::The Comeback::
Lying alone in a cold hospital bed...strangers wielding needles, talking in low voices and reading clipboards...waking up sweaty, frightened, tied down...excrutiatining pain in my hands and feet and that blasted tail...vomiting, crying out for help with no response...and that constant feeling of falling, falling...
Ivy woke with a start in her bedroom. What...where am I? she wondered, wiping the chillingly familiar cold sweat from her brow. Something didn't seem right here...actually, a LOT of things didn't feel right.
Ivy got up and looked at her wall calendar. Someone had written on November 29th Testing completed. Wait...November? "No, no...it's July!!" she told herself in surprise. And what did that mean, 'testing comlete???' Looking at her unnaturally thin arms peeking out from her nightshirt, she noticed several bruises and bandages on the insides of her arms. There was even some gauze wrapped around her left forearm. "I was...those weren't just dreams?"
I need to talk to someone, fast... decided Ivy as she headed to the bathroom. This is scary.

Emo! Emo! Emo!
"Aaugh!" cried Ivy as she fell, knocking her few books and pencil set from the shelf she had used to pull herself up. Her elbow twanged as she landed on it.
This was try number ten.
Crawling onto her bed, she grabbed her CD player and flung it at her wall. "Stupid tail! Stupid flippers! Stupid-" she shoved her face into the pillow and sobbed. "Stupid island."

Tommy slowly crutched his way down the vast line of duplexes. He had woken up a little before, had a nice bag of blood for "breakfast," and decided to make his way to the entertainment room. To hell with the labs. Who cares if they want to push the months ahead? I don't give a s**t if they really did put us all into a coma for months...it's not like we could do anything about it anyway. Goddamnit...I hate this ******** place.
He was pulled out of his mental loathing as his ears picked up the sounds of sobbing and crashing from a duplex. He quickly concentrated on the sound and located exactly where it was coming from. He frowned...something was very familiar about that duplex...he shook his head and decided to investigate.
Tommy crutched his way up to the door and knocked on it with a wing/hand. He honestly didn't know what to say...also, he wasn't sure if the person inside was feral or not. He did know that the voice was female...and he couldn't stand by and do nothing as a fellow islander suffered.

Ivy stopped her sobbing when she heard a knock on the door. Who was that?
"It's unlocked! Come on in!" She called to the unknown guest.

Tommy went through the process of reaching up with a foot to grasp the doorknob and twist it open. He hated doing that...but he just couldn't balance on one wing long enough to do it with his real 'hand.' He slowly pushed open the door with his wing, nervous...not knowing what he would find inside.
And there she was...a flash of memory hit Tommy like a ton of bricks. Could this be the same person he met so many months ago? He was...human then...and she looks almost the same....what the hell happened...?
"Um...sorry, ma'am...I don't mean to barge in like this...but I heard...a crash," he said slowly...he wanted to say he heard her sobbing...but decided against it, "Are you alright...?"

It took Ivy a moment to recognise that the person in her duplex looked like a giant bat. "Hey..." She sighed.
Oh crap! I must look like s**t. trying to smile at her guest, she gestured toward her now vacant bed for him to take a seat as she tried to crawled/hobbled to the nearest tissue box.
She noticed his awkward stance and felt empathy for him. He must have as much trouble as I do, having to move around with those wings. Trying not to stare, she blew her nose and straightened her things, all while not saying a word.

Tommy frowned at first, not quite sure what she wanted him to do...but then he mentally slapped himself as it dawned on him. Maybe she just wants someone to talk to...she seems to be having trouble walking...did she change recently? Poor girl... He nodded a few times and crutched himself in, using his fists to help him along. It looked rather odd since his extremely long fingers were splayed out to either side of him.
He slowly made his way to the bed and climbed up on it. Sure, he wasn't exactly comfortable in that position...but he didn't want to tell her that. All in all, when he wasn't walking around, the only really comfortable position for him was hanging upside down.
He didn't mind her glancing over his wings...they were all freaks here...one cannot go around a normal day without staring at one of the many abnormal sights. "Again...I'm sorry...I don't mean to intrude...my name's Tommy, by the way...Tommy Christian. But..." he trailed off as he surveyed the damage done right before he entered, "But are you alright?"

"Oh," replied Ivy with a dry chuckle, "I'm..." she looked down at the webbing between her elognated fingers. "Different."
She looked at him and shook herself. "Um, ah, my name is Ivy. I've been here for...too long." She gestured at her gigantic tail. "I woke up some time ago and I was like this." She wasn't sure whether to sit next to him, or stay standing, so she tried sitting on the floor and managed to find a somewhat comfortable position, half between squatting and laying down. Maybe he would talk to her.

Tommy "ah'd" as she mentioned her change. "Goddamn...I'm sorry to hear that...Ivy," he said while shaking his head. He knew how it was to be stuck in an awkward position...one of the main reasons he was counting down the days until he received his final injection. The dreams of flying got more and more vivid every day.
"But yeah...I hear ya," he said, trying to give her a comforting smile...but with his large fangs, that was very difficult. "I've been here since...what...July? But...I don't think I've seen you around much...and you sure don't look as if you've been here that long..."
He trailed off, hoping that she would fill in the blanks.

Ivy was surprised to hear that she had been on the island before him; his transformation looked much further along. Should I be thankful, she wondered, or worried?
"I've been here since the end of last May." sighed Ivy. "I...I've been in and out of laboratories, unconscious for the most part, since last fall. Lately I've been staying in my room, and not long ago this" she gestured again at her tail "happened."

Tommy frowned, wondering just what was wrong with this person in front of him. Unconscious for months...? He idly thought back to Victor and his odd changes...Ivy here, while at least symmetrical, looked like something went wrong with her serum. Fish tail...herbavore ears...otter-like hands...goddamn just what type of animals are in her? It's no wonder she's been unconscious for so long...God I hope it doesn't get so bad that they'll move her to the graveyard with nothing but "complications" under her name.
The bat-man whistled after she told him this, "Wow...that is a long time...but, what've you done for food? Sequestering yourself in your room day in and day out cannot be good for you."

"Well, when I run out of food in the fridge, I wa-" No, I can't do that anymore. she thought to herself. Throw that word out. "I go to the rec center and stock up."
Which was one of the reasons she'd lost so much wieght lately. Ivy was terrified of running into other islanders, so much so that she'd only made a few outings in the last few months...friendship seemed impossible when you couldn't even stand up straight.
She sighed. "What about you? Do you, um, know anyone on the island?"

"Hmm? Oh, oh yeah...heh, yeah I know a few people out there. And in all honesty...if you're worried about what they'd think of your current form, heh...don't be. I know quite a few people who are much worse off than you. And besides...if they can be friends with a blood sucking bat...I think you'd be fine." Tommy smiled, trying to reassure her of her obvious fears. He felt for Ivy...he really did. He knew what she was going through.
"But I'll tell you what...I've got a walker back in my duplex that I had to use for a little while...you think you'd have any use for it?"

With a walker I'd still look stupid, but if there really are people worse off than me... Ivy couldn't help but laugh at the image of herself hobbling aong on a walker like a grannie.
She smiled at Tommy, the first smile she'd made in a long time. It felt good. "Sure, why not? I'd like to give it a try if you'll let me."

"Yeah, sure...it wouldn't be a problem. I used it until I figured out how to walk like this..." He said, nodding a few times. Her smile was contagious, making him grin. "You want me to go get it now?"
