Well, here's an interesting point: Which final Fantasy VII character is extremely popular, redheaded, and hasn't appeared in Kingdom Hearts yet? What other character has Axel's voice actor played?
Answer is in white: Reno.
...I'm thinking that might be a hint.

Maybe Reno decided to change his name to...Ale...because..he...drinks? >___O

Axel is in no way related to Riku, Riku never lost his heart like Kairi, or became a heartless like the other nobody's otherselves. Riku doesn't have a nobody. And about the Reno thing, Axel is too cool to be Reno... xp

Or "Lae" because he does other things. Seriously though, the voice actor in Japanese is the same for both characters *and* the voice actor in English is the same for both characters. If I were to have a theory, that would be it.

Spoilers.
Axel can't be Riku's nobody, one..because he died, and that would mean Riku would remain half a person forever...and..<<..their personalities are similar, but not quite the same. Plus, I think they're supposed to be opposite considering Sora's optimistic, and Roxas was angsty...but I guess anyone would be if they found out they were gunna "cease to be your own person".
