Kimi jumped and dropped her textbook. The corner of the book hit her toe and she let out a yelp of pain, kicking the text for good measure. She turned to the boy, and raised her brow at him as she bent to retrieve the book.
"Watching you?" she said, snorting. "I wasn't watching you. I was watching the stars."
She tucked the graphing pencil over her ear again and folded her astrology chart between the pages of the notebook. She glanced back at the boy.
"What were you doing anyway? If you're going to sleep on the roof, sleep on the other side. It's just close enough to the dorms that you won't get shocked if you miss curfew. Sato-san does it all the time."

"Sleeping? Heh."
He shook his head, smirking a bit. He was a bit pissed, definitely, but he always kept his cool - the one time he didn't, well...that's what got him here in the first place.
"For your information, I was meditating. This place has stressed me out more in a day than the rest of my life added up."
He turned and headed towards the stairs. "Now, I'm gonna head down to my room, where I know people won't be watching me."

Kimiko shrugged.
"You know, why would I be watching you? In all seriousness, I can garuntee there's only one student who is on this rooftop more than I am, and let me tell you...it isn't you."
She sighed and looked up at the sky again.
"And welcome to Matrimony...Stess is an everyday factor of life here." she said quietly. Her eyes remained averted, staring at the stars.
"But I apologize if I have offended you. I saw no reason to leave, just because there was another person here. You didn't bother me, I didn't bother you. Simple as that, ne?"
Heavens above but what was she doing? She was making conversation? What was wrong with her? She was tempted to check herself for a fever, but decided against it. No need to draw any more attention to herself.

Yuusuke weighed this out for a second. She wasn't lying - her astronomy text was right there.
s**t, Yuusuke. When did you become so paranoid?
He nodded. "Uun. Simple as that. It's just..." he thought for a second on how to complete the sentence. <******** it. No need to put up an act. You don't need the head games now, tomodachi.
He sighed, finishing. "I wasn't expecting anyone to be watching me up here. I came up here wanting to be alone, ne? When I saw you there, it just startled me. Gomen, ne?"
He bowed to her in apology. "By the way, I'm Yuusuke."

Kimi waved off his apology with her free hand.
"Ee, everyone gets a little crazy first day. I didn't talk to anyone for weeks when I first got here." she said, shrugging.
Hell, why was she talking so much now? Blasted nighttime, making her drop her guard. She loved the stars, but that same peace of mind that helped her cope with this place also lowered her defenses.
"I thought you were sleeping..."
The corner of her mouth twitched with the slightest indication of a sardonic smile as she recognized the irony of the situation.
"Honestly, the reason I didn't say anything is because I didn't want to wake you, ne? My conversation skills are somewhat...well, lacking...."

"Lacking, eh?" Yuusuke questioned, as he sat down on the roof cross-legged. "You seem to be doing fine with conversation, from what I've seen. Though you missed one important rule..." he trailed off.
Yea, he was still a wise-a**, but not playing any head games.
"When someone tells you their name, you should probably tell them yours, ne?" he grinned.

Kimi snorted, and brushed a lock of hair out of her brown eyes.
"Gomennasai. I told you I'm not one for chitchat." she said, a hint of sarcasm in her tone as she bowed slightly. "I'm Kimiko."
She brushed the cement dust from her skirt and straightened the collar of her blouse. Were there any here that called her Kimi? She didn't think so.
For all of everything, at least Yuusuke had a nice smile. She wondered at the streak of blue in his hair, but mentally shrugged. Not her business what other people did with themselves. She sat down in much the same manner as Yuusuke, except she took care to be sure she didn't flash her underwear in the process. She went to lean her chin on her fist, but jerked upright again, and yelped. She had sat on the end of her long braid. Grimacing at her blunder, she pulled the length of hair out from under her rear.
"Come to think of it...I've done more talking today than I have since I got here. Odd to think that it has been with people I've never met before."

"Yea, well, people that you've never met before are always the most interesting, you know." Yuusuke said, smirking.
"So, Kimiko, eh?" Yuusuke said, trying to find words for conversation; he wasn't quite sure why he was still talking to her, but he was kind of enjoying himself - it was a breath of fresh air after Jezz, that was for damned sure.
"How long have you been here at Midori?" he inquired. He was sure she had been asked the 'why' a million times. He knew that he was already asked it twice, and he'd already been here a day - if she was here any longer than him, she was probably as sick of it as he was becoming.

Kimi sighed and looked up at the sky. So many stars....
"A few months now..." she said absently. She fiddled absently with the end of her plaited mane. "Long enough to be sick of it. But then...it doesn't take long to get sick of Hell, ne?"
She looked back at Yuusuke, raising a brow. "This is your first day, isn't it." she stated. "I've never seen you around before."
She leaned back on her palms against the roof, a light breeze stirring the cool stillness of the night.

"Un. My very first day." he said, in a faux kid's voice.
"So Hell, huh? I guess I'll figure that out for myself once my classes start. But for now, it hasn't been too horrible," he lied through his teeth. "Though I guess," he added in retrospect, "that one person kind of ruined my day. My first day," he added, for comic relief.
Yuusuke laid down onto his back, looking up at the sky. He could tell already - he was going to spend ALOT of time up here...speaking of which, "Hey, where did you say was close enough to the boys dorms that I wouldn't get shocked after curfew?"

Kimi couldn't help but smile slightly. Again it was a small smile, but there.
"Well, then I guess you lucked out if it was only one person." she said sarcastically. She hadn't really meant her tone to be sour, but it seemed her voice had a bit of a mind of its own.
She looked at him and her brow arched over her eye again. She pointed.
"See that building there? That's the boys' dorms. That bench is just close enough that your collar will still register that you're in the building. Though you'll probably find yourself competing with Sato-san for the spot. He's the only one on this roof more than I am."
She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear that had found its way loose from her braid. "Unfortunately, the girl's dorm is on the other side, so I can't spend the night out here, much as I would like to."
She made a face, and continued to gaze skyward. Then, without warning, she changed the topic. Things were starting to get a bit personal. "So...you have any favorite subjects? For all its being a prison, there are some decent classes."

Yuusuke shook his head. "Uun, but I haven't gotten my schedule yet," he said. "Though I'm hoping that they put me in some sort of music class. Being here for very long without music is going to drive me nuts."
"Honestly, I don't see the point of this place. I really should of picked juvenile hall, ne? This is just juvenile hall with classes and collars...at least in the big house, they can't 'expel' me," he bitched.
"So, what about you? Astronomy must be your favorite subject, ne?" he asked, pointing to the text book.

Unexpectedly, Kimi blushed.
"Am I that obvious?" she said, running her fingers idly over the cover of her textbook. "Hai, astronomy has been an interest of mine for a while. I dabbled in astrology when I was in middle-school. But it was a passing phase, the sort of thing one takes up to seem 'cool'. We've all had one of those, ne?"
She untucked the chart from the pages of her notebook. "I still have a certain curiousity in it, but I can't say I believe in it."
She tucked away the paper and looked back to Yuusuke. "Music seems quite in demand here. I myself play the clarinet, but I'm not very good. What about you? We have a few guitar players here, but I only know them by face and name, from Band and Music Theory. Have you met Shimotsuma-san? Blonde hair, violet eyes...tall? Or maybe Rothyk-san...one blue eye, one brown. Red hair."
If there was one thing Kimi was good at, it was remembering faces and names. She prided herself on her ability to remember details.

"Iie, not a guitar player," he shook his head. "I play a bit of bass, but not guitar. Too many strings for me, ne? But yea, I met Rothyk-san...trying to get his boyfriend out of class due to some teachers wrath in detention, if I remember correctly..." he said.
He drifted into thought for a second. "Passing phases, eh? Yea, I guess we do all have them," he agreed. "Though honestly, I think I'm still going through mine." He shrugged off this last statement, and continued looking at the stars.

Kimi shrugged.
"Didn't know Rothyk-san liked boys. I've seen him around with girls once or twice, but then it also isn't my business, ne?" she shrugged again, and leaned back, being sure once again to keep her skirt from displaying anything she didn't want seen. She shivered in the chill air, having only her short-sleeved blouse. It was getting late, and therefore, the temperature was dropping, and Kimi, intelligent creature that she was, forgot her blazer.
There was a long, drawn-out silence, as she stared at the sky. She didn't want to pry. She certainly didn't want him to start nosing around her personal thoughts.
The silence lengthened. She had already exhausted her repatoire of small talk...Short of talking about the weather, she really didn't know what else to say. She had already been chatting it up with Yuusuke for some some minutes now. She wasn't sure if she liked the concept or not. Pleasant enough guy, she supposed. But there had to be something he wasn't saying, that he was here to begin with...
