bandaidd Esteloth bandaidd How do you define "magic"? or "witch" for that matter? The most accepted definition of pagan is someone that isn't Christian, Muslim, or Jew. I believe you can find good and wicked people who are pagan or orthodox religious.... Witch would be someone who practices witchcraft (see above post for definition of witchcraft). To be honest, I'm not entirely sure as to what exactly magic is... *will think on it, and come up with a simili definition to be debated on* So witch is someone who practices "conscious bending or use of magic" but we don't have a definition of magic... I'd like to see that before I comment on witches. I'm sure there are good and evil practitioners, like there are people in every group I have encountered so far...and maybe there are good and evil magics, I'm also thinking their are sincere witches and charlatans... I certainly believe in good and evil powers that can't be explained by normal physical senses nor science and there are good and evil spirits. Well, magic is a tool, certainly, and is neither good nor evil. I don't think people are essentially good or evil either. Their intent is though. As per defining magic: Here is an essay by one of my friends.

AFter much research, I have come across the wonderous Witchcraft Thread. For you lazy people out there, here are the big things: Magic: Magic is the art of causing change (physical, mental and spiritual) in accordance with will by means otherwise unaccepted by science. Witchcraft: Witchcraft is, litterally, the 'craft of the witch', which is the skill of being able to work magick; especially magick utilizing personal power in conjunction with the energies within stones, herbs, colours, and other natural objects. The main aim of witchcraft is to live in harmony with nature, and to understand the processes which go on in nature through observing the seasons, lunar phases, changing tides, etc. Both definitions are curtosy of the thread posted above. I was pleasantly surprised to read it in the witchcraft thread. The whole cursing thing seems to go against it, though.

Actually... the "Do what ye will, but harm none" creed applies only to Wiccans... I think... Not all witches would abide to that (or are required to...) [edit] spelling... xp

Not only because these are, for the most part, good people, but also because there is the possibility of a huge karmic backlash...

Ah. Paganism, Wicca, Witchcraft, and magick. Now there's a subject I like.
I have been a solo-practicing pagan for.. oh... 10 years. I was born and raised into a Methodist Church, and baptized there. But as I got older, I didn't like how they treated me and my curiousity, and I started studying other alternative religions.
I worship nature. I am a very scientific person by nature, and I decided that I found it easier to trust in energies. Energy can not be destroyed, simply put somewhere else. Energy runs through every person, every tree, every animal, and every rock. The wind, the rain, the sky, the water, it's all energies. And magick is being able to understand and weave those energies. Training yourself to tune into those electrical and magickal fields allows a way to see farther into the world around us. I personally feel that there is SO much more to what is around us than what we see. Faith, perhaps, is the right term.
Not to say that I don't believe in gods. I do. Hence, the title Pagan. I draw my inspiration from gods of various religion. My main Goddess is Gaia, or Maia, or Maya, whatever form you wish. The Earth Goddess. Mother Goddess. I also align myself with Aphrodite. She came to me during a meditation session, and I just couldn't shake the feeling that she's there. Maybe it's all bullshit. But I like how whole my personal religion makes me feel. And isn't that what religion is all about? Spirituality. Believing in something bigger than yourself, because so many people can't accept that this is all there is.
Yes. I have an altar. Yes. I wear a pentacle everyday. It's pretty.. silver with various colored stones.
smile
Anyway.. I'm done now. Teehee.

Just to answer the questions you had listed...
Do you believe:
In magic?
Yes, to a point, its not what most people would claim as magic to me its more or less energy between two things. It deals with reactions and actions as well. If you send out good energy you will get that back, more or less you could call it 'karma' as well. However I believe you can change the energy that you send out to bring forth back certian things that you perhapps want as well as in protecting other people, in which case it would be known as 'magic'
That witches are evil?
Which is just a name given to someone who works with 'magic' in almost all cultures there are different names for the same thing, e.g. shaman, priest, onmyoji. It can be used for both good and evil... hence it comes to a matter of the person(s) in question.
That pagans are evil for that matter?
First off the word pagan to someone else, is anyone who doesn't believe in the same things they do. However, in truth a pagan is anyone who is not a Christian, Jew or Moslem. (In other words they are your non-pagans) As for rather or not they are evil, again depends on the person(s) in question.
Why or why not?
The only true evil in this is of course what someone else believes and takes it as... to me it depends on the person(s) in question. To some respect evil, wrong, and bad is just anything that doesn't follow or agree with what ones, beliefs, faith, or morals. I have my own set of morals. So I can only say that it again depends on the person(s) in question.

I believe the mind is an extremely powerful tool and I have some interesting thoughts on magic but I just don't know how to explain them, mabey one day when I have more time I will sit down and tryto explain it best as I can.
