err... if they had written info down in book then i might be able to agree with it being exact... but i guess what you dont understand is that the human brain isnt exact... people forget, people have imaginations... people day dream... these are just a few of the things that would mess it up...

its like this... give the simple sentence of "the rain smells sweet in may" to a person... tell him to memorize it... not to write it down just memorize it... then tell him a month later to give it to another person with the same instructions... as this goes on the sentence will slowly change... no matter how hard the people try to keep it the same... it will change... why? cause people will hear differently... people will forget parts of it... and i could go on and on with reasons... now as you say... these druids Had to memorize over 100 legands or what not... right? that means there is more to forget... more to mis hear... and when they teach their understudy things will change... heh... thats why we have text books in school... cause if we didnt we would be very bad off on our history

side note: there was christianity in 28 AD as christianity is defined as anyone who trys to fallow and be christ like... so the first christians would have been the 12 deciples

and with the so called little information we have, how do you actually know what they did to prove them selves worthy of being a druid...
you never know it could be how it is today, with the child asking the parents... "what religion are we?" ... "catholic dear... catholic"
and as you know we have catholics who are hard core... pray everyday... da.. da... da.. da.. and we have the ones who go to church every other sunday and are happy with that...

anyways lol tittles dont matter anymore

i don't think you are accurately comprehending the necessity of a good memory for the Druid tradition.

they memorized lineages. they memorized lores. they memorized laws. it had to be word for word. for a culture who depended on the passed on word, they had to hone their skill for many years to remember everything. there was no option of deteriorating a story.

now. give a person 5 stories. stories they've heard growing up. stories that they re-enact. give them a year/5 years to memorize it (with no tv, cd's, computers, books, etc). tell them that their ability to repeat the story is a source of entertainment for their people. that when they are in a hall, being a guest, they can engage in hospitality by accurately telling a story to the king, or repeating the many great people who had been in that family.

those taught to be Druids weren't just random people off the street. they were taught extensively, particularly with memory skills. they were the walking history of their people. they had to recount things accurately. otherwise, they couldn't be a Druid.

now as you say... these druids Had to memorize over 100 legands or what not... right? that means there is more to forget... more to mis hear... and when they teach their understudy things will change... heh... thats why we have text books in school... cause if we didnt we would be very bad off on our history
text books can be, and have been, altered. a written word is not a guarantee it will be remembered or accurate.

the Druids were the lawyers, the priests, the doctors, the judges, the historians, the politicians of their people. they had to be able to remember the laws of the land, enact them, remember which herbs could heal, and how much could kill, and then come to a hall and entertain a king and his audience with his lineage. they were the source of the lands history.

think of a favorite tv show. think of the theme song that it always played. i can guarantee you that i rememember "Jem and the Holograms" theme song, as i listened to it very frequently and stored it in my memory.

they were essentially Jews who simply believed the Messiah had come (could only have "fulfilled" the Messiah's role after he died, which was about 30AD). notice, they followed Kosher, they still had Saturday as their Sabbath, and were considered heretical Jews. it wasn't until Paul came around that it started to divurge into something completely different.

Druids had to fill certain roles in their society. that's how we know they were worthy of being a Druid. they filled the roles of doctor, historian, poet, spiritual leader, lawyer, judge, diplomat, and politician; the intellegista. they schooled for nearly 20 years.

conversely, with the little information we have, how can we justifiably say we are worthy of the title.

silent_theos
you never know it could be how it is today, with the child asking the parents... "what religion are we?" ... "catholic dear... catholic"
a Druid filled more roles than simply religious. they were active figures that couldn't have not known about what they did.

silent_theos
and as you know we have catholics who are hard core... pray everyday... da.. da... da.. da.. and we have the ones who go to church every other sunday and are happy with that...

then why the debate on keeping one?

i would counter that titles are important as they define what one is and is not. they keep confusion to a minimum and encourage those of like minds/beliefs to congregate.

the title of King/Queen still matters. the title of President still matters. the title of police officer still matters. the title of lawyer still matters. all of which require certain education and bestowed rights to claim. same thing with being a Druid.
