I'm looking for artists that might be interested in entering my Alice themed art contest.
I want usernames of really good artists, cause I really don't keep track of them. D: You know those who get a lot of gold in auctions and win art contests. ^_^
I know many of you guys have hosted art contests, who won them?
Bring me your artist wishlists! I'd really appriciate some tips. heart heart heart
(BTW: preferences are real media and comic book style, but I'm also interested in CG and other styles)

Eraia I'm looking for an artist who's good at drawing males, ya? Around the 20k mark or $15 rl commison. I don't know that I'm great at the male gender, but not significantly worse than with females. I do marker pictures for 20k, sometimes, depending on how into the character I am.

i think most people hate art contest invitations, chem - even those who enter. if they're interested they'll wait @ least a week before it ends to submit their entries, i'm sure people who do enter contests have seen yours.
at least everyone i know either doesn't enter contests or gets pissed when they receive pasted invitations from people they don't know, even if they don't say anything to the person hosting it discourages them from enterring.
or that's just from my experience, i can only speak for people i know.

That's just wierd. I can't see why people would get offended by an invitation.
I've sent out a lot of invitations cause I don't belive people are keeping track of the forum. I'm not sending PMs though, just posting comments cause PMs can be pretty annoying if you get a lot of them.

I'm not sending PMs though, just posting comments cause PMs can be pretty annoying if you get a lot of them. It probably seems weird in general because invitations don't usually have negative connotations, but I imagine the "annoying" part of it is that it seems like advertising/spam (regardless of whether that's the intent). Since I've never held an art contest on Gaia before I can't really speak from experience, but I'd assume if you were active in any of the art-related forums of Gaia it would increase the chance of people seeing a link to your contest in your signature. It might (or might not) also be helpful to check out the R&C auctions and see if any auction ABs/quests are for items you're offering in your contest.

some people do get offended bc if they wanted to enter the contest they would. these are threads that are open for at least 6 months at a time, whoever is interested is bound to enter. they either saw it there themselves or heard of it from other artists. for them to get a random pasted [not even personalized] invitation, i could see how that would be annoying. some of the people you invited that i know did get mad at you advertising in their profiles, they were just too nice to say anything.
maybe doing something more subtle like asking them personally in a thread would be better or like audley said with the auction thing.
then again, i only know maybe 3 people who actually repeatedly enter gaian contests. most of the people i know see it as a waste of time bc they aren't guaranteed anything for their work and the host gets to keep everything. the universal contest argument.

From my experiance, artists do get annoyed with invites. And from a mod point of view, it could be seen as unsolicited advertisement/spam.
I tired it for one of my bigger contests a year or two ago, and got a pretty negative responce, so now he only time I'll send out invites anymore is to winners of my prior contests.

I send invitations to the larger prize winners of previous contests, or persons who I just really want to enter again because they're inexplicabley awesome (eg. INSERTiON). I get a generally positive/neutral response to it-- or at least, if it bothered anyone they haven't said so.
