Jewel, that's awesome!! biggrin Love both the expressions in the pic xd I wonder what Rimmer would think if he saw this thread? I doubt he'd be saying "nobody's ever said I was charming before"! wink

Do you draw your pics with a computer tablet, then? smile I had one but it was really wobbly and cheap, so I'm forced to use a mouse...it would be cool to get a better one though!

Out of interest...what do you Rimmer fans think of Series VI? I really think Rimmer was made to seem nasty in this series, as opposed to the better glimpses you see of him in II and III...in series VI, I felt something was lost, and Rimmer's character was barely explored at all...but I know I'm usually in the minority when I say this! xd

I, er, uhm... haven't seen series VI. gonk It's so hard to get affordable DVDs over here, and I haven't gotten it from Netflix yet. But... I shall! On this I swear! *holds up a fist and strikes a dramatic pose*

xd

Anyway... I'm always most intrigued by the characters like Rimmer, but they never get much credit... I wonder, is it something strange about me, or the people who made them? It's always the fans that have to develop them more. Like Edwin in Baldur's Gate... nobody is ever very interested in the poor little Red Wizard, except as a mage who can fireball every enemy in sight. In Baldur's Gate II a fan finally made a romance module for him... and he was completely charming, but still in character. Le sigh. heart Well, charming in a "I care about you but I'm going to insult you every other sentence, and expect you to be able to retaliate in a suitable manner" way. xd

Ah, well.

Adorbable picture, Jewel. xd I wonder what Rimmer would do if he were confronted by all three of his "biggest fans." Nyehehe.... ninja

I bet Rimmer would be saying "Nobody's ever wanted to hug me before... and no one has certainly ever looked at me with stars in their eyes. ... I'm a bit scared." xd

By the way, Jewel, I just let Emmilyn into the guild. sweatdrop She requested yesterday and I assumed you hadn't seen the request.

Maybe another Rimmer fan to join the thread... ninja

4laugh Actually once I stepped back and looked at the second picture myself I persoanlly though his expression was adorable, lol! sweatdrop

Ah, Series VI Rimmer... yes, I must admit, I felt like he'd lost some of his character. crying But we still have the wonderful Series II at least!

Keldan, I've noticed that too! Sometimes I like it that way; that way, the fans can have their own little ideas about what a character is like, but sometimes, YES, I do wish for a bit more. And don't you just LOVE characters like that, lol! That's the way me and my best friend always speak to one another, the sort of "I-really-do-care-about-you-and-you're-my-best-friend-but-I'm-gonna-take-the-Michael-out-of-your-new-boyfriend-anyway" sort of relationship...

Or is that just me and MY best friend? sweatdrop

I think Rimmer would love having us as his groupies, lol! xd I watched Thanks for the Memory again last night... crying so sad! But funny. But sad!

Oh, Skipper? Just thought of an avatar that might be quite funny... you know that bit where he's dancing and then turns and does that little "snog-yourself" thing that EVERYONE has done at some point in their lives? (speaking of that move, I've a VERY funny story involving a class of 15 year olds, that move, and a very bewildered Religious Education teacher... twisted Lol!!!). And another one might be that bit where Lister says "I wanna triple fried egg chilli chutney sandwich", and Rimmer has that look of COMPLETE disgust on his face then says "Me too."

Oh... and when he's actually EATING the sandwich... "I feel like I'm having a baby!" xd

Keldan, that's fine with me! wink As long as the request thing is good, I've got no problems with you accepting requests. wink

Hehe. I especially love it with Edwin, though, because... I mean, for example, he says something like, "Do you have nothing better to do than bother me? Go play with your little dollies or something." (And you'd have to imagine a Transylvanian-weird-kind-of-unidentifiable accent there, too. xd I luff it). And the girl who wrote the scripts gave you the option to respond with something like, "I do NOT play with dolls. And while we're on the subject of dollies and other girly-type stuff, let's talk about those robes of yours. They're look like dresses!"

... except she does it much better than me when I'm trying to remember it. xd

I LOVE the sandwich scene. xd He's so adorable in that scene, too... all disheveled and dirty and not so unapproachable. whee heart

Hehe. Good. I figured I should tell you, though. I know I'd like to know if someone requested to join my guild and a mod accepted. 3nodding

In some ways I love it when they leave the "cusp" characters enigmatic, but in other ways I hate it. Because when it comes right down to it, you really wanna know new stuff abou them from the people who created them, and not just fans.

Definately. It's a same with a lot of characters in some of my favourite fandoms though... Rimmer, for one, then Sirius Black in Harry Potter and Legolas from Lord of the Rings... you just want to know more about them, don't you?

The Sandwich Scene (<--- Look! It's been Capitalised!!!) is probably one of my FAVOURITE Rimmer scenes EVER. He's just so sweet!!! 4laugh And I must admit; drunkeness suits him.

ninja

What?!

Love The Sandwich Scene! biggrin All of Thanks for the Memory is great ^_^ But that first bit when Rimmer's drunk has to be the best bit in the episode! biggrin Thanks for the suggestions for avatars - I love making them, so I'll see what I can do! 3nodding

I always root for the underdog, and for characters I can empathise with - you can just see how desperate Rimmer is for recognition, and to be loved or cared about by someone, anyone...I love the way he responds to offerings of friendship. And agreed - we always have series II! biggrin Series II and III are my fave, Rimmer-wise! I am SO glad they didn't include two of the series V deleted scenes that really make him seem nasty...

P.S. Jewel, do you have a LJ? smile I love making LJ friends ^_^

I can't wait to see them when you do! How DO you make them btw? Like, how do you get the images? They're excellent, whatever you do, lol! wink

Oh, what are those deleted scenes? We couldn't have dear Rimmsy seeming nasty!

No, I don't have a LJ, but I think I might get one for myself because it looks fun, lol! 3nodding I'll be sure to tell you if I do get one. wink

I have a program called PowerDVD which allows you to take screencaps from your DVDs ^_^ You might have it on your comp - I didn't know I did until I looked! Some versions don't have the screencap function on, though...it's a little button with a picture of a camera on it. smile

There's a deleted scene from "Holoship" where Rimmer calls himself a rather nasty name...I just don't like hearing him say that >_< And one from "Terrorform" where he orders Kryten to put on his old spacesuit and a Rimmer mask and go out to sacrifice himself to the self-loathing beast so they can escape...I'm so glad they left that out!

I generally just use my LJ for fandom-related obsessing biggrin I hardly ever write about my life in it! I find fandom-related entries more interesting to read and easier to comment on. ^_^

Oh, and welcome to the Rimmer thread, Emmilyn! smile

Ah, I don't have that program... but I don't have RD on DVD anyway. Once I do, I'll have to try it just using the screenshot button, lol.

Hmmm, and now my conscience is deliberating on whether it wants to KNOW what Rimmer called himself in that deleted scene... but that one from Terrorform doesn't sound nice; I'm glad they cut that out.

Lol! Yeah, I've got my Gaia journal for life stuff, so an LJ I'd probably just use for obsessing over my favourite characters, lol! sweatdrop Still not sure whether I'll get one...

Hehe. I use my LJ for quizzes and the occasional "oh, yeah, maybe I should post something actually useful in here" post. xd My last one, just last night, was about my realising that Heath Ledger has kinda disappeared from American pop culter... as well as that he really can't keep an Irish accent on his tongue for more than, at best, five seconds. xd

I also kinda wanna know what he called himself... but do I want to? eek

As to what he called himself...think the "it's my duty" line. wink He said it in reference to being mind-patched and losing his former personality, which he said "good riddance" to, calling him "useless" - I am so glad they left that out, I can't tell you!

Jewel, I know you'll love the RD DVDs! biggrin I'd love to meet up with some more RD fans someday...anyone live close enough to Bluewater shopping centre? xd The idea of having a RD marathon has always appealed to me!

New Rimmer question - what would you say was Rimmer's most tragic moment? I'd have quite a few contenders for that - the "I'm a little lamb" bit from Thanks for the Memory, the bit from Terrorform where they all admit they don't really like him...
