EViLgerbilz sydneyscivit EViLgerbilz sydneyscivit I got to North Carolina Central University. I march piccolo and play flute in our wind ensemble. Are any of you college peoples in KKY, TBS, PMA or SAI? Half of my friends in the band are in TBS, PMA, and SAI. I'm not, though. We don't have KKY at UM though. My friend at UofA told me about the fraternity though. How come UM doesn't have a KKY? I crossed into TBS this spring and I already feel like I've done so much more for my band just by doing my duty as a soror. But anyways.... I'm so tired of slaw people messing up our band program. It seems like in college theres a lot more slaw in the band and a lot fewer dedicated band members. Yeah, my friend is in their MC class. They're always doing stuff for the band. Last week they spent 5 hours cleaning the band room. Bless their little hearts wink Its kinda weird you meantion there's less dedicated band members in college. I think the reverse, actually. In high school the kids were all lazy bums and wouldn't do anything. Not that us college kids aren't lazy bums, but there's still a sort of group spirit. That could be that we're considerably smaller than other schools like FSU or UF, who have like 450 kids. eek Of course there are a lot of really dedicated members. But unlike most high schools, our band doesn't practice durring a normal school day so its very easy for people do just go to the last practice of the week and then try to march during the game. o.O I guess its not that there are more un dedicated people, but that its easier for people who aren't dedicated to be slaw. Especially since the band is getting larger.

Um, University of Tennessee at Martin, Skyhawk Marching Band.
I made the Snare line my freshman year, yeah!. That's right. Bring it on cause I done brought it and it's O V.
Nah, I'm just messing with you. But even though the Music is ten times better in college I still think my high school band was more fun.

I have a lot of respect for music majors because they go through A LOT! At least they do at my school. So many classes they have to take but don't get credit for, o.O

If I wan't at EMU I would want to be part of U of M's band (older siblings went there so I know how cool it would be for me personally) or UMASS's minutemen because the head director there was the person who ran the DM camp I went to. He was totally awesome!!!! The coolest thing though is this fall EMU gets to play U of M and I get to march in the Big House and march with all the U of M bandos! I'm excted because I know some of them. And EMU is a weird marching band because we have so many music majors. normally the band gods that be frown on that sort of thing. oh well The TBS and KKY at EMU are awesome cause they're totally open to cross gender stuff. One of my really good friends is a mister sister and another one is a chick in KKY so it's good stuff. they're all a bunch of nut cases

Atleast 3 of my close friends are music ed majors. They have a huge course load...I think one of my friends said something like 13 classes for only 21 credits next semester. Its unbelievable! But it does make them very prone to whining at me, especially since I have a "lighter" course load. (I say "lighter" in quotes because, even though I have less classes in my major, I think its just as rigorous!)

I know some schools with strong band programs don't even have music majors because they're technical schools. o.O Our TBS and KKY frown on cross gender stuffs. I'm glad because as much as I love the bruhs, sometimes I just want to chill with my sorors and be with the girls you know? UMASS, yeah I thought about going there! I like their band too. The one's I mentioned before are pretty much my favorites though. I plan to go to MSU for grad. school, but it'll be really strange if I end up in the band there. o.O

Hi, I'm not in college yet but I'm starting to look into them, as a high school senior. Some of what I'm looking at in choosing my college is the marching band, but I'm a little puzzled--are high-step/Big 10-style bands really as rare as they're looking to be? o.0; I've never marched corps, but it's looking like that's what all the college bands do. Am I going to be disappointed getting my hopes up about getting into a good high-step/Big 10 college band?
