I don't really have a lot of people in my life to ask my pregnancy questions, so ya'll are who I'll ask.
When do cravings usually start in a pregnancy? From the beginning or in the middle?? Just curious.

They're usually associated with first trimester. 3nodding
But I still get them and for weird things because I have no idea what the items have in them that are lacking. They're usually for foods that contain what you're lacking in your diet or what baby needs more of so go with them. Now if you're craving weird things like chalk, dirt, soap...that's Pica and you should talk to a doctor about it.

My biggest craving during pregnancy was for salty foods, especially Potstickers, which I couldn't get enough of! I had aversions to tomatoes and broccoli during pregnancy, but fortunately after giving birth, I could eat them again without a problem. My oddest craving was one time for the SWEETEST richest thing I could find, which was Chocolate Lasagna from Olive Garden, which is so rich and so sweet, hubby was downing the milk as he shared it with me, and eventually he had to stop because it was too sweet, but I just kept eating it and eating it, without the milk because I NEEDED the sweet!

Pica is the actual condition where you crave the strange things you shouldn't eat due to severe mineral deficiencies I believe. If you had it, you'd be craving really weird things like dirt, wood shavings, soap, anything that isn't normally considered edible and might not be a great idea to try.
Here, I'll post a blurb from "What to Expect when you're expecting" about pica.
Some women find themselves craving, even eating, such peculiar substances as clay, ashes, and laundry starch. Since this habit, known as pica, can be dangerous and may be a sign of nutritional deficiency, particularly of iron, it should be reported to your practitioner.
It's not anything alarming, just something you should bring up right away if you're experiencing it so they can figure out what you're low on.

I had pica, it's nothing serious. It happens in non-Caucasian women more. I craved Ivory bar soap. I never ate it, but I couldn't help but want to eat it. Most of the dirt cravings usually tie into vitamin defencies.

The weirdest craving I've had so far is chocolate nachos. Not really weird when I explain...Taco Bueno (and Mayo) have these cinamon chips, I wanted those with hot fudge on them.
Though normally I just crave regular nachos. And milk....I can go through 3-5 gallons in a week. eek

I make my own queso here at home with a block of Velveeta and a can (sometimes two) of Rotel...that lasts me from either 2 days to most of the week, depending on how bad the craving is at the time. wink

Sailor Papillon I couldn't stand the smell of red meat... I also had the strange craving for paper x.o not food...but wierd I haven't been able to handle red meat at all for the last month of so and on. It just makes me ill. I'm great with fowl though. Thus far, my weird craving has been pepperoni/pineapple pizza with applesauce. Oh! And sour cream and onion chips. All in the same meal.

OKay let's start off by saying I hate all sea food. I think it is gross and get sick at the thought of it.
During my pregnancy I craved fish and crab and lobster.

I'm craving icecream and/or popsicles right now so bad I'm sending the hubby to the store for them! gonk An orange creamsicle would go down so well right now...
I used to crave salty things, like olives, pickles and dill pickle or salt and vinegar chips. That was the first trimester and some. After that, I didn't really crave anything, but I was more hungry more often. Now, I'm just snacky, not really hungry, but craving icecream.

The only thing I have been craving is Ice, like crushed ice. But family and doctors say I'm craving Ice cause I really want meat. But I also get the snacky feeling to, its weird
