I've always wanted to do a Nitendoe theme. Play like Super Mario Brothers and Donkey Kong. Ha ha ha. I'm such a loser.

last year our band had an uber sweet Senior trumpet player.. He was awsome, if he would have shown up more often he would have played The Mario Theme during our silent drill... but he never came to practice because he had a life... anyway...

The show we are doing this year is Beatles Music
Magical Mystery Tour / A hard day's night
Yesterday
Elenor Rigby
Hey Jude
and we have about 4 trumpet solo's but the worst trumpet section ever... and 1 percussion solo, also sucks (because there is only 4 of us)...
all in all there are about 42 people in band... sweatdrop

I've always wanted to do an anime theme. Like, the .hack music is mostly instumentated, and it's really cool. I'm sure Neko Kafweenu would agree with me on this.

... actually, it's her idea. Sorry Neko! sweatdrop

Ahem, anyway, my show this year is an ancient Chinese theme. Pretty cool. biggrin

We've played John Williams stuff for concert . . . but I guess a composer like himself think it's degrading to have marching bands perform his music- because as you know you have to rewrite it some way to make it fit on the field. Ha ha ha. I never thought about it but there are no Star Wars or Indiana Jones or Harry Potter themed shows. Of course . . . Harry Potter doesn't exactally the most exciting score I've ever heard. xp

My schedule? We practice in class for an hour Tuesday-Friday. Tuesday nights we have practice anywhere between 5:30 to 8-9. Friday afternoon we practice right after school and that's about it . . . Idid hear about this one band that practices every day after school for three hours. Or maybe four times a week! eek This is a band right near me supposivily. But yeah my band doesn't do competitions- there are none in this area but this year if we do good at state contest we might be able to go to
one! whee *crosses fingers*

Actually, my band has done John Williams. It sucked, but we did it. We played Raiders of the Lost Ark, Far and Away, and the ET theme. As for Harry Potter, no it's not that exciting, but it too has been done. We saw a band at States that did it. Drum major was dressed up as Harry Potter himself, and drummers were wearing slytherin stuff. The colorguard had gryffindor stuff on, and they battled...it was odd

Speaking of odd, I once saw a band whose theme was "Orb" and they had a giant purple yoga ball that was being bounced all over the field. Which also reminds me that we saw another band that did Devil Went Down to Georgia...the drum major played the electric fiddle...and sang!

Helter- eek eek OK . . . singing, fiddling drum major- all the power to them because none of my three drum majors can do that. domokun And the yoga ball . . . hmm . . . I did see one band- I forgot the theme, but they had these giant golden sparkly balls put in their show for the dancers I think . . . it was actually pretty cool until they started doing this mosh pit- let's put the horn line in a huddle and let them jump around and scream- thing. eek

Demon Shia- .hack theme? I don't know about that . . . .hack music is very . . . calming and techno-ish. I can't really see it be put on the field. sweatdrop

I remember one year some one did the Planets Theme. That was a REALLY boring show. Even with Jupiter and Mars put in there- no, no, the Planets should never be done as a marching show.

I saw a band who did 'Surfin USA', and the majorettes had a shark fin, and only like a few people played. The woodwinds played beach volleyball... on the field. O_O It was weird.

Exactly. From what I've heard about him, though, he seems like a nice and adaptable guy . . . it's a shame. *dreams of a Star Wars show in which the guard duels with lightsabers* And Harry Potter, well, I've thought that the Quidditch theme would make for some good show music (I have the soundtrack, and it's about the right length), but you're right.

So what do you think would make the coolests show? If you had unlimited money to create it? (And a kick-a** band to do it in <--not saying your band is bad- i'm just saying a totally awesome one)

We don't do halftime shows, so I have no idea as to a theme. Our marching band practices are only during the last two weeks of August from 6pm to 9pm. I suppose we got it easy. Meh, I feel so left out. crying

Hmm....the show we did last year had to be one of my dream shows...We had a rock theme...Our songs were Iron Man, Smoke on the Water, and Pinball Wizard....Hehe...In Pinball wizard, during the drum break, the whole band was formed in this giant pinball machine...and we had one of the managers roll this huge green ball "through" it..hehe..it was so cool....Of course, I was a trumpet then and right on the 50 yard line...so the ball came right by me. Needless to say, I almost got knocked over many a time or two. (the ball was 5 ft in diamater..hehe)

But another dream show would have to be Riverdance lol....If at one point in the piece the whole band formed this giant line or either ranks across the field and we started highland dancing..that'd be so great lol....

Meh. I don't know, maybe it's a good thing. Our band sucks at marching. Or as our french horn put it, we can play, and we can march, but we can't march and play. 'Sides, I don't think we'd have the time to practice, our classes are only about 1 1/2 hours long, and we can't go after school, 'cause there are too many kids in sports and stuff. Maybe that's why I'm a concert band geek rather than a marching band geek. Actually, I'm really pissed at my section leader. I think that if I march next year, that it's going to be on french horn or tuba.

But if you actually were forced to march in a show, your marching would quickly get better. So what do you do, if you don't have a show? Just march in parades?

Yeah, I guess you're right. There is some stuff that's upbeat, but it's still kinda...... synthsized. I didn't really think about it.
