that's ridiculous. Perhaps try to talk to your mum (I mean talk, no accusing). Noone's too old to play videogames (you can refer to the 18+ ratings on games). And that there are plenty of girls/women who play videogames. Some are even doing tournaments.

LunaW0lf I went to my mom and asked her and she says "You're getting to old for games. Besides, you're a girl, you shouldn't be playing so many video games."
(Better late than never?) I think parents should be able to take away games as punishment for things, or if a child is spending way too much time playing, but not for the reasons you've listed. So what if you're a girl? So what if you're x years old? I'm 22 and still really love playing video games. I have a friend who's 27 and still loves playing! My dad is in his early fifties and he'd play Solaris and River Raider for the Atari if it worked. cool As long as games aren't coming between a child and chores/socializing with real people/school work, give 'er!

*shudders*
My mother has 'pulled' vidoe games for a time, to ground me. Thats when I was like... 13 years old. She did actually take my laptop from me several times, saying I had an unhealthy addiction. Its true I have a computer, and online addiction but taking it away doesn't helped. I've been without it for years, and I'm still suffering until I get a keyboard under my finger tips.
She finally understood that it was one of my forms of entertainment. I read, write, draw and do others things. Espically when I've sat down and explained to her. I'm nearly 21 and I know several older people than me who play video games.
Get a few older friends, perhaps college ones to testify that your never 'too old' for video games. Espically some fellow girl gamers if you know them. Thankfully my mother hasn't been too restraining on what I should or should not do... no matter if she disagrees with my lifestyle or not.

TOOO OLD FOR VIDEO GAMES?? CANT BECAUSE YOU'RE A GIRL???? WHAT THE ********!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what is this world coming to, maybe she's sending a message saying " i dont want you to play video games i want you to be more girly and spend time seducing guys around you and spend money on hair and nails not video games" i mean really, my mom lectures me on acting more like a girl...sometimes but that's unsanitary taking away something that's important to you, grandmothers play games for god sakes, and it's a good way to take out anger and frustration after a long hard day, i can understand it if you've misbehaved but not if you've done nothing wrong and thinks you are just getting too old

wow..I guess I should be glad that both of my parents are gamers...though my mother isn't as "hardcore" of a gamer, but still, she understands my need for gaming.

O.O... I think I would die.... hell I'm dieing because I can't convince my parents to get me the PS3 when that comes out (( damn... I have to use my own cash crying I was hopeing to save that for AX too!))
But anyways. Personaly I would have jacked it back by then. And Played when my parents weren't home then, carefuly hid it when I was fineshed I would have to constantly be hooking them up and unhooking them so I would be careful on how I rigged this. (( possibly even put it back when I was done for the night.))
Eventualy my parents would come out of this "your too old for games" thing and I would get caught and be in trouble forever.... but... yeah... maby not... it's a risk.... sweatdrop
Don't listen to me, my parents are crazy and do things like this to me all the time so I am a master at this. ninja

LunaW0lf She took away all my systems, and I have basically ALL of them except a DS and PSP. *dies* My games crying Say to your mom, "You're right. It's time to grow up." Go out and buy some bling bling girly crap sweatdrop , random makeup, and a big purse. Throw out the bling bling and makeup when Mom isn't looking. Get a DS, a pile of games, and keep them in your purse. wink What she doesn't know about she can't steal. heart Also, point her at the websites of professional gamer women. "Mom, it's not a boy thing. That's sexist. I fight against sexism." Then point out to her that a passion in gaming can lead to a degree in Computer Engineering or Game Design, a field that still has a glass ceiling for women that you would like to bust through. Talk about how Game Designers have to be writers, artists, producers, directors, programmers, and managers. Get gushy about the idea of going to college to get a degree in design. Be excited about the idea of learning how to program complex algorythms or tackling the demands of teamwork and management. If she thinks that gaming will lead to something "productive" she might not be so quick to take your games away. Parents usually want their kids to turn out to be something great; so tell them you will be a top-tier female executive by the time you're done. Remind her that The Sims was designed by a woman. Show her the graphs on this page: http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20040211/olsen_01.shtmlExplain to her you could end up making $100 grand a year in a creative role if you're ambitious enough. In an executive role, you could be making $200 grand. And just to hammer the last nail in the coffin twisted tell her that your "big dream" is to make "educational games that will encourage kids to learn science and history through games." (You know, a mod of Quake where teachers try to shoot you if you get a math problem wrong, only you're faster and blow their head off first.) That'll hit most parental "sucker" buttons. ninja

Mine would never give them back if I said anything agains their decision. A lot of parents think they're always right.

LunaW0lf So, this morning I awoke to find my PS2 missing from its spot, and I FREAKED. I walked into my brothers room to see if he took it, and it wasn't in there. I went to my mom and asked her and she says "You're getting to old for games. Besides, you're a girl, you shouldn't be playing so many video games." At the same time, when I signed onto AIM and MSN, a couple of my guy gamer friends told me that their systems had been taken away too. What is wrong with people?!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! My brother says I'll grow out of video games, BUT I CAN'T!! IT SEEMS INHUMANE crying Someone tell me what to do crying I WANT MY GAMES BACK! She even took away my freaking GBA!!!! Have any of you ever gone through this?! She took away all my systems, and I have basically ALL of them except a DS and PSP. *dies* My games crying From what you said, I think it wasnt right for her to do that becuase there is nothing wrong with likeing to play video games and your a girl. There is no age limit to video games, you cant get to old for the becuase they are for everyone. Why dont you try asking your mom why she did it and what she thinks exactly about it. Matbe she just thinks you play them to much like where you put off more important things like chores or play them all the time. You could try asking her if you could please play them as long as you dont do it all the time and make sure you do other stuff to or something. Just a suggestion ^_^ My mom doesnt mind me and my sisters playing games as long as we dont do them all the time and we still do our chores and all. My oldest sister, she plays her game WoW alot but she still does her school work and everything else thats more important. She stays up almost all night, but thats just becuase she's used to it and doesnt have the same kind of sleep hours as us. 3nodding I hope I helped you! heart

Epidemic of Insanity Is your mom part of a radical church group? Perhaps all your friends moms and your mom have conspired to end video-gaming for all! Those crazy church groups... My aunt's group told her that manga was "kiddie porn" Guard the DS and PSP with your life.... lol I think the reason some people think it's anime and manga is bad is becuase they dont know everything about it. Not being rude just saying. Anime and manga are just another type of cartoon, and not all of its bad. Yes, most of it's based on Japanese religion, but it depends on what kind it is. It's okay! Their are porn and stuff like that of Manga/anime, but there is also ones that are good, and dont have that stuff, just like real life movies and shows, they are rated, some bad some good, same with that. And the church groups who say it bad and they should end video gaming, It's cuase they think it takes away you r time from other important stuff and it's all about violence and crap, BUT it's not! It's okay as long as you make sure you dont put off you chores and stuff. And again, not all of it is violence and crap, alot of it is good actually and fun to! ^_^ heart Not all chuches are like that though ^_^
