To murmur an 'I do' or other such rejoinder was unnecessary and therefore superfluous, gratuitous if he bothered. He would therefore refrain - for Cedric would trust to the ways of honor and accept the promise as it was made the first time in codes of intellect and grace. That was something else Edmund appreciated about the other, the recognition of the importance of such trust.

That his friend's smile was amused when talk turned to his mate was... a better sign than he could've hoped for. That had been the one peril he allowed himself to be concerned over - though he had no doubt if put to the test he could find some way to convince Cedric's fragile mate to sway... it would be less convenient, not to mention less than the optimum. It wouldn't do to state any such thoughts, however. "If... your Vasu does not understand or agree with the tradition..." he began, a clear leading unto 'are you certain this is the right path?'

"I really have no idea whether he will or not, to be honest..." Cedric fell to musing once again. "I...believe he will follow my lead, although I can't imagine that he'll be completely enthused about it from the beginning. After all, I would be highly skeptical of letting the responsibility of my child's upbringing be handled by someone else, were it not for the familiarity of this custom."

A bow of the head in mild ascent, an argument for his cause already forming within. Edmund likely would've made one hell of a defense attorney if he could have acquiesced to the bureacracy for but a moment. Though more of the problem between Edmund and any form of law was his perception that it was the lack thereof that made this part of the world so simple to deal with.

"His caution would be no surprise," he said understandingly, "The dissolution of society in these parts has engendered certain fears, which unfortunately but serve to further the disintegration of even the most honored traditions."

"Indeed." The angel looked faintly pensive again, looking at his offspring once more. Another thought came to him, one that he didn't voice yet. How were they going to choose who left and who stayed with them? In the court, it was a given, all male children left when they were old enough. This case was slightly different, and therefore much harder. "It's a pity..."

"A pity?" Edmund murmured in faint surprise, "Perhaps." And then, ever one to turn the tables though this time in no hostile manner, "Though to adhere to another code is no fault nor flaw of his own," an odd claim for the obsessively well-mannered coon to make, but one he sounded sincere in delivering nontheless. "Regardless of however much the traditions of his upbringing may differ from our own, he was of worth and value enough to be your mate, and we must therefore respect his considerations."

Cedric blinked slightly. When had he said otherwise? Ah! "Of course." He nodded slightly. "I was lamenting society in general, not Vasu in specific. Though in some aspects, the fading of the Court is...not completely unwelcome." He was merely making conversation at this point, partially distracted by his own thoughts.

A tilt of head that ended in raise of brow where might've been furrowed concern, Edmund looked at Cedric with a new variety of appraisal. Oh yes, time apart had certainly changed the angel. Not entirely, perhaps, but in certain ways that might make for... hereto unthought of divergence in opinion. It wasn't an unfortunate thing, not necessarily. Not even unexpected. Something to take note of.

"And if I might ask, what aspects did you find so lamentable, Cedric?" he asked in a manner somewhat reserved though drivingly curious. He'd make no effort to hide his interest in this matter.

His lips were pursed slightly as he considered. "It's...nothing distinct, actually." He looked over at Edmund with a wry smile. "I suppose simply that the courtly dance can be...tiring." And even the Prince had to dance that dance, somewhat. He was a strong man, but...not SO strong that he'd been able to pull away entirely, even if he had done almost that. Not strong enough to be exactly who he wanted to be and damn the consequences. "And having girls thrown at you." He made a face. "That was unbearable."

((Should we have them reach the Apartments soon, just for sake of moving along? xD; ))

The coon put on a thoroughly amused smile, for he was in part and saw no reason at all to disguise that fact. "A most tiresome practice, I'm sure," he murmured sympathetically, though a hint of humor crawled in and rode on the tails of his words, clear indication that, why yes Edmund was perfectly capable of joking, even at Cedric's expense. Perhaps especially so. It took an especial familiarity in order to be comfortable in poking fun.

Though... he saw a distinct difference in the perspective on the ways and wiles of the court Cedric had as opposed to his own. It came down to a matter of class and consideration. The dance was a duty and a troublesome one at that for those who had nothing to gain from it, whereas for Edmund... "It must grant you peace to be free of it, then," he said eventually, an almost encouraging note to his tone.

(Yesplease. XD; Not that the conversation isn't scintillating, but...*laughs*)

Cedric glanced at him, and then smiled easily. "Yes, indeed. To both counts. To the first -" He chuckled. "Unless I brought a friend along" And the word friend was...emphasised in such a way that while not crude, it certainly had a double meaning "it was almost certain I'd be one of the only men in the room of any decent age for the abundant young ladies." He could laugh about it now - actually did chuckle a little - because he was free of that. It hadn't been a laughing matter at the time.

After a moment, he looked about and smiled a little bit more. Up ahead were the Apartments. "Almost there now."
