Charlie raised an eyebrow, sitting beside her and holding out his paw. He was rather curious to know what kinda of surprise could be in the hard shell. "If you need help, I could try and open it," he said when he saw her struggling a little to pry it open. He'd had to pry open clams before, it couldn't be that much different.

Tangel wasn't one to give up, but before she could shake her head as an answer, there came a small snap from between the two shells and a pearl landed softly into his paw. She gave a joyouse smile at that and giggled.
"Usually, the bigger the Oyster, the bigger the pearl..." she nodded then set to work on opening the other for herself. She had left the already open oyster beside him to taste test when he wanted.

Charlie turned the pearl over in his hand. "I've heard of these before... Some of the giant clam have big ones in them, but I don't have the heart to force them open," he said looking at the purplish gleam.
"Do you like pearls, Tangel?"

Tangel giggled, opening her own oyster and nibbled at the meat inside of the two shells. "I do!" she smiled, her drying tail whipping about behind her. "Pearls are very pretty... Delorian said each little pearl is special, but he... kind of hesitated when I asked him why..."
She nibbled some more from her oyster again, halfway nuzzling against Charlie in the process. "What about you? Do you like them?"

Charlie tried the oyster, finding that it wasn't as salty as a clam, but not bad. "It tastes good. And, yeah, I guess. They're really pretty," he said, then looked down at her with a smile. "Not as pretty as you are, though," he added, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and handing her the freshwater pearl. He made up his mind to get her something, something with pearls and just as pretty as she was. Reesh would know, she was good with pretty stuff.

She purred and nuzzled against his fur. She was so content right now that she couldn't even describe it! Her tail continued to swish back and forth behind them as she finished her own oyster and set the shells to the side, taking the pearl back and looking at it closer. It was that soft white color that most pearls had and she smiled at it, soon wrapping her paw around it and holding it to her chest as she leaned against Charlie's chest.
"What do you like to do in your free time?" she asked, trying to make conversation. "Other than be alone, of course?"

"Read sometimes. I like to think about things, too. I used to try and draw, but I realized I wasn't very good. That's Sabine. She says I may not be able to draw like her, but I swim better than anyone. I do that a lot," Charlie answered, rubbing her arm absently.
"On the side farthest from Gambino, there's a long coral reef. I go swimming there, to look at all the different creatures. Sometimes, I bring a couple back. In my room, Reesh put a large aquarium that takes the place of one of the walls. So I bring one back every so often and put it in there," he explained. "Maybe I can show you the reef sometime. You can see the big clams."

Tangel giggled. "There's a reef along the islands I live at too. Dazzoller and I play hide and seek there with some of the other swim-able pets. Dazzoller's good at it though because she blends in with all the colors and such."
She purred and nuzzled against his chest some. "But I'd love to see your reef sometime! That ought to be fun! And I'm more than sure that you'd be welcome to our island at any time." she added with a soft smile up at him.

"And I wouldn't mind seeing yours. Reesh is keeping me in town for a little while, maybe when we go back you and... your human," Charlie replied, smiling down at her and pausing when he couldn't remember if Tangel had mentioned her human's name, "can come with for a couple of days. Reesh's house reminds me of a hotel. There's plenty of room."
He moved a little bit, so that they were both more comfortable and tilted his head back a little, closing his eyes and letting the sun wash over his face.

Tangel giggled and shook her head. "Kylin is her name..." she seemed to answer and snuggled against him some as she continued. "...And she says she just got home from being away for a long time. She has no desire to leave the islands so soon... But I'm more than sure she'd send another of her pets in her place." she finished with a nod then looked up to him with questioning eyes. "If that's alright with you and your human, that is...?"

Charlie nodded his head and absently rubbed her arm. "Reesh is what you might call a solitary person. She doesn't like company much," he said but quickly continued so that she wouldn't get the wrong idea, "But she's very welcoming to our friends. So I don't think it'll be any trouble at all. She should be going back in a couple of days. Would you like to come back with me?"
He felt a little bad for saying friend, for it didn't feel like the right adject to put to Tangel. But no other words had come, so he let it go.

Tangel giggled and purred softly, blushing again after what seemed to be an hour of her not doing so. "I'd love to!" she smiled. "I'd just have to let Ky know at some point. She's very easy going, so she might let me come alone, if you and your human stop by first. That way your human won't have to worry about company?"
She was just throwing ideas out the now. She knew Ky well enough by this point to know that she'd be picked on almost the entire trip and Tangel wouldn't stand for it.

Charlie nodded again, smiling at the way she purred. "That should be fine. Again, Reesh doesn't mind it if it's our friends. She doesn't like having big parties or tourists on her island. That's why she paid for it to be a private island," he explained, looking down at her. He traced a design on her shoulder.
"Tangel... You're... You're really pretty, you know? The perfect mixture of colors and swirls. And..." he reached up and touched the star on her forehead. "A single star, right above your beautiful eyes. So pretty," he kinda trailed off there, smiling lightly. He'd never been like this before. He'd never felt the need nor want to compliment anyone like he spoke to Tangel.

Tangel blushed the brightest she had the entire evening. She had a warm smile and she too, began tracing the patterns on his chest and giggled when she reached up to touch each of the circles atop his head. With another purr, she snuggled against him - again not knowing how to respond. Instead of words, she sighed and looked out over the water, only to notice the sun setting slowly over the evening.
Her ears gave a soft droop, and she hoped he wouldn't notice. She didn't want to go home just yet, and if she came home twitterpated, everyone would understand her late return....

Charlie held her closer and looked down as her ears drooped. "Tangel? What's wrong?" he asked, rubbing her shoulder a little. He remembered this as a comforting gesture and was glad to use it one her if it really did make her feel better. He had yet to notice how late it was, so he didn't unerstand why her ears would droop as if she were sad.
