Donovinhs Knight nathan_ngl Donovinhs Knight my aunt got it back when she got married and got pregnant, she lost it when she went to israel and some religious people really upset her by calling her not jewish because her mother wasnt jewish when she was born. I find it extremely sad that she lost it by going to israel instead of having it being strengthened This might seem a bit harsh, and I'm sorry if it does, but... If that's why she lost it, she never had it in the first place. Think about it... stare you were warned. you're fortunate- if naftali hadn't said anything, i would have.

rolleyes it was rude and obnoxious what they said to her. How would you like to be told something like that if you were raised and believed in something?

It really upset her, took her like 10 years to get over it.

ZonkotheSane RoseRose Some parents don't deserve respect. perhaps not from an equal, but no matter how horrible a parent, the child still owes that parent respect. no matter how cruel, negligent, and bad they were, one still owes his life to his parents. if not for them, one would not be alive. There are times, or at least there used to be, when I wondered if that might have been better... to not be alive... Why the heck do I have to respect a person who destroyed my self esteem? I did... I respected him for years... I can't anymore.

Cheer up, too sad In time, you will earn other's respect, too, and that will matter infinitely more.

Exactly, I agree maybe what I said was a bit harsh, but she should have looked at it like this: Maybe there is a reason they are saying it? There was a reason, a truth behind it. So they said: "If her mother wasn't jewish when she was born, she isn't jewish unless she converts" - she should have taken it and learned or researched the truth in it, instead of taking it as an insult, and leaving the faith! Even if they WERE rude to her, should someone would loose all faith just because of some people that acted mean to you?? You don't loose faith because someone says your not jewish! I'm sorry, it just shouldn't be that way! sad

sorry to tell you, nathan, but you are totally wrong. if your surroundings don't provide you, it's really hard to be the way you believed.
she had faith, but it was taken from her violently, when they told her that she wasn't jewish, and insulted her. i believe that it wasn't the first time that they insulted her.
it's really hard to keep her confidence in her faith when she is in this kind of distress ( internal distress , that is), so she turned to the easiest way, nevertheless, the dumbest, the way of running away...

Okay, this seems to be sparking a bit too much controversy, so before things get out of hand, I'd recommend going to something else... xp
What do you guys think can be done about so many people losing faith?

darkphoenix1247 Okay, this seems to be sparking a bit too much controversy, so before things get out of hand, I'd recommend going to something else... xp What do you guys think can be done about so many people losing faith? it's not about "leaving" the "faith" at all. that has nothing to do with it. there's a term, "off the derech", that fits infititly better. derech means "way", as in path (that's a different word, though"), or road. life can be described as a road, along which each fork and crossing is a choice and decision. and each one of those choices defines one's path a little more, until one dies, and one's path is complete. there are several mussar seforim (25...just because i have no idea how to translate mussar), such as derach hashem (literally, "the way of G-d) and meilos yesharim (sp) ("path of the just") which outline this "derech" and guide one along it. in popular usage, the term "derech" refers to the proper way of living, ie, frumkiet (10), and being shomer. so when one "strays off the derech", one is doing just that. straying, losing one's way. but one can still find the path again. some poeple are just plain lost, but think they aren't. other's are "on the derech", but don't have a sense of direction, no driving force. still other's aren't even aware of it. to them, no one fork is better than the other, and life is but a dream. couldn't resist
