Microsoft or Nintendo wouldn't really need to buy anything from Sony. They are all what they are, Independant Games Consoles, each appealing to their Own Audience, you yourself stated you are and RPG gamer so therefor like PS2, but you also said Ps2 was the best period, when it IS the weaker of the 3 Graphics wise. You have to be able to play and have played a Wide range of Games to be able to judge. One of the main factors is mainly that Sony got there first. They released their console first, then had a year headstart, dropped their prices when the other consoles came out and undercut them with the price and wide choice of games. It's been hard for Xbox and Gamecube to keep up, but Gamecube overtook Ps2 in Japan and Xbox is actually catching the sales of the Ps2.
It's just a matter of preference in the end. I own all 3 and i like an equal amount of good games for all 3. About the only 3 i agree with in your statement is that PS2 is for RPG games, Xbox is for shooters and Gamecube for fun multiplayer. Of course each has it's own in each other categories but not as good as the other. For example, i don't think Nintendo or Microsoft can match the Final Fantasy series RPG wise on the PS2 (even though Sqauresoft was originally with Nintendo), But The Ps2 can't keep up with Xbox for graphics and Shooting/Fighting games, And for multiplayer, the Gamecube leaves a trail of destruction in it's wake (Excluding Xbox live and the soon to be FF11) Although System link play with the Xbox is exceedingly satisfying. Whereas you need a multitap for anything more than 2 players for Ps2.
Yes as it stands in the rankings of the most sold the pecking order is
1. Ps2
2. Xbox
3. Gamecube
On paper and actual graphics it's a different story;
1. Xbox
2. Gamecube
3. Ps2
Another fault with the Gamecube is not it's lack of Games, but the lack tha has actually been released in English speaking countries, Gamecube things have been mainly kept in Japan and whatever the rest of the world gets is luck.

No disrespect, but i have every right to judge whatever i want. I PREFER RPGs and action games. I play a wide range of games from RPGs all the way down to racing games. I don't give a damn about what the hell paper says. PS2 is the best system. If Gamecube would spread its influence, it would do better. If Xbox would stop putting out crap for games, they would catch up. Xbox hasn't utilized what it has. Right now it is all just potential. If they would use what they have, and persuade SquareEnix to make even just some remakes for the Xbox, I'd consider getting an Xbox. PS2 may have the worst hardware, but it's king of the hill right now, and I estimate it will be there for a while. Again, no disrespect, but I don't like being pigeonholed. If you feel I have done that to you or any of the aforementioned systems, I truly apologize, and admit I was wrong for doing so. Since I can't stand hypocrites either. So if I was one, I'm sorry. You do have a well articulated arguement though. And you didn't flame either. I respect that, since most of the ppl on Gaia are like "I'm right, no matter what you say." Alright, I'm done *Whew* Out of breath.

bah, to each his own console i say razz there's no point getting mad at each other since each system provides each person wit sumting special. Otherwise, they wouldn't have gotten it in the first place...I have all 3 of the systems so i know wut i'm talking about...I got gamecube first cuz i wanted to play super smash bro melee and then i got the ps2 cuz i wanted i wanted to play ffx and dynasty warriors...and eventually i got xbox cuz...umm...well i forget but i got it lol
