The boy's fingers closed on the fabric and jerked the purse away with a horrible tearing sound before either the woman or Quixana could react. However, something about the weighty little bag proved too slippery for him and it spun out of his grip. With a dull clatter, it hit the slippery floor, skidding an extra foot through a puddle of damp blood. Suddenly, it gave another little hop and a sound like a clear bell rang out.
Quixana stared at the bag for a moment and then turned his dark-eyed gaze towards Nathan in clear, disapproving horror. "-Nathan-," he hissed. Immediately, he turned back to offer a bow to the woman. "I'm sorry, ma'am. He got a bit..."
"Never you mind, young man." She smiled, a perfect Cheshire curve of her lips. "Sins must be won fairly."

Anemone, momentarily intrigued by this, started picking her way delicately through the puddles of blood to poke the purse delicately with her big toe. She seemed to have a thing for the toe; she had left the two hairs and the salt far behind. (Exaltation, for his part, was sniffing the blood busily.)
"Fair thievery," she drawled, rolling the words around on her tongue. "How quaint. Justified crim-in-a-li-ty."
