Don''t box me in... Quest 4; Larger is better.
As soon as Ante''s room was finished Fausted picked up the charm figurine and went with Sunflash outdoors toward his stables. She surveyed the area around it and looked over the wood that surrounded it, "I think we''ll clear out the back here and make a larger jumping course for you...Use the timber for that to rebuild your stall and make a fence and add to the course..."
Sunflash twitched his ears a bit listening to the plans, nodding his head faintly. He agreed with this plan. His tail swished a bit behind him as he tried to picture it, but Fauste interrupted him, "Let''s go at it."
They worked at the stall for a good couple of days. She had kept his old "room" and just added a new room near by, sort of like a living room for changelings. The outside looked completely transformed, the inside was larger as well.
When they were done the third afternoon, Sunflash was glad. He had slept outside the whole time having insisted on it even if Fauste offered to let him sleep indoors somewhere in the cave-house.
Not that he didn''t enjoy sleeping out doors, but having a home to himself to hide out in was great, and now there was a course in the back where he could practice running and jumping all day long. He could be back there by himself now that the fence surrounded it, though he was sorely tempted to try and jump over that as well.
"Alright, have a rest. Tomorrow I''ll get ourselves a picnic ready and we can go explorin'' somewhere." Fauste said after cleaning up the tools.
Sunflash seemed excited at the prospect.
"You get to pick the spot." Fauste said with a smile and went indoors.
After Fauste had left Sunflash uttered a quiet, "Thank you" She could have understood it if she hadn''t left before then, but ''Flash wasn''t aware of that fact either. Neither of them were. It didn''t seem important they had other ways, but Sunflash was starting to feel the mental link weaken, like he didn''t need to talk to her with pictures anymore -- why? He gave his own version of a shrug and went into his stall to look at the furniture Fauste had brought in for herself to rest on when she came to visit him. On a red sofa he found a small phoenix toy similar to Ante''s that Fauste had appearently bought for both of them. One plush for each. Sunflash took the plush in his muzzle and moved it to his room and put it on the shelf next to the bunnies.

Wait, you can talk? Mission 4 & Quest 6; An Outing, yay! [pt: 1]
Fauste sat cross-legged on the bench that rested next to a pond outside of Sunflash's newly enlarged stall. In front of her floated a parchment that wrote on itself as Fauste dictated what she wanted the letter to say when it arrived to whoever it was for. Sunflash didn't much care either way, he was ready to spend some time away from this place. Fauste had disappeared a couple of days ago due to some sort of an emergancy. Something about babies that Sunflash didn't quite comprehend. Ayisha and Masika seemed more than capable to take care of themselves. Then again 'Flash didn't quite understand the whole situation that had happened.
Now things seemed back to normal -- sort of. Fauste had mentioned setting up a playdate for 'Flash and another changeling, which is what the letter was for. 'Flash was happy not having many friends. Forest and Bay were just fine even if he hasn't seen them since their rather long trip together. Occassionally Sunflash would gallop around, come up behind Fauste and impatiently nudge her back. That didn't seem to wreck her concentration. He did this a couple of times before she shocked him with a "Alright! Time to go!" Just as he nudged her one more time. She leaned down and gathered a basket that rested near by and the scroll disappeared after rolling itself up. 'Flash let out a joyful sounding whinny and reared back a bit and started to gallop off.
"Wait just a minute 'Flash!" Fauste called trotting up to catch up to him. "I only have two legs here." Fauste huffed.
Sunflash came to a halt giving a small huff of his own, is tail twitching a bit with mild impaitence. "You haven't even told me where you wanted to eat." Fauste chided when she caught up.
Sunflash looked up and away rather haughtily. It had been a long while since he tried to communicate with mental images with Fauste. Truth of the matter was they might as well not have the ability at all now for all the use it was.
They walked together in silence for a moment. Sunflash stewing over the current troubles. He looked over at Fauste and noted she wasn't paying much attention to anything. 'Flash then looked from her to the ground and noted that a rather large pothole was coming up in the path.
Without even thinking Sunflash spoke to Fauste, "Hey! Watch out." He turned and nudged her just before she stepped into it.
Fauste gave a shocked yelp and stumbled to the side of what could have seriously sprained her ankle, "What? Who?! HEY! You spoke!"
Sunflash stopped in his track just a little ahead of Fauste and looked mildly shocked, "You can understand me?!"
They stared at eachother in disbelief for a moment.
"When'd this happen?" Fauste asked cautiously after a moment.
"Heck if I know? During our trip? A little after. I don't know." Sunflash replied sounding slightly irate.
Fauste gave a small flinch at the tone looking away from him, "Hey. I'm just as confused as you are..."
"S..Sorry. I didn't mean to sound like that. I just am very surprised." Sunflash replied.
"Yeah I know." Fauste said and patted Sunflash on the nose. "Let's keep walking, would hate to eat in the dark."
"Uhh, right." 'Flash started walking a little after Fauste got a head start. His mind brooded over what had just happened.
"So got a place in mind that you can tell me about now?" Fauste said after a few seconds of walking in silence..
"Uhh, near some caverns there is a good spot, and maybe after we finish eating we can go explore them?" Sunflash said hopefully.
"Sure, sounds good, I got some spells to help us see in the dark there." She muttered thoughtfully.
"Awesome!" His mood had brightened considerably.
Fauste merely chuckled as they continued along to get to their appointed picnic spot. This would be a good outing. She barely glanced at the avaling and it's pouch it rested in. She knew Ante would be okay so long as the pouch stayed in one piece.

Weird Old Hermit Men and Picnics! Mission 4 & Quest 6; An outing, yay! [pt: 2]
----
OoCish Note: Yes this is still same day though this post occurred some days after. Been busy past couple of days. >P
---
They talked back and forth having come to realize they could pretty much verbally communicate now. How silly of them not to realize this sooner, but it was hard to tell for sure unless the foal actually would speak to it's protector.
"Are we almost there?" Sunflash sort of whined a bit at this point, "I'm getting really hungry!"
Fauste raised an eyebrow, "You picked the spot," she pointed out that fact, making Sunflash's ears lay back a bit making him appear as if he felt foolish.
"Well, yeah. Though I didn't think you would be so slow!" He teased her now, "See! Four legs are better than one." At that point he stumbled as if karma felt the need to pay him back straight away.
"Yeah four are better than two. More to stumble over," Fauste laughed a bit and shook her head, "You alright?" She patted his neck a little.
"Yeah..Yeah fine, I'm fine. I wish I had wings, like that I can fly with instead of walk." He muttered under his breath softly.
"Woah now. You ought to master walking, running, and jumping first before wanting to fly. We went over that hullabaloo before." Fauste replied to the muttering somewhat sternly, "Besides, you'll get those wings soon enough."
Sunflash gave a small huff and stared at the ground for a moment or two as they walked.
"Look up, 'Flash. You can't see where you are going if you keep looking down." Fauste said after letting him sulk a few moments.
"But it takes so long." He replied again a faint whine in his voice.
"Yeah, but when you are all grown you are gonna wish you were little again. Cause once you have grown up, there are a whole new set of problems you gotta deal with." Fauste explained, "And with those problems you don't want to whine at them to make them go away, you can't. You also can't look down the whole time because the solution will fade away if you can't see it."
Sunflash remained silent as if letting all of those facts soak in for a few moments.
Fauste just kept walking occassionally gently leading Sunflash when needed as the foal still hadn't looked up to see where he was walking. That was the problem of staring down. You often didn't see the bumps ahead you only saw the bumps right when you stumbled upon them or were about to.
"I was like you, anxious to grow up and prove myself. Though, when my chance suddenly appeared I bumbled and ended up with the wrong sorts and got into a bad life that was nothing but trouble. Though my childhood wasn't all that great itself, but I was determined not to live like a dirty street child anymore." Fauste said with seriousness.
Flash finally looked up but at her. There was a faint look of understanding and respect in his eyes he stopped causing her to stop and look at him curiously.
"Thanks ... Mom." 'Flash said after a moment, "You been a mom to me more than anything else. I love you like you were my mom even though we don't look a like. We aren't even the same species and I think of you as my mom."
Fauste just smiled a bit, "Come on. The food'll rot by the time we get there. I think it is right close, I'll race ya."
At that they both took off at a run. Despite her basket load in her arms she ran quite fast, just a little faster than 'Flash. They both dodged the dips and bumps in the road by keeping attentive to that and not eachother. Besides it was easy to hear if the other had some form of complication like falling or some such thing.
Sunflash pulled ahead and got to the intended spot first. Though he screeched to a stop upon seeing an old man resting near by. Fauste stumbled up beside him panting.
"Wh..Why'd you stop." Fauste panted glancing around before she saw the old man in nothing but rags, "O..Oh.."
The old man didn't seem to notice them for a few bits, but suddenly began to speak, "I may be near blind, but m'sniffer says that a pair are near by. Bet y'intend on goin' in those caverns too." The old man in a voice that sounded as if it had gotten rusty with years of disuse. "M'sniffer also says one of you is at least half-elf. I hope y'have an alternative lighting cause y'magic won't work 'ere."
Fauste raised an eyebrow, "How do you..."
But before she could finish the old man poofed in a bit of black smoke causing her some un-ease. "Let's set up here."
"We still gonna explore in the caverns right?" Flash asked a little concerned about the turn of events.
"Of course 'Flash. We aren't gonna some old creep scare us away."
Sunflash seemed relieved and began to do what he could to help Fauste set up the picnic.

Picnic and Cavern Exploration! Mission 4 & Quest 6; An outing, yay! [pt:3]
---
OocIsh Note II: Long outing ne? It's almost done. >P
---
They ate together in silence for a while just enjoying the surrounding area and eachother's company. Sunflash would sometimes root around in his food that Fauste set up for him. Most of it was apples.
"Can you put Ante out with us?" He asked after a while.
The question seemed to shock her for a moment, "Why?"
"Well he's a part of the family, and well, even though it is just you and me time, I think it's nice if he could spend time with us as well."
Fauste smiled a bit and nodded, "Alright then." She went to her customary avaling-figurine pouch and set out Ante between them.
"Hello Ante." Sunflash muttered and nuzzled the figurine and continued to eat.
"I am glad you accept us, Sunflash." Fauste smiled a bit, "It makes me so very happy."
Sunflash peered at Fauste as he chewed on another bit of apple, "You gave me no other choice really. It was either accept you or have you annoy me. Besides, you take good care of me."
"Well glad you think so. You done?" She asked as she finished the last of her food and put up the empty containers.
"Yes." He replied as Fauste reached out and took his emptied things and put them in the basket. He helped her fold the blanket, or at least tried to.
After cleanup was done they hid the picnic somewhere near by. If someone stole it? The joke was on them, the basket was full of empty containers that could be easily replaced.
~~~
Entering the cavern? That part was easy, continuing on for as far as the light stretched into it? Easy yet again.
They walked deep into the cavern and for a part of it they even could use the Avaling for lighting, that was until the darkness of the cavern seemed to swallow up the figurine's flames making everything around them pitch black. Fauste out of fear and unease hugged the figurine to her chest to make sure it was still there.
"What'll we do? I can't see the exit." Fauste muttered.
Sunflash just glanced around and snorted, "He said your magic won't work, and I guess Ante's natural magic won't either. I can still see a little." He moved up next to her and bumped his side against her, "Put your hand on my back. I think I see some light ahead." Sunflash kept moving giving Fauste little chance but to reach for his back before he left her totally behind.
"If only the mark on your rump glowed when we needed it most." Fauste laughed a bit, somewhat nervously. Being this defenceless seemed to bother her a great deal.
Sunflash snorted, that was a silly idea, but then again... Something inside him told him to see if he could concentrate his powers toward that purpose. "And if I could?" 'Flash asked somewhat distantly.
"Then maybe we solved that hermit's riddle or whatever it was that he sprouted at us. If mine doesn't work, and Ante's doesn't work...Maybe something you can do will. That is if you figure out how.." Fauste offered helpfully, or so she hoped.
"Yeah.." Sunflash seemed momentarily distracted for a moment. He was concentrating, he was accessing a corner of the fire magic Fauste had taught him some time ago. Though instead of using actual fire, he thought about the glow it produced, the light. It was something they desperately needed at this time. Before long the sun marking began to glow a soft shimmering light, enough so to light the cavern to where Fauste could see now. The darkness around them seemed to retreat as if afraid of this light. "I did it! Now we can explore better. Cave paintings to your left!" Flash called out exuberantly. Proud of himself for figuring it out on his own.
Fauste looked to her left and chuckled, indeed there was some form of cave painting there. She looked a head as her eyes adjusted and she saw the orange glow that Sunflash seemed to see more easily than her, even in the darkness. "I see what you are talking about earlier, want to go check it out?"
"Do I?! Of course I do." At that 'Flash went a little ahead, guiding Fauste's way. It wasn't long until they reached the very back of this particular cavern, and saw the large crystal that was seemingly locked into the wall.
"Take me home...Take me with you...Take me...home.." Whispered a soft voice in Sunflash's mind. The crystal was glowing a bit brighter now as if in response to the presence of new beings in it's area.
Sunflash blinked, "It wants us to take it home." He wasn't sure why he heard it, Fauste didn't seem to.
"Umm, really? But it looks firmly attached." Fauste muttered hesitantly.
"Doesn't ... matter ... I'll let her...hold..me.." Came the whisper in Sunflash's mind.
"It said it'll let you hold it." 'Flash replied, "It'd be something great to show Ceres from our trip!"
Fauste sighed a bit, still unsure, but she went forward and touched the crystal. As soon as she did there was a faint snap sound of something becoming detached, as if it was supposed to.
"Well I'm throughly freaked out." She patted the avaling figurine with her free hand as if to make sure she remembered to put him up before they had gotten to this point. "Let's go home."
"Yeah..I'm a little..tired.." Sunflash replied with a yawn as he spoke.
They exited the cavern in less time and without conversation. Fauste had pocketed the Crystal somewhere safe, making a definate mental note to visit with Ceres about it and what it meant. After exiting the cavern they gathered their basket and transported home via the wind. Giving Sunflash that distantly remembered feeling of flying, like in the flying lesson he had some time back.
Wings and Plans to Visit A little fun after so many quests and missions...
Fauste was still rubbing her eyes when she appraoched Sunflash's new stall. It took her a moment to open the door as she was still groping for it with her free hand before something wooden and moving slid beneath her fingertips as she lightly shoved it. She was glad she figured out how to work the doors to where they gently rolled open.
"Sunflash?" Fauste muttered softly, "Thought we could go out and visit some--Hey! You look different." She sounded more awake now and both hands were away from her eyes.
Sunflash was looking at his wings in awe, the marking on his rump still glowed but it was more of a gentle shimmering glow, unlike the brighter one in the cavern or even the bright blue he had glowed when she first got him.
"Yeah! I look snazzy!" Sunflash responded excitedly, "Now, what's this about visiting someone?"
Fauste laughed a bit and shrugged, "There is another changeling owner, you need more friends."
Sunflash seemed agreeable to this, it must be the addition of the wings. "See, this is why my back itched last night!" He flaunted his wings by luxuriously stretching them.
She gave a small laugh, "Let's go see if anyone is home."
"Oh. Uh right."
With that they left.
