Why is it that so many nursery rhymes are about death and pain and suffering? And parents say TV is violent... what about the stuff they read to their kids every night before they go to sleep? gonk
The one that used to get me was the nursery rhyme:
Oh dear, what can the matter be?
Poor old Lucy's stuck in the apple tree
She'll be there from Monday to Saturday
Nobody knew she was there...
Only my name got put in instead. I used to burst into floods of tears every time. I can't remember my exact reasoning but I think it was the idea of being stuck in a tree for the rest of your life... And then occasionally it would be 'lavatory' instead of 'apple tree'. I did get stuck in a lavatory once. Stupid school locks. It was terrifying.
Anyway... used to sing the kookaburra song too. Only one person would start and then the next would start on the line after so they were singing one line behind...
