Lorelei blushed, startled at this public recognition of her new home. Standing, she stumbled over to Val, feet unsteady from the shock of being called forward (much as it is when given an unexpected award). She smiled, nervously.
Vanna fluttered around for a moment, excited as well, before she settled on her mother's hand to look more closely at the ocarina.
"I seem to be rather tied to music, hm?" Lorelei asked, using her free hand to brush a curl behind her ear.

"Indeed. Here... would you... play a few notes on this for me? It was my mothers. She was very musical."
Oqaia's eyes went wide at the mention of Valelldia's mother. She'd never met the woman who had been her dark-skinned sister's guiding force. Valelldia didn't speak on her much- and never volunteered much information about her own past. Oqaia was intrigued, and wondered... and watched... as she handed over her the ocarina on loan.

"I've never actually played one of these, myself... but Shamira played it once, in the marketplace."
Vanna fluttered to her mother's shoulder for the time being, letting the slight young woman take the golden instrument in her hands. Closing her eyes for a moment and humming a few of the notes Shamira had once played, she tested moving her fingers across the holes. After a short period of this testing, she brought the instrument to her lips and began to play as best she could. Vanna sung along, trying to fill the notes when they fell slightly.

The two sang along with each other- voice upon voice, love upon love. Vanna filled int he notes where her mother faltered, and in that moment of simple, pure song... a golden light bathed the two, and all around could SEE the music in the air- saw it take shape and float around their heads. Vanna... took flight, as if to soar with the music- but suddenly... fell to the earth, as if struck down by an invisible arrow. Before any could react, however, the light eclipsed the tiny bird. When the blinding flash subsided, all could see that what remained- was a small girl with skin the shade of the blessed fae, purple wings, and a vivid, almost brilliant third eye of gold. The music... would go on forever for this small one.

Irina took a mental note of the things Val had told her. A twisting road, a strange path...Irina could only imagine what these predictions meant. She took them to heart though, and stored the information deep within her memory. She wondered what kind of journey she was about to embark on...
Holding out her hand, her eyes went wide as the purple stone frog statue was placed in front of her, greeting her simply before it became immovable once again. "Well, hello to you too, Mr. Toad," she greeted it, smiling back up at Val.
"Thank you. I'll keep him safe and sound. He seems to be a strange, yet helpful creature." She paused, remembering her words. "Also...I do appreciate you allowing me to become a part of your family," she said thankfully, nodding to Val.
Stepping back into the circle, she watched as the others received their gifts.
Her face had a look of shock as the woman played the ocarnia, and a child appeared in front of them, as if she was meant to be there the entire time. Was this how the Fortunettes were born? Amazing!
EDIT: ((And a big CONGRATS Ely! She's beautiful!))

The final note came to a wavering, slow halt, and Lorelei slowly lowered the ocarina from her lips, eyes widening. Wordlessly, she handed the ocarina back to Val and dropped to her knees by the little girl, holding out her arms to her.
Vanna laughed and hummed, purple feather "wings" fluttering slightly behind her. She crawled towards her mother, giggling. Lorelei gathered her up in a coddling hug, gently stroking Vanna's soft, oddly colored hair.
"So beautiful..." she cooed, smiling happily. Vanna laughed and nodded, throwing her small arms around Lorelei's neck.
The red-head stood up, cradling the small child in her arms. "Thank you, Val..." she murmured, smiling with tears in her eyes. "Thank you, so much!"

"Mom... is she?" Pierre whispered, horrified that the girl had transformed, and looking up at his mother as well as he could under her shawl. Emelyn nodded, and said after a gentle 'shhhh',
"Yes, sweetness. It's just a natural way that the Fortunettes grow- under the light of the meij. You have always grown that way, as well."

The seriousness on both Annjette and Voltaire's faces melted away as Vanna grew. They were both happy for Lor and Vanna. Especially Annjette as now it would be easier to play!
Annjette squeaked out, "Yay Vanna~!"
Voltaire laughed lightly and nodded, "Yes, 'Jette, yay Vanna and yay for Lor."
Earlier brooding feelings were gone from both of them it seems. They had witnessed growings and gift givings. The good cheer that surrounded all seemed to have melted the ice of ill feelings from the both of them.

Kale's eyes grew wide. Another transformation! And this time, a baby! He looked to his mother, eyes curious and sparkling.
Marissa jumped at the sudden growth, but a smile split her face. "Welcome, Vanna!" She cried out joyfully.

"There's really no need to thank me," Valelldia said- but she was smiling, and it was obvious that this was the moment the gypsy lived for.
"And now- please, help yourself to the firecandies and herb-stuffed mushrooms in the baskets near the fire," she said, indicating the treats where they lay, "And we will begin the wagon-ordering ceremony. ...For those of you who are new to us, this is a procedure in which we decide who will follow whom in our procession across this land. It is quite important, as our children possess very strong magical qualities- and, stacked upon each other in the wrong balance, day after day, there would be sheer havoc among us. I know our Marissa has already experienced the power of the wagon ordering, and how it can affect our children." She gave a nod to the woman, remembering the fiasco with the Firos Pendant, before continuing.
"For example- no wagon of fire and wood should be placed together, lest the elements consume themselves and invite chaos to our days. Neither should there be too much earth on any one end of the wagon- or all our powers will seem sluggish, slow, and difficult to manage. We will all guide our newcomers through this- and they'll discover what a joyous occasion it is, after all."

Right now, the balance of strongest power lies from Daggerheld to Clair d' Lune. Wagon Order::1.WhistleStick- Fire2. Blessed Change- Earth3. Spotted Sage 4. Daggerheld- Earth5. PhoenixSong- Fire6. Narkri Chooma- Earth7. Varekai- Air/ Earth8. Mountain Air- Earth9. Clair d' Lune- Air/ Darkness10. Rusting Canvas- Earth11. Weathered Melody- Air12. The Singing Bird- Wood13. The Mudrunner- Earth14. A Light in the Dark- Light15. Daityrvyn- Wood16. Rhythmique- WaterThe balance of strongest power means just that- the people in that end of the wagon train will have more magical things that influence them, be better to cast spells, etc, once their children have the ability. However, they also have the most danger, and their kids are the most likely to grow under the influence of the dark meij as well as the white. It's not "better" to be in one than the other. It just affects how I plot. ^__^ Who we need to fit into the order: Forest Spirit- WoodRavenwood- DelusionLeatherbound & Ivy-Twined- SoundWind Wheels - Fire-----+----- Any suggestions? ^_^ Oldbies, feel free to jump in. Remember, there's no wrong answer. And yes, IC, please.

Gwynna had sat quietly throughout most of the ceremony, holding a sleeping Nusa on her lap. Nusa purred slightly, curled up with her tail over her nose.
The gypsy woman finally spoke up. "Perhaps put Forest Spirit just behind me. Two wood-elements together shouldn't be unstable." She stroked Nusa's soft fur with her ringed hand.

Emelyn nodded at Gwynna's suggestion. She knew that near the head of the wagon train, where she was, the earth elements were abundant- and it would unlikely do the polar end harm to have its own collection of stable wood elements to balance them out.
"What I'm concerned about is the fire," she said, biting her lip. "Our other fire wagons have been muted by earth around them- but the only other earth 'sandwich' we have is at Nakri Chooma and Varekai... but Varekai also has air, which would feed the flame. And everywhere else is dotted with wood. ...My best thought is perhaps put Wind Wheels at the back, to balance out WhistleStick at the front... but wouldn't the water before it stifle the flame? We need someone to put between Rhythmique and Wind Wheels."

"Do any elements oppose Delusion?" Irina asked, wondering where her wagon would be placed. "I really don't know much about the balance of the caravan..."
She stopped and looked around. "I suppose I could really go anywhere," she offered.

"Well," Emelyn thought, thinking back to the early days of the wagon ordering, and trying to fit in those strange, almost wayward elements, "sometimes strange elements... need to stay away from any that might taint them. Delusion would probably be better near something grounded- and away from the only darkness element we have."
