Grondax

PostPosted: Fri Jun 23, 2006 5:03 pm

Grondax was already hard at work as morning came upon the lost district. He walked down the almost empty street with a small boy in tow. *It isn’t hard to figure why people conduct business at night. This scene would depress anyone.* Grondax thought as he surveyed the dilapidated ruins of the once thriving section of town. Despite that sentiment it was always better to conduct business when no one expected it of you.

He had met with a Harold this morning in Rumwell, though he expected that the name was fake. Grondax had convinced the man that he had found a charitable orphanage to take in his young boy. So early in the morning he had picked up the energetic young blond about the age of ten. The father said that he could rest easy knowing that his child could grow up safely and healthily. Grondax knew, however, that the child would be forgotten within a week. This was disposal and it only cost Harold a loaf of bread. Grondax even let him keep his faith that his son would be well cared for.

“Isn’t my orphanage back in Rumwell mister?” The boy looked so innocent as he looked up. “We need to make sure that you will be safe. You are a very important person. I’ll take care of you until we reach the good doctor. Don’t worry.” Words like important and safe seemed almost treasured possessions of the boys as he beamed and continued walking without another word. They were true enough Grondax thought to himself.

Near the northern edge of the Lost District they passed a trio of burly looking men, all with full beards and work trousers, who fell in step next to them. They were the Glockshen brothers, a trio of mountain raised chaps who would do anything for a good meaty meal. “What’s the job today Grundy.” The largest of the men asked putting his hand on Grondax’s shoulder.

“Nothing much Hans, I just need you to make sure I’m not followed until we meet up with the good doctor. Then you will have your usual package to deliver to The Pinch.”

“Harh,” bellowed Hans as he looked down at the boy, “The good doctor? Whatevah you say boss. Guess tat depends on yer definition of good.” Grondax stopped and laughed uncharacteristically at the joke Hans had not even realized he had made. “Just make sure Hans.”

At that the three men disappeared from sight to watch his back as Grondax approached his usual spot in the warehouse district.

"L-Let's get out of here first. I think someone's seen us." However, when she turned to point at the direction from where the voice had come, she saw that it was not a Peace Enforcement officer, but a civillian.

Feyd never even noticed the melting ice, he was to busy staring, first as a strange looking boy topped the roof’s ridge, a girl in his arms, then as he leapt up to perch on the chimney. Feyd quickly ruled out the possibility of it being the theater’s crew practicing the newest stunts as he failed to recognize either of them.

Still standing half in half out of the hatch Feyd ran a hand through his bed tousled hair, eyeing the unusual pair. He didn’t quite feel inclined to leave the safety of the ladder and hatch to venture out, not just yet anyway. Despite the distance between them he seemed to gather there was something wrong with the two at chimney, perhaps he heard something in their voices or saw it in their posture, or perhaps he couldn’t imagine any other explanation for someone to be one the theater roof unless something was wrong. Either way he called out to the two, voice void of the wariness that most Waynander’s used when addressing strangers.

“Are you alright there?”

Dr. Severin Oddssen had arrived at the Warehouses a little before Grondax came with the child. Hearing footsteps, wary of whether or not it was the trader, Severin peeked his head out from the rusted door to his own personal warehouse before he emerged entirely, hastily wiping the blood from his hands upon seeing the child. "Grondax," he greeted, in a voice just loud enough to be heard.

The 'Good' Doctor needn't be worried about this man knowing his secret, because he was sure that he did. It was part of their agreement that no words would be spoken of it, to anyone. As long as Oddssen kept up his end of the deal, he was sure that Grondax would abide by his.

"I see you've brought another," The Doctor observed, his blue-gray eyes twinkling behind the spectacles he had put on so he could see while he worked.

"I see you've brought another," The Doctor observed, his blue-gray eyes twinkling behind the spectacles he had put on so he could see while he worked.

Grondax noticed a man duck out from under the door of the warehouse wearing spectacles that seemed to glint with malice at the sight of the child. He knew him as Severin, a business partner trying to get by in this harsh world and nothing more.

He bowed his head slightly. "Severin here will be taking care of you for me." Grondax said to the child that had now clung to his leg with a small hand, "You need not worry. He is a doctor, and you know how helpful doctors are. Right?"

"I s'pose so..." mumbled the small boy seemingly unconvinced that this imposing figure brought good tidings.

Grondax gave the child a small nudge towards the man hunched against the door. "I'll leave you to your work then Severin. Any packages going out today?"

Time had took its toll on the youngest Chou sister as she rubbed her temples and sat surrounded by an array of colors. She had surely made quite a mess for one simple piece of artwork, and the artwork itself was probably the only thing that was beautiful in the house, besides the practice performances done by her sister.

With the tips of her fingers, and with her gentle touch, she carefully removed the piece from the work area, and left it in the farthest corner from the door, left to be untouched until the time was right.

"I probably caused much trouble for Hikari..." she murmured, ignoring the unusual mural she left behind on the floor. Alternating her gaze from the door to the mess, she placed a hand on the doorknob, and twisted it slightly until she heard the soft 'click', signaling that she could now pass. She walked out and searched for Hikari instead. "The place needed more color anyway" she thought. She confirmed it as her excuse...in case Hikari decided to yell at her for her actions.

The Doctors eyes swept from Grondax's face and lingered on that of the young boy's. He may be a madman to some, but killing a young child seemed a little out of his league. Being a bit more bold than usual, he voiced his opinion on the matter. "Grondax, ah... Perhaps it would have been easier if you had.." He paused, struggling for a word that didn't scream 'kill' to the child.

He assumed the boy could not read, nor write, so he spelled it out in a steadied, meticulous voice,
"K-I-L-L-E-D the young child before he arrived. I am not so confident I wish to do so, myself." Severin pursed his lips thoughtfully, hoping it wasn't out of line to say such a thing. "He seems rather healthy, anyways. As well as one can get in these hard pressed times."

Adlei stiffened in Elliot's arms. From this distance, she could not make out the face of the man, whether his concern was sincere or not. However, as she was about to signal for her Actor to take them elsewhere, she noticed the line of water running down Elliot's face. The water ran like ice melting rather than sweat and she saw the consciousness in his eyes sinking away.

She would have to take a chance. "Let's go to him, Elliot," she whispered, and he obeyed. Leaping from the chimney, he sprinted awkwardly across the rooftop and deposited the girl near the lip of the hatch. He then collapsed into her arms; she held him tightly, making certain he wouldn't slip down the roof again.

Biting her lip, she dug a silver brooch from her pocket and offered it to the man who had appeared. Jewels were set into its frame, the design marked it as an object from a century before, an antique.

"Look, it's worth more than you'll get from the Peace Enforcement units," she spoke quickly, noting the limpness of Elliot's body. "Take it to Kensington, and you might get a loaf of bread and some apples for it. All we ask is that you hide us and keep quiet until nightfall. We'll be gone and cause you trouble no more."

She composed herself and repressed all the questions that were burning just inside her mouth. She wasn't a small child anymore, and couldn't act like one. "I'm here for my 'appointment.'" She wasn't entirely sure what to say. They had demanded her here after all.

"Miss Easter Grey...yes, yes... We spoke to him this morning. Your Persona, I mean. We've updated him on the situation here, and he seems quite adamant on helping you. The chap was disturbed to hear how bad things had gotten."

"Now then..." Igor paused, staring the girl intently in the eye. "I'm certain you don't know about him, although you have...well... You have actually existed as him in some of your dreams, I'm sure. You may not remember, though.

"We are going to call the fellow here. He is the 'you' who exists on the Other Side. And he will make your desires come true. We just need your agreement, please."

Retrieving a quill from a stand beside his sofa, he offered the document and the pen to the girl. "If you sign the contract, we shall bring the god known as Bishamonten into this world. He will be nothing more than a mere infant to start with, quite troublesome for a girl your age, probably. But if you take care of him, he will grow quite quickly, and he will gain powers beyond your human imagination. He will have the power to feed you, protect you, and support you in this life.

"However, we require your consent."

The small child now standing between the two men looked about at them obviously confused as to what was going on. Grondax was worried that something could happen if the child pieced together what was transpiring, and decided to act before his emotions could stop him.

"How rude of me my dear Severin. You are right. I should have fed the child before handing him off to you." Grondax fumbled around in his bag for a small vial of three green tablets. While working inside his bag he took one of them out and tore off a hunk of the bread he had just recieved. "Here you go little one. We need you big and strong."

The child understood the language of food just fine and knew not to hesitate when he could get a free meal. He quickly reached out to take the hunk of bread. "That's a good boy, here you go" Grondax smiled as he slipped the tablet into the bread.

The child quickly devoured the bread not even noticing the tablet inside. "There you go Severin. Let the child take a nap and you should find no trouble. I apologize, but we all have to work with what we've got. If it makes you feel better imagine that you are saving the child from the life that we are forced to live every day. We've let him keep his innocence."

The child walked slowly forward and slumped against the side of the warehouse.

"We all need to get by Severin. We weren't the ones who abandoned him to this fate."Grondax remarked pointing to the slumped child. "I heard enforcement was rather agitated this morning. Maybe something else will come along. Maybe not. I'll let you know."

Grondax heaved a sigh. "So, what do you have for me today?"

The woman was finally in Kensington District, standing there she smiled widely and took a deep breath in and out from her mouth. Watching the people move around from one shop to another...trying to find the cheapest place to buy stuff was one of the great things to see as the woman thought...though she knew everything was expensive here...but she had to get supplies for herself and also to thurst her thurst of item seeking. But first as she thought to herself, she needed to go to the usual place and buy supplies...hopefully the old man had stuff left.

Ten minutes later she finally reached the old man's shop, well....not really a shop....more like a area that someone would just set up for the day. As she approached the man, who was sitting there minding his own business (more like sleeping) she looked quickly to see what the man had and then stood infront of him and spoke cheerfully to the old man with a smile "Good Morning Gramps!"

the old man snorted and open one eye and smiled at her and spoke "Emi! It is nice to see you with your cheerful smile today, what brings you to my shop this time?"

Emi nodded her head and spoke "I need supplies, the usual stuff I get"She spoke as she placed both hands...more like fist on her waist. The old man nodded and slowly got up and walked over to one area while grabbing a bag of some sorts and adding the items she ususally got that would last Emi a week and a half, it took him awhile as Emi thought, but finally returned and handed it to her and spoke "Emi, that will be 900"

Emi paused and blinked at the man a couple of times and made a squeak like noise as she spoke "EHHH!!! You charged me 700 last time! and the last times before that!!! What the heck old man! The old man looked at her and sighed "well...I haven't gotten any busi-" the old man stopped talking as he watched Emi return the bag to him, smiled and turned around. She quickly cleared her voice and spoke loudly to get attention to the people around her "Attention!"

she then waitied for the people to stop talking and look at her

"I swore I saw him around here..." One of two thugs said to the other. He scratched at one of the scars on his face. "...You were just seein' things! I didn' see no guy in red!...Less jus' go pick on some o' the kiddie gangs..."

Nekura withheld the urge to sigh as he remained in hiding. He was clinging carefully to the support beams of one large stall. He was hidden in the dark, and out of the general view of most everyone that would pass.

He saw these men coming with nasty bone knives and promptly hid himself, however it sounded as if one of them had caught sight of him briefly.

Much to his relief however, they had left and he slowly climbed down from the stall and made his way back out into the alleyways that passed to the edge of the Entrance zone of Wynander. It didn't take him long however to pass into the warehouse district where he began seeing far more life.

Much to Nekura's dismay, it was life that he did not want to be around, ruffians, thugs, thieves, and all of them armed with a variety of weapons. He frowned, hiding and moving stealthily. He could tell at just a glance he would not hold up in a fight against them.

The doctor nodded in response to what his partner said, "Yes, yes, I do understand. I'm not too fond of harming children, saving them or not." He said hastily, trying to make it seem not like a weakness that he refused to kill the child. "I'm not too fond of children, in general." He added as an afterthought.

Severin tilted his head curiously in thought at the mention of fate, which seemed to draw his attention back to the card resting in the pocket over his heart. It seemed so ap pro po that he had gotten Death, and he couldn't keep his thoughts away from that irony as he lifted up the still form of the boy and dragged him into the warehouse.

The once abandoned Warehouse suited Dr. Severin's needs perfectly. He had needed a place with a decent ammount of room to work with, and enough security to keep animals and unwanteds' out. This he found, and had since put it to use.

There was a strong smell of blood and death, mingled with decay, when you entered the building. Too many the smell would be overwhelming, but the doctor was used to it and didn't bat an eyelash when he entered. It was basically a Butcher shop, with the various implements and supplies needed to butcher animals and process the meats into suitable, easy to cook forms.

In this case, there were no 'animals' involved, but humans.

"The last two you brought to me have been chopped up and everything of value set aside, the rest thrown to the Boneyard dogs," Severin announced between harsh breaths as he hefted the body of the boy unto a large slab. "I took what I needed for now, not much since the two were rather underfed when I got them. Your share is resting on the table over there." He nodded with his head to motion which table, and sure enough there were packs wrapped in papers and cloth, with several flies buzzing irrately over them.

With an overly dramatic sigh, Rubido pushed the thought of his package securely out of mind. After all, he had better things to do today. He glanced at the sun, a milky, wavering disk in the morning glow, and set off at a jog down the broken street. As he neared the outskirts of Kensington district, the usual cacophony of whining screeches of and a hundred men and women screaming advertisement after advertisement poured into the street.

Then it faltered.

The market at Kensington was used to squabbles, bartering, thieving, and marched merrily right on over them. There were few things it would pause at, the most common being a good, hard fight.
Now, Rubido was not a particularly violent man, but there was good money in fights- betting money, escort money, the odd coin from a vender who did not want someone crashing into their wares, that sort of thing. Dressing as he did had its benefits- he was well known enough that he would not even have to advertise if someone "needed" him.
Grinning enthusiastically, Rubido ran to join the crowd.

Emi smiled once more as everyone went silent, she then paused to think and then finally spoke in the same tone and loudness as she was while slowly walking"Good morning Everyone! I hope you have all found what you are looking for here on this fine and nice day! But! I have great news to tell you all!

she spun around a little and raised her left hand up with only the index and thumb up, pointing at the old man as she faced the audience"This nice...but grumpy old man, is having a great sale on food today! Today as he had told me...is charging for a bag's worth of food...for only-"

Sounding as excited and cheerful as she was she faced the audience properly with her self facing forward rather sideways to the audience and spoke the amout that she priced in her mind 350! she paused, and waited for the reaction the audience to stop and then continue to speak "yes indeed, this day only it is 350! So I would recommend that you get what you can today for this maybe your only chance for this deal!

She bowed to the audience and moved away a step or two and walked next to the old man, playing with the large zipper on her jacket

Grondax retrieved the packs from the table not bothering to put them into the pack. It was good work. He could not tell where the meat had come from. It was a tribute to a well practiced craft, and that was something

The smell of the warehouse was nauseating, but Grondax had coped with worse before. He simply held his old shirt up to his face to shield himself from the smell. "Very well. It is enough for now." Grondax surmised as he studied the thoughtful Severin who seemed to be fixed on the dead body.

"You seem troubled today. If it suits you I have other business to attend to. As a merchant I apologize if I troubled you. I will be wary of the goods I supply in the future." He picked the packaged meat up not bothering to put it in his pouch. "If you need anything else just let me know. I’ll help if I can."

Grondax made his way toward the propped door.
