"Yeah, I always win," he grinned cheekily.
Oz walked by Aislinn's side as they began their walk. Oz's morning jog usually consisted of two laps around the village, a quick run on the beach, and then back again. He thought it might be nice today to take Aislinn past the beach and a little way into the jungle on a path he used regularly.
The rugby player towered over the would-be vet, and had to keep slowing himself down a few times. He was just so used to trying to get places faster.

Aislinn tried to walk as quickly as she could-- she noticed that he was having a hard time keeping back with her. Still, there was only so much she could do. "So, what do you think you're going to turn into?" she asked, her tone illustrating that she was trying to make light of what could be a very serious situation, "I'm hoping I get something cute and furry."

Oz was reluctant to indulge the subject matter. He was still having feverish nightmares in his sleep about his fate, and whatever animal he might be. What scared him the most was losing his humanity. Would he become all animal? Like so many characters in Disney films that were turned into talking animals for punishment? Would he still keep his hobbies, his likes, his dislikes?
He chuckled. Trust a girl to always want to be something cute and furry.
"I guess we won't really know until something does start to change..." he began, but found it hard to talk about the subject rationally. He stopped suddenly.
"How...how can you just accept it?" the big oaf asked with a slightly pained expression. He didn't know how Aislinn had handled the news, but if she was so calm, he wished he could be only half as calm.

Aislinn shrugged, pointing to her lower body, "I figure...well, with what I've seen anyhow...it's likely that this transformation will fix that problem...and to be able to walk properly again..well, it's worth turning into an animal for..."
She flushed slightly, looking up at the sky for a moment as though that would have the answers, "Honestly, it is a little disturbing. But...well, what's to be done for it? it's too late now-- we're already here and there's no way to escape."

Oz's normally exuberant mood, already dampened from thinking too much, had disappeared completely now. Aislinn had something to possibly gain from this nightmarish scenario, so it could be a blessing in disguise for her. But what of him? He had nothing to gain...but everything to lose. What tormented him the most was not knowing what he was about to become. Would he be changed? Would he still be the big oaf, always eager to make a good first impression?
He started to walk again, keeping his pace nice and steady for Aislinn. His shoulders were hunched up slightly, as if he were trying to shield himself from something he couldn't see and could already start to feel.

Aislinn blinked, noticing his quickly deflating mood. She gently reached out and put a hand on the other's shoulder, "Hey," she said, a soft smile meeting her lips that had more sincerity in it than anything she'd done thus far, "If you keep worrying about it, it'll only make your days worse. Besides, you're not the only one going through this. There are a ton of people who already have and who still are..."
She motioned briefly around the island as they passed the Duplexes, "Nobody here is going to think badly of you for what you change into. Even the ones that have become frightening still have friends."

As if rendered powerless by her touch, Oz stopped in his tracks. He looked down at her, unsure of what she would say. For a thick-set, hot-blooded male...he was being a total wimp.
Once more, she rendered him powerless. He knew she was right but it was still scary for him. Since the loss of his sporting talent, he just didn't have much to impress with. He had only his goofish nature...and if he lost that...who would he be?
"You gotta admit...its kinda scary though...I'm not alone in thinking this, right?" he uttered reluctantly, almost afraid of how Aislinn would judge him now.

Aislinn nodded, "Oh, sure it's scary. I'm more terrified than I'd like to admit. But...I don't know. I mean...I guess all I'm trying to say is that in order to make the best of the situation, first we have to, y'know, accept that it's going to happen and get beyond that. Then we can work out the details."
She brushed a strand of dark hair out of her eyes, looking around herself. This island was unlike anywhere she'd ever been before. While she had done some traveling in her life, it was mainly to the places her siblings had been adopted from, and none of those had been tropical islands-- certainly not with these sorts of problems attached.
"But...hey, if you'll be there for me, I'll be here for you. How's that for a plan, big guy?"

A part of him felt better just knowing that he wasn't the only one scared shitless at the moment. Without knowing what he'll turn into, he won't know how much pain he has to endure...and whether he will be strong enough to avoid pain-numbing alcohol.
"Thats a deal," he replied, smiling in a cute sorta nervous way. "Piggyback?" he offered, trying to take his mind of what was going to happen.

Aislinn grinned, laughing a little bit, "I thought you'd never ask," she teased, "Getting tired of walking so slowly?"
She obviously meant light of it, and she stopped staring about at the island long enough to look at her companion. He was cute, as she'd thought originally, but she'd never expected the sort of overgrown teddybear personae that he seemed to have cultivated. He reminded her a lot of a teddybear, actually. She wondered how good he was at cuddling, absently.
"So, you're from the U.K, right?" she asked, "What's it like there? Ever been to the U.S.?"

Bending down slightly on one knee, he beckoned Aislinn to his back and then lifted her on, hooking his arms about her legs and shuffling about for comfort.
"Yup, I'm from the British Isles, the land of bad weather and cups of tea," he chuckled. He actually kind of loved British stereotypes, they were always ill-conceived but light-hearted. He'd never heard a person yet to refer to the British as cruel or evil.
"And yup again. My parents are very much into culture rather than fun, so I've been to Washington, New York and...San Diego for some of the museums and monuments. Thats about it though, kinda boring really."

Aislinn made sure that her cane wasn't going to hit him in the way that she was holding it, and relaxed a little bit on his back, "I never made it to the U.K circuit when I was riding. Though I've been a few other places my da told me were interesting."
She sighed, looking at the morning sun as it got higher in the air and the two continued their conversation till around mid-afternoon.
((Fin? ^_^ I know you wanted to wrap this up.))
