Are they still threatening excommunication? As if that would be a total loss, other than the being shunned by people.
Half of my family here in Calgary are strongly Roman Catholic, and they even get worked up about the cross-dressing guy on M.A.S.H., so coming out to any of them is highly unlikely. I had to cut off one LDS schoolmate, on the basis that she couldn't stop ranting about how inherently immoral and twisted GLBT people were. It's now a taboo subject between her and a close friend of mine, simply because they would rip each other to shreds otherwise.
I don't know if it's fortunate or unfortunate that that is the extent of my dealings with religious based hate, but I can assure you that they can't control your life forever, Kapo. Hopefully you've found someone that can truly understand your situation and good luck.

Well, I was about to try and defend Catholicism and say that we probably understood exactly what he was talking about, but then I decided not to. I figure it'd be a wasted effort.
