Bird Draggon

Raven bit her lip, poorly stiffling guffaws. "Siwwy," she chastised, "Bee... s.. slue? Slll..ow! Slow!" The child moved forward, past Alex, in demonstration. She crouched low to the ground, still a bit too clumsy for catching butterflies upright, and extended a hand, feathers sticking out to one side.

Earlier that morning, Raven had discovered the sugar bowl, and had been sticking her arms in it as much as possible, liking the feeling much more than the actual taste. That, above all else, baffled Bird to no end. But, in the process, her feathers had been neglected by the brief washing, and were still covered in the tiny crystals.

The sugar beckoned to the dancing butterflies, and they weaved through the air to land on the outstretched feathers, flapping their wings and getting settled before feasting. Raven slowly stood, moving back over to Alex. "See?" she smiled, holding out her covered arm with the exotic colors twitching and moving on it. "Take one. Slow... caweful."

"Slow..." Alexander repeated in a tiny whisper, quietly processing the girl's suggestion as he reached out towards her arm. Slowly, not wanting to be evaded by the tiny creatures for an easily humilaiating second time, he grasped one of the numerous butterflies, his tiny hands cupping together as his treasure fluttered about inside.

"It...it.. tickles!" He squirmed, afraid he was going to let go of the small wonder. "Waven..how you keep them on yu?"

Raven blinked, pondering the question. "Uhm..." She examined her arm with a critical eye. "I... dunno," she confessed, smiling sheepishly. "Mebbe fweathers?"

One of the butterflies traveled up her arm, snooping for more crystals, as it had been shoved out of the way by the vast amount of its bretherin below. She giggled, trying not to wiggle. "Does tickwle!"

"Feathous..." Alexander looked over his own shoulder, peering at his own wings. No flutterboos there? No fair! He flapped them in dismay, and in the process, terribly frightened the butterfly which he was holding. The animal wriggled it's way from the boy's grip, and flew away, dissapearing into the tall grass before long.

"...Flutter...BOO!!" This time, Alexander couldn't help the tears which began flowing openly down his cheeks. Waven had all the luck! And now his flutterboo was gone?!! Sobbing wildly, he sank to the ground, his face buried in his hands.

"Noooo!!" He wailed, kicking at the ground desperately.

Raven's smile drooped into a sad frown as soon as the tears started to flow. She blinked, confused, as Alex threw a wobbly.

"Awex! AWEX!" Unable to capture his attention, Raven examined her arms, noticing that the flutterboos only gathered on her one arm.. the arm that hadn't been cleaned of sugar. Brilliance erupted in her mind, and she snagged her idea before it escaped.

Plucking one of her smaller feathers (and scrunching up her face at the sting), Raven succeeded in luring two of the multicolored flutterboos onto it. She held it out to Alexander, poking him in the arm to get his attention.

"S--sugaw."

At Raven's touch, Alexander peered up at her, wiping his eyes anxiously. "Sugaw...?" He blinked several times, his face stained from tears, and he slowly reached out, accepting the feather graciously.

His face lit up at once as he watched the butterflies twitter around the feather, finding and eating every grain of sugar they could find.

"Sugaw!!" He repeated, forgetting his sadness at once. He was amazed! Not only one, but two flutterboos were prancing around on this one little feather! And he didn't even have to touch them!

His gaze focused back onto Raven for a moment, and a wide smile passed across his face. "Thankoo Waven! Yay flutterboos!!!" He nodded happily, grateful for his friend's kind action. Pulling out a feather had to hurt!

Several of the other flutterboos noticed there was more room on the other space, and decided to feast there instead, migrating over toward Alex.

Raven looked delighted. She clapped, startling the butterflies off of their perch and fluttering their wings madly to regain control, forming a cloud around the children. Raven giggled at the soft touches the wings made, pleased.

Some of the disgruntled butterflies touched down on Raven's feathers again, still hungry. Others flew away. And yet some, feeling the inexplicable aura of happiness surrounding the children, decided to dance around them instead, finding the two just as pleasing as any flower might be.

"Fwee!!" Alexander exclaimed, tucking Raven's feather into the band of his goggles as he mimicked the butterfly's graceful movements, laughing and clapping as he time and time again tumbled over and picked himself back up. A few butterflies remained faithful to the single feather, causing a slight swarm to appear, hovering around Alex's head.

"Come on, Waven!" He cheered, taking both of her hands, insisting she dance right along with him.

Raven shrieked in glee as she was snagged into Alexander's dance, laughing. She did her best to copy the butterflies' movements, sticking her arms out and twirling around Alex at one moment, the butterflies following her sweetened arm.

One of the butterflies landed on Alex's nose, and she stopped dancing for the moment, chuckles shooting through her. Raven politely tried to cover her mouth with a hand.. but there was a butterfly on that, too.

"Flutterboos WHOOO!" Alex grinned, poking at the butterfly which had landed directly inside his field of vision. He had gone slightly crosseyed while trying to seek out the little animal, and after several prods, had finally managed to get the butterfly to rejoin the ranks of it's fellow kind.

The whirlwind of butterflies seemed only to thicken.

"I wonder what they're doing..." Feather said with a sigh, sinking against the trunk of the tree which she had been lying down under hours before. Her stomach grumbled suddenly, interrupting her train of thought.

"Hey..." She looked over at Bird, holding up a ham sandwhich tightly bound by several pieces of plastic wrap. "You hungry? I brought enough food for an army, let alone just the four of us."

She took another bite of her sandwhich with her other hand.

Raven, spurred by a mischevious thought, shrugged casually and walked around Alex, trail of butterflies following stubbornly. When his eyes hadn't followed her, she grinned, let out a battle cry, and tackled him from behind throwing and latching her arms around him with no intention of letting go anytime soon.

"I dunno..." Bird said, leaning back on the grass. "When I was a kid I made up stories with plastic figurines." She glanced up briefly at the mentioning of food, pondered for a moment, before nodding and sitting back up. "Sounds like a plan t'me... do you have any cookies? Because a certain somebody's eaten all of mine." She cast a slightly sour look in in the direction that Raven had gone, but it melted away as quickly as it had come.

"H-hey!" He exclaimed, swallowing a gulp of forced air as he tumbled forward, landing face first into the grass. Upon recovering from his inital shock of being tackled so suddenly he turned over on his side, laughing.

"No faiure! Youw're such a meanie!" He teased, continuing to giggle. The butterflies remained floating around them, jittery, as if they found the event funny, as well.

"Uh...cookies...Funny story about that..." Feather reached over into her backpack, and rummaged around for a while. After moments of hearing the crinkling sound of rustling plastic bags, she pulled out a package of cookies. Each were laced with...chunks of meat. Faint smears of blood covered the outline of the container.

"Uhm..yeah...Alex likes these. They've kinda got some raw meat in them. T-Bone meat, to be exact. As if I wasn't broke enough!" She poked at the package cautiously, almost as if the cookies were planning to come out and attack the both of them.

"He whines and moans if I give him anything else, so this is all I have..." Her cheeks became slightly flushed with embarassment. Caught with bloody meat cookies. Didn't get a whole lot worse than that, ne?

"The sandwhiches, however, have meat that's fully cooked. I SWEAR."
