I remember reading about something on a GW site, and it was joking about how all these flaws and plot holes were placed so that it would maintain discussion about Gundam Wing and keep the fanbase alive so they have some people to mooch off of for money.
I mean, if everyone were perfect, with no quirks or flaws, you'd have no one to direct the hate to in this show, and no one to love.

The only characters I actually dislike are Relena and Dorothy. Because they... Got on my nerves? sweatdrop Yeah, something like that.
But otherwise, I like everyone's little flaws. That's what makes a character great, eh? It wouldn't be any fun if they were perfect.
(I don't get 1x2, either. I don't mind it, but I just don't get it. Where did it come from? neutral )

Duo: how can you call something fan girls made up a character flaw? You know us scyco fan girls aren't legaly responsible for our own actions because we are mentaly unstable, so how do you blame Duo?
Releana:HATE HER!!! I wish Heero had killed her early on in the series(if you ask me, NOT killing her was his one major character flaw!) I belive she is the only truely flawed character because she is LAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lady_Imrahil Sometimes character flaws are absolutely necessary to keep things interesting... I agree, if the pilots and other characters in the show didn't have any flaws it would get pretty bland pretty fast. I have absolutely no qualms with the flaws in the show.

Releana:HATE HER!!! I wish Heero had killed her early on in the series(if you ask me, NOT killing her was his one major character flaw!) I belive she is the only truely flawed character because she is LAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ~I agree with you about Relena. I think her character could be done better. She doesn't see like a strong character, and she also self-centered. To me it seems that she only cares about her believes and heero. She didn't show to care about the other pilots or other people as much. That why I wished heero shot her in the beginning, then she wouldn't get involved in something that she shouldn't been involved in the beginning. ~ I also hate mad Heero/Relena pairing. I think Heero would be much better off with Serena/ Usagi/Bunny (Sailor Moon) (more so from the manga). She may seem like a weak character at first, but when it comes down to she will fight till the end for her love ones and that includes EVERYONE ON EARTH!!! Plus Serena is much prettier than Relena. That's my opinion and you can't change that razz But you have rights to disagree.

If I were going to be cynical, I would respond to the above post in this fashion:
"Heero: Yeah, to hell with the smart, passionate, dedicated girl. I want me a whiny, bratty klutz."
Look, I respect differing opinions, but I have to ask...where the HELL did you get the idea that Relena is in any way selfish or self-centered? What part of "dedicated public servant at age 16" says selfish to you?
Heero killing her would have completely screwed the series. You might tell yourself that things would have gotten along without her...well, you're wrong. No Relena, nobody to lead the opposition to Romefeller. Zechs wouldn't do it; he considered himself too tainted. So without strong opposition to Romefeller, they would have steamrolled the planet with Mobile Dolls; Heero and Quatre wouldn't have had the chance to relax after the Zero incident, and may well have been killed. Without them, the Gundam Team loses its tactician and strongest member. Duo, Trowa, and Wu Fei alone would not be able to stand against Romefeller or White Fang by themselves, and that's assuming Wu Fei pulled his head out of his butt long enough to join the others. So without Relena, odds are everything would have gone to hell, literally.
Jeez, the girl makes a bad first impression, and the next thing you know people are treating her like the spawn of Satan...

Imagine his angst, just think the battles could have gone on longer and we would have gotten more episodes *is greedy* The writers certainly could have made it work, but it would have been a totally different show.

Every time one group was defeated, another one sprang up, often including disgruntled members of the original (see: OZ -> Treize Faction -> White Fang -> Mariemaia Army). They really emphasized that the way to end the wars wasn't by kicking everyone's butts, but by getting everyone to try to understand one another and forget about what lead to those wars in the first place. Relena was the one who did a good portion of that; with the Kingdom, she showed that someone could stand up to Romefeller. As Queen of the World, she tried to unite the planet and space peacefully, and almost succeeded. In EW, she's the one who encouraged the citizens to stand up and reach for peace themselves instead of relying upon the boys all the time. Maybe I'm being cynical, but it doesn't seem like any other character in the show could have done that. Zechs might have had a chance in the past, but by the time the series rolls around he's too jaded. Treize couldn't have done it if people hadn't started listening to Relena's message; to them, it would have just been another war.

This may or may not have been broached, but how about the fact that Heero is a sucidal b***h?
I rewatched epidose 1, like, twice. He seems more than happy to die at any opportunity available, without actually having to bring the razor down, himself.
After beigng attacked by Zechs, he gives up so easily, pleased that it's over. After being rescued by Duo, he merrily flings himself down the ravine, only opening his parachute after being yelled at for a good thirty seconds. Afterwards, he gets pissed off about surviving ("I shouldn't have opened the parachute" or some such nonsense).
Then... he goes after the Wing, fully intending to destroy it, and when he manages to release the torpedoes, he lets himself fall into the ocean, thinking gentle thoughts of freedom to himself.
Oh, yes. This boy definitely has his eyes on a heroic future as a gundam pilot.
Then, floating face-down in the water, Heero... lays... floating face-down in the water.
Wow.
He seems all too ready to embrace death and escape his position as a pilot. I mean like, wow, this b***h wants to die.
Phew. Got that off my chest.

You clearly know the show better than I. It has been awhile since I watch it and my memory is a little vague, but I will say this: Good impression matters. That is a fact in life. If you don't give off a good impression, then it going to be hard for people to like or even trust you. That why I believe that she is not such a strong charater. It's not like I totally hate her, I just didn't have a good impression on her character. It she started off better, than maybe I would like her better. But that is how I feel. Don't try to bit my head off. ~Second, If you read my comment clearly the first time, I was referring to Sailor Moon more so in the manga than in the anime. She is not a klutz in the manga. It is not my fault that they made her such a klutz in the anime. She may not appear to be smart, but she IS a passionate and dedicated person and I would believe Heero can love her in an Alternate Universe.

Her first impression wasn't that bad at all, people just like over-exaggerating things. Seriously, this is the exact transcript of her first lines in the show:
DARLIAN: What's the matter Relena? Aren't you glad to be coming home to Earth?
RELENA: No, not a bit.
DARLIAN: Sorry I couldn't spend time with you. Work keeps interfering.
RELENA: Father, next time we go out to space how about leaving yourself a little free time?
This, apparently, makes her a brat. But has anyone really stopped and thought about it? Firstly, 14-year-old girls don't usually go on their fathers' business trips. The dialogue implies that Darlian brought Relena along because he thought he'd have the time to spend with her, but it didn't happen. So, when you get right down to it, she's upset because he broke a promise; granted, he is a busy man and I'm sure she understands that, but I get a distinct feeling that this has happened many times in the past, and she's getting frustrated with it. Really, who can blame her?
And honestly, I'm really not hot on the whole idea of crossover relationships. The only way to get two shows as completely different as Sailor Moon and Gundam Wing together is to basically rip the guts out of one and force-fit it into the other's universe, either by "reincarnating" the boys in modern-day Japan or "reincarnating" the girls in the After Colony. The only other option is to tear both apart and mash them into an "original" universe. But if you do any of that, then you're really not dealing with SM or GW anymore, are you? You're dealing with characters who are pale imitations. To me, that doesn't speak of loving or respecting the anime involved.
Besides, Usagi/Serena/Bunny/whatever already HAS somebody; granted, he can be a real jerk at times, but that's the funny thing about destiny... razz
