So this was the head honcho of the island. Kaveri narrowed her silver eyes with disgust -- if she weren't so nervewracked, she would have given him a piece of her mind then and there. She was expecting something like this to happen sooner or later, she was right there at the scene of the crime!

But now, she wanted to feebly attempt clearing her name with the man so she didn't wind up in a cage or worse. She bit her lip in thought, then took a deep breath. "Alright, but I'm not gonna guarantee any sense comin' out of it," she warned, her voice lowering.

"I'm not sure how to begin this," she whimpered. She had hoped Moreau didn't think she was the one responsible. "It wasn't me. My last memory was in my duplex taking a shower... and then something happened, I don't know, and I was laying there passed out... " Her expression looked worried.

"Please, please hear me out," she cried, starting to go into hysterics, "The spiky-haired woman held my hand when I came to. I saw... I saw the body shortly after that, it was laying there, there was blood all over, and..." The thought made her choke and almost gag as her voice lowered to a horrified whisper. "There were bite marks."

She half-considered suggesting that Moreau check the cameras. In the end, she did. "You've got cameras rigged all over, don't you? Maybe there's... there's something in the video log," Kaveri hiccuped, "Something showing who did this. It wasn't me..."

Please, please believe me.

Moreau knew that Ms. Porter was becomming a vulture. He knew it wouldn't be in her instincts. He decided though that the best course of action, would be to make sure she knew to figure out who did it.

"The cameras aren't your concern. I came to you for answers." Moreau cleared his throat. "If you weren't responsible, I want to know who was."

He paused for a moment, "Or I'll be forced to hold you responsible..."

"I don't know who did it," she sobbed, looking away for a moment to think. She turned back to the intercom, inhaling deeply and puffing out her chest. "I was unconscious the entire time. I woke up next to the body, but unlike her I was unharmed... it makes no ******** sense."

"Oh, I... I apologize for the swearing," Kaveri said meekly - she didn't want to get on this dude's bad side any further due to this whole mess. She figured that transforming into a... whatever it is she's transforming into was bad enough. But Moreau was demanding answers, and answers that she didn't know.

She paused, looking from side to side before coming to a conclusion. "I'll figure something out just to prove it wasn't me. I'll find the guy who killed her." Kaveri couldn't believe that she had practically just agreed to help the man she pegged as a dire enemy, but she was also helping herself, to an extent. "I'll be going out again soon to check the spot where the body was and look for any clues in the area. There was this... thing that fell off of her when your dudes went and picked her up," she mentioned. "I want to see what that thing was..."

This was her mystery, not just Moreau's. She had to solve it, if only so she could rest easy knowing that she wasn't the one responsible... murder simply was too big a crime for a small-time pothead and building squatter. Murder was not one way to bring down The Man and self-preservation came first. Kaveri wasn't that stupid, after all... and let's not mention the vulture instincts that she was still unaware of - nevermind she was still unaware of the fact she was turning into a vulture.

"Then what are you waiting for! If you need flashlights go see the woman in the cafeteria." Moreau was very snappy about the entire situation. Moreau flipped the radio closed and headed back to the doctors. "What's her status?"

One of the docs answered. "She's still in surgery, sir. She'll be in here for a while. To be honest, we can't say right now. Her injuries are extensive."

Kaveri jumped as Moreau snapped at her, shuffling back a few steps. "I... I..." Before she could respond, he had turned the radio off. She thought it was too dark to conduct a proper search, and she was hoping to round up a small search party to aid her in finding the place where the body was again. Her sense of smell was not nearly as refined as, say, Pyroth's...

She clamored further back, wondering what the hell she should do. She was afraid that if she postponed it any longer, she'd be in deep trouble. She had to find someone who'd be willing to go out looking with her... and fast.

Moreau stood around watching as the hours ticked by. Moreau paced back and forth in the room. Every once in a while he would look over at the table and at Aubrey. Time seemed to pass slower by the minute.

Moreau's face showed concern as he walked over to the wall and hit it hard at one point. Perhaps pretending not to have hurt himself or maybe he was just too distraut to care.

"What have I done..." he said softly.

Many, many hours later, Aubrey was finally wheeled out of surgery, covered in sticthes, bandages, and full of tubes.

The lead surgeon went and found Moreau, looking grim. "She's stabalized, sir, he said softly, "but she isn't out of the woods yet. We'll know more if she makes it through the night."

"What can you tell me?" Moreau asked dourly.
PostPosted: Sun May 07, 2006 1:25 am

"Well, sir, not much. Being how bad her damages were, we wanted to stabalize her quickly as we could, which means we have to flush her out, which would get rid of most of the forensic evidence. What we do know is that she had some very deep incisions in her abdomen that probably started here," the doctor pointed to his left side, right under the ribs," and ending about here, "then the doctor moved down and over, ending at his right hip. "We know it was a series of swift gashes, probably caused by sharp predatory claws or a large hunting knife." He puased again, his frown creasing more across his face.

"We of course, aren't familiar with the dentition of the other subjects, so we can't say for sure it wasn't teeth or horns. Normally we would rule these out, but as of now we can hardly recognize it anything we've ever seen. She had massive internal injuries. Nothing individually vital, but the damange to her abdomen combined with the loss of blood is devastating."

He swallowed, not likely having to be the doctor telling him this.

"also... nearly human bite marks were found on the back of her neck, and on her shoulder."

Moreau's mind dwelled on the bite marks for a moment. A bit of his anger slipping back. But the litteral concern for Aubrey was the primary thing on his mind at the moment. He'd investigate more into that later.

"With your help she'll make it though Doctor." The statement almost sounded more like a question. But... it wasn't.

The doctor swallowed. Was that supsosed to be a encouragement? It sounded more like a command. "Yes sir?"

"Excellent. I'll be right here watching Doctor." Moreau smirked a bit. Good, he needed to feel in control again. He was trying very hard to regain his composure. He wanted his Aubrey back.

Moreau hated nothing more than when something felt completely out of his control. But he felt... mostly... confident that these Doctors would do everything they could for Aubrey.

If they didn't, he might need to hurry construction on those new duplexes...

"No you fool, they could be clues to all this." Moreau's voice was bitter and biting. "Have them cleaned up... carefully... by hand."

He walked over to Aubrey, his natural instinct was to cradle her. Every moment with her felt like it was flashing through his mind. His mind drifted back to their first meeting in high school. Their first night on the island together. The good and bad didn't seem to matter.

Moreau was going to look more into this, he would find his solution, and when he found out who did it he'd make them pay...
