Well, I've gotta say that I've grown up with the manga and well, it's actually pretty simple that the manga would naturally win first; because without the Saiyuki manga we wouldn't have the Saiyuki anime!
Which stupidly enough, I didn't watch very much...but i did like the Saiyuki Urasai scenes! Those were quite funny.
But obviously, the manga hands down. Not to mention, we get to see the evolution of Minekura-sama's art with every tankoubon, compared to the anime which also evolved as well, but still...Three different character designs for a pilot show, a movie, two sequels and a prequel!
Actually I might to say four character designers with the movie, because that didn't look like Yuji Moriyama's work on Saiyuki Requiem...so, yeah.
Plus, some obviously have muvh better looks manga-wise than anime-wise. Like Nii, for example...he looks MUCHO hotter and much more sadistic in the manga than in the anime. You know he's got a role in there, just encombed in his little shadow, where he likes it...

i prefer the manga over the anime... but the anime has the series of when Sanzo, Hakkai, Goku, and Gojyo were in heaven (which is one of my fav parts) so i like the manga only a little bit better than the anime.

I haven't read the manga, I don't read manga as much as I watch anime. So thus I like the anime more.

I like them both, but I think the manga is better. I get the manga a lot faster than I do the anime, so it's a lot easier for me to follow the manga. ^^"

I have to say I prefer fer both since if it wasn't for me seeing the cover of a manga with Gojyo on it I would never have known about the series. My daughters friend told me like 2 weeks later her friend had the dvds and I watched them and was hooked from the first one with Gojyo and Goku arguing about a beer can !!!! I love the voice in Gensomaden but the ones they chose for Reload really blow !!! They made Hakkai sound so whiney and it just wasn't him but the mangas also have more story that the dvds don't so they both have plusses in my opinion but I will always like the voice of Gojyo done by Illich and I was so happy when they did Reuiem even though it was the last one. sad

manga heart because its more violent and has a lot of jokes(peverted thanxs to gojyou) and sarcasm and more comedy

I think the manga is better. I may be a little biased though seems how I have read almost every book out and I have not seen much of the anime.

Manga. No question.
Superior art. Story is more tight. Organized timeline. More attention to detail. And best of all...
It's still continuing (storyline wise). If you want more of Saiyuki, you'll not get it from the anime.

I like both the anime and the manga 3nodding I like the anime because it's in color and the characters are "alive" so to speak mrgreen And I like the manga cause I like to read and I mean its Saiyuki, I'm gonna like it either way lol (not much of a reason)

the great thing about saiyuki is that they actually did a good job with the anime. even the dub is better than most. so i would say that i like the saiyuki anime better than i like most. in that respect i like both of them.
however, nothing compares with the original. some of the plot discrepancies get to me, and i like the character development and art better in the manga.
i'm a little biased though. anime in general is starting to get to me lately (the medium, not the genre) and i've always been more of a manga person anyway. most of the complaints i have with this anime are the same one i have with others.
they'e both awesome, and i LOVE the voices, even in the dub.

tenshinokage i prefer the manga over the anime... but the anime has the series of when Sanzo, Hakkai, Goku, and Gojyo were in heaven (which is one of my fav parts) so i like the manga only a little bit better than the anime. so does the manga. it is it's own series, though, which i think makes it even better. it's called "saiyuki gaiden." i've seen parts of the anime where they do the gaiden parts, and it's just confusing. it seems to be just glanced over compared to the manga. there doesn't seem to be much care in it and i don't quite get how it interacts with the real story line in the anime. in the manga, it IS the story line.

I always prefer anime over manga. Manga's awesome, but I like anime better cause it moves, and there's sound and music and color. I do read a lot of manga though. I haven't read the Saiyuki manga yet.
