Rose returned a few minutes later with a long-boned, green-eyed teenager - a far snappier dresser than Rose herself, though she looked inordinately proud of him. She poured herself another cup of the vile tea and quickly knocked it back as she made a gesture between both of them.
"Zevulon," she said, "this is Kevin - he's Djerod's son. Kevin, this is Zevulon."

With somewhat sullen shock, Zev stared at Kevin. He knew almost instantly that this was some relative of Djerod's. The face structure was similar, the eyes that same sort of pinched sadness. Zev had never felt more of an alien outsider. Here he thought he knew Djerod, at least as well as anyone could know a member of their family, and now there was living proof in front of him that Djerod had many secrets he would never confide in Zev.
In a way, perhaps this made Kevin Zev's brother, but Zev found himself thinking that he was not Djerod's son and glad for it. Suddenly he had no real family, for Djerod was nothing to him and Emperial might have been something, but she was gone.
Zev's stubborn reticence did not concern Kevin, who stood and reached out a hand towards Zev. "Hi."
Zev stared at the hand a moment before slowly moving to shake it. It was a weak gesture. When it ended neither Zevulon nor Kevin had any enlightenment concerning each other. Kevin looked a Zev a little quizzically. If he had been thrown off by Rose's hair, he was totally disarmed by Zev's appearance. Was this what teens were doing these days? Giant facial tattoos and two-tone dyed hair? Kevin decided he was glad he had been a child of the 80s. The worst he had to show for his youthful indiscretions were photos of him with a bad haircut and leather jacket.
Kevin gave a little shrug. "I guess we should go, then," he said to Zev and Rose, waiting for one of the two to lead him out of the mansion. It was plainly obvious from Zev's stance and posture that it would not by the fa'e who made any sort of movement towards helping Kevin along. The role of social intermediary belonged to Rose.

"We should," agreed Rose softly, and brushed Zevulon's arm gently with her hand: she had been feeling far too much guilt over Diana's actions with Zev, and for the period between had been desperate to try to get some semblance of trust back. "Let's go; I've left a note for everyone - with Ignacia - I suppose we can be off."
She left the room, opening the front door with a far-off click.

Zev glared at Kevin, who merely returned the glare with a look of startlement as he docilely followed Rose through the door. After a momentary pause, Zev brought up the rear.

Rose lead them down in slightly awkward silence outside the gate, and away from Wakefield; she turned to Kevin, hands screwed up again, giving him a rather lopsided smile. "Well, I suppose it's up to you now. Where do we go?"

Kevin pulled a strange rectangular device from his jacket pocket and squinted at the controls. "Hold on to me," he instructed, and Rose took hold of his sleeve. A moment later, a reluctant Zev did as well. Kevin flipped a switch.
There was a definite "plop" sound and all three disappeared.
