Ironic, we had a discussion about this in IR class ... in Japan, I think you actually can have same sex marriage.
I'm fairly sure it isn't, because there is a lot of discrimination against gays in Japan, not because they're gay per se but because they're unmarried (if they were married it wouldn't be a problem even if they were having crazy gay monkey sex seven times a day). Being unmarried in Japan is a serious disadvantage, it can affect things like whether you get a job or not, and what leads me to believe that gay marriage is not legal is that because of this gay men and gay women would get married just to
be married.
What really pisses me off is that the goverment thinks they can restrict who I marry. Marriage is a union in the eyes of the two lovers' religion. Gays
should be allowed to be wed by the Church if they so desire; however I just don't understand the 'gay Christian'; the very concept makes my brain hurt. Who would pray to a 'God' that had forsaken them? Not I--but that's beside the point. Personally I'd be fine with a civil union and a marriage of the mind and soul, except that would be tolerating unjust laws.
