not sick-minded and it might actually be about sex. i shall give you some reasons why I think so
1)What sweet seduction lies before us . . .?
2)I've already imagined our bodies entwining defenceless and silent
3) The whole song looks like he's seducing her.
Dont get me wrong, PoNR is one of my favorites off the soundtrack. I just want to know what you all think about it : ) i know i thought the same thing when i saw the movie and then my friend tried to explain it in this big long fashion i did not understand

Yeah, when I first started listening, I was like, "What?" but I totally realize what it's about.
As Joel Shumacher (eh, spelling) said, her love of Raoul is her romantic awakening, but her love for the Phantom is a deep, sexual thing.

I found the same thread somewhere else... *looks about*
It's late and I'm too lazy to find out if someone else has posted thsi quote.
"One final question, how long should we two wait before we're one?"
I was singing at school and I cut off halfway through and realized-- O_O;;;; I can't say that in a Catholic school!!

Ah, I knew when I first listened to the 1986 London cast that PONR was a sexual song. I had to read the liberetto to understand the chorus but I understood SB "In my mind I've already imagined our bodies entwining defenesless and silent" I knew it was a sexual song, and they way Erik held Christine around her waist at the end of the song, acutally in one of the productions he grabs Christine's breasts eek Also the line "The bridge is crossed so stand and watch it burn!" It is Erik seducing Christine, trying to make her his. You know what I mean? Then she will in a sense truly belong to him. There's also a line in Down once more that Erik says "That fate which condems me to wallow in blood, has also denied me the joys of the flesh." The joys of the flesh aka sexual realtionships. MOTN is not in my opinion a sexual song, I think it's Erik seducing Christine into trusting him and trying to get her to see him as a musical genius and show his love more than seduce her at that point. He's trying to gain her trust and love, and PONR is THE seduction song. He wants her, his passion is high, he wants hers to be to. Don Juan Trimuphant didn't strike me as a sexual reference more that he's victorius because he has this beautiful maiden as his lover. THat's me though, do I read too much into things or what?

I remember seeing that and being like... " eek eek eek ERIK!!! I knew you were a perv deep down inside, composing this and all but... eek ON STAGE?!?!?!?!!?!? gonk "
And then I laughed until I cried. O_o I'm very easily amused. XD

I love PoNR... lol, the first few times my friend Erin and I listened to it, we were talking about it... i was insisting it was about sex, and she was like "no, it can't be! you're wrong!" Then the day she saw the movie, I got a call with her going "... you were right... sweatdrop "
3nodding It's very obvious, especially if you watch it with subtitles... just watching Erik's and Christine's performances kinda give you a hint, tho. whee

FayeKasumiValentine1 There's also a line in Down once more that Erik says "That fate which condems me to wallow in blood, has also denied me the joys of the flesh." The joys of the flesh aka sexual realtionships. Thank you, I was afraid that no one was going to say that in four whole pages. This was the line I used on my parents when we were trying to figure out Mme. Giry and Erik's relationship. They wondered if Meg was actually their child, and I busted out with that referrence and said "Nuh-uh, he's a virgin! : O"

Lol, I know what you mean about PoNR being all about sex and not noticing it right away. When I was a lot younger, like 10-ish, I listened to POTO a lot. Then I drifted away as I got depressed and life starting sucking. Lately I got into it again and now I've been listening almost non-stop. I had forgot the book I had been reading at home so I just sat and listened to POTO. You know, not just drifted away in the music, but really listened to the lyrics and stuff. It got to PoNR and it hit me like a brick. My mouth fell open and I sat there staring at the wall in shock. There aren't many ways to 'pay the bill - tangle in the winding sheets!' that don't involve sex. In PoNR, ALW No, ALW didn't say this. Here I was going to type some line that mentions or alludes to sex from the song, but when I tryed to find one, I remembered that EVERYTHING is singing about sex. It's a great song, none-the-less. A lot of people have mentioned MotN as a sexy song, too. I think it's a much sweeter and sensual song than PoNR. PoNR is just Erik saying 'I want sex! Give me sex!' in a cool, great sounding way.

Very Very True...I agree Erik is telling the world he hasn't had sex and he wants sex. Just in song version!

My version of PONR, including small inputs from myself.
Piagni & Other Dude: When it's late and modesty, starts to mellow with the wine. Me: Erm...Umm...Yeah. Piagni & Other Dude: I will say come hide with me, where oh where of course my room! Me: Ew. Erik: Singsingsingcomeheresingpursuitsingurgesingsingpassionsfusesingmerge. Me: *To little sister* Uh Oh. *Tries to cover sister's ears* Sister: What the heck is your problem!?!?! Me: Leave. Now. Erik: raging fire....rich desire...sweet seduction... Me: And this movie was rated what? Mom: I'm pretty sure it was rated PG. Me: really? Christine: *straps fall of shoulders* Camera: Shows just her shoulders and head Christine: *Looks naked* Me: Ew. (again) Erik: *Attacks Christine's neck* Christine: *is mesmerised* Me: He's going to eat her! Christine & Erik: *Climb up stairs* Christine: How long should we two wait before we're one? Me: Obviously Rachel wasn't listening to the lyrics when she told me it was a totally appropriate movie and that I should totally see it...(Rachel is a friend of mine who freaks out at the word sex, or anything that has to do with any word of that nature, for no reason) Song: Ends Me: Wow. That song was....perverse. But sooo.... Erik: Wonderful? Me: Yeah...

Well Don Juan was originally a play about a man who had a bet to have sex with was it a thousand woman? I can't remeber. Anyway, this was a different play, and yes the song is about having sex. When it came to the line:
The sleeping bud burst into bloom,,
That gave me my first clue, and me and my friend got freaked out. But no, you aren't a perv.
