What's so surprising about a lonely, sex-starved, 40-something surgeon thinking about inappropriate things? This is probably the first woman he's seen beyond his mother and the odd female patient in years.

"Astonishing, there's something you don't complain about," Alphonse remarks snidely, propping his cheek up on an elbow and twirling his fork in the air.

Then, Alva has the nerve to call him on his wandering eyes. He lets out a low growl, his face turning a bright red as he looks away sheepishly, focusing on the gramophone across the room again. The look on his face is one of annoyance, and he flashes his teeth for a moment. "And just... what did you think I was... looking at?"

There's nothing surprising at all about such a thing- it's simply that a complete ice queen liking the cold is less so. Though a man so desperate for female company must be pitied.

"Hmph," Alva vocalizes with amusement. "There's plenty of things I don't complain about; you're simply so unfortunate as to consist of many things that I do complain about."

The man's blatant reaction illicits a small laugh out of the woman. Flexing the fingers of her left hand in such a way that the joints crack, she responds, "Oh, the same things that all depraved men look at. Your reaction to my statement was an obvious confirmation." She pauses a quick moment to take another bite, and then says, "To be honest, I have seen men half your age who are better at concealing where they are pointing their eyes."

"So do you hate all men, or just me?" Alphonse childishly asks, still staring across the room at the gramophone. "If you find me so detestable, why did you even agree to dinner in the first place?"

He wanted to get up and retreat into his bedroom out of embarassment and shame, but the surgeon was reluctant to move or even get up. "How would you know what I was looking at, anyways? I could have just been looking at your hands... I admire hands," he says feebly. "I'm a surgeon, you know... I take hands into great consideration."

What Alphonse doesn't realize is that he's digging himself into a deeper grave.

"Oh, it can't be said that I hate you just yet, though I do certainly dislike you," the woman quips in response. "I tend to detest people in general, until they give good reason for me not to... as for your second question, I didn't feel I should turn down an opportunity for decent food, and I wished to see if I could find out more about you."

How did she know what he was looking at? Well, maybe because it was insanely obvious, silly man. Alva smirks as she listens to Alphonse trying feebly to wriggle out of this situation. "My hands, you say?" she says, cracking the joints of her left hand again and looking at it in mock appraisal. "I doubt you would find mine admirable; they aren't exactly a woman's hands-" which is true: her fingers are large and undainty, and would probably be ungainly if she didn't know how to use them as well as she can- "and I've gathered that you have a stubbornly strict set of standards concerning how a woman should be. Regardless, though, your face is a very impressive shade of red right now, which suggests that you find my hands appealing in some way. I'm almost inclined to ask what you think my hands might be good for."

"If you wanted to find out more, you could have simply asked," Moreau says dejectedly.

Damn it. Shut up, woman! Alphonse flashes his teeth again, his frustration and embarassment quite apparent - aside from his red face, there's the way he's clenching his teeth, how his brows are furrowed, how his hands are balled up into fists, and how his eyes have now drifted over to stare at the floor instead of the gramophone.

"When I had suggested for you to ask, I did not mean for you to ask about that," he hisses, "and for that, I refuse to answer." He's past the point of trying to cover up anymore. Had he been more clear-headed, he probably would have tried to say something remotely clever like "sewing" or "playing instruments."

However, it's hard to be clever when you're blind with frustration and your thoughts are clouded by terribly improper things...

"I prefer actual interaction over picking away at someone with question after question. The latter can get very tiring," Alva says, her voice with a tone that suggests even thinking about such a method makes her feel impatient. Besides, the former way is much more entertaining.

This woman's mood and body language is practically the complete opposite of Moreau's- her stance overall is relaxed, her cheek rests on the knuckles of her left hand while her right idly swirls around her cup, and her face displays a raised eyebrow and a highly amused, sadistic smirk. Despite the fact that she's in undesirable company, she's clearly quite enjoying herself.

"I wouldn't have expected you to answer, anyway," she quips- a response open to interpretation. Is it because she knows the man is just that stubborn, or is it because she knows the man doesn't want to reveal exactly what he is thinking about, despite it being written all over his tomato-colored face?

"Is that so," grumbles the man, sinking into his chair and crossing his arms over his chest. His disposition is like that of a child after being caught stealing from the cookie jar - outwardly defiant, submissive, and shamed. His lips are kept tightly shut, and he doesn't say a word after that.

And he's quiet like that for a while, before he stammers out, "This conversation ends now. Let's talk about other things."

Damn that woman.
PostPosted: Tue May 09, 2006 2:15 pm

"Indeed," the woman chuckles, enjoying every single glorious second of this victory over the man sitting across her. She obviously likes winning. A lot.

"Something else, hmm?" she muses. "Do you have any suggestions? I'm not one to pick subjects out of the air at random..." Alva's actually considering returning to a more pleasant conversation now that Moreau has more or less resigned to his defeat.

Suddenly, she laughs. "Oh, this is amusing... we don't know each other's names yet, do we?" Her head shakes slowly in amusement at this. "And normally an introduction is the first thing that happens, though I daresay our initial meeting has been far from normal." An almost geniune smile graces her features. "Alva Borghild."

Damn it. Alphonse didn't have anything in mind for a change in topic conversation, and he should have expected for Alva to pass the suggestion on to him. Freezing like a deer in headlights, he stiffly knits his fingers together and chews on his bottom lip. "I'm afraid we have both run this conversation into the ground," he says tersely.

He suddenly looks at her when she mentions that they don't even know each other's names. "Oh, we don't?" Alphonse parrots, again shifting in his chair and crossing a leg over his knee. "How... rude of me to neglect telling you my name -- I thought I had already, but..." The man gulps, then holds his head up. "Alphonse Moreau."
PostPosted: Tue May 16, 2006 6:05 pm

"Alphonse, hmmm..." she says the name experimentally, emphasizing in a very ambiguous tone- does she like the name, or is she just being sarcastic again? "Well, Alphonse, it's... a pleasure to meet you, but I believe I may have overstayed my welcome in this little house of yours." Indeed, her meal is as finished as it's going to get.

Alva smirks knowingly. "And I'm sure you'd sooner have me stop plaguing you with my presence than stay. Shall we get me a room so you don't have to deal with me for a while?"

"You have," Alphonse agrees, folding his arms over his chest with a hawklike glare -- his face still a little pink from earlier. "I'll show you to your room in a moment, I... need to wait a little longer." He pauses, then adds quickly, "To digest."

All of his blood is flowing to the wrong places right now, as it had been for the last few moments. Standing up would be a bad idea, especially since there's little else he can do right now to make himself look like an utter lecherous fool in front of this woman.

Damn my instincts, thinks the man, I've been away from civilization for far too long if I'm finding myself desiring this wretched harpy...

He frustratedly drums his fingers on the table, hoping for Alva to get up and leave on her own.
PostPosted: Tue May 16, 2006 6:30 pm

Well, that's quite an excuse, if nothing else... Alva raises her eyebrow in intrigue- there is plenty that she can say right now, but decides to spare the man and simply says "...Of course." with a slow nod. However, there are plenty of curiosities in her mind that will take a while to mute.

She decides to use this time to gather up her cello and carefully return it to its case. Looking back at Alphonse, she says with a wide smile, "You have had quite a day, especially with someone like me taking up part of it. If you think I can find the boarding house myself, I'd be more than willing to leave. Just tell me how to get there, and this wretched harpy will get out of your house."

"It is the large, long building with the flat roof right next to the jungle," Alphonse says, gesturing over to the right. "Next to this place over on the right. It's bigger than the lab. Lots of windows, only one set of doors at the front."

He looks off towards the door, audibly 'hmm'ing. "But I don't suppose you'd want to go out by yourself at night, would you?" He huffs impatiently, then quickly stands up as if ignorant of himself. "To fire and brimstone with it, I'll show it to you."
PostPosted: Tue May 16, 2006 6:49 pm

Alva turns around from gathering her cello right at the moment when Alphonse stands up. She unintentionally catches a glance that confirms her suspicions, but manages to glide over the sight as if she had seen nothing out of the ordinary.

Though this little catch of notice manages to make even more thoughts stir in her head, some of which are slightly unsettling.

"Honestly, I don't mind walking around at night. I've had to navigate in blizzards where it's impossible to see before, so I doubt a bit of darkness would be that much trouble." Picking up her cello case (and cropwhip; can't forget that!) and walking over to open the door and pick up her luggage, she concludes, "But if you insist, go right ahead."

Alphonse is inwardly thanking his lucky stars that Alva hasn't seemed to notice, or at the very least, is polite enough not to comment about it. She seems to have some sense of decency, despite her rather gratuitious lack of it moments before -- in Al's mind, anyway.

"I'll show you the way," the surgeon grunts, waving a hand as if to shoo her out of his home. He no longer wanted her there, she promoted indecent thoughts! It's best to ensure that she leaves and finds her own bed than decide to take over his, and he wouldn't put such horrible things past her!

Shuffling outside, he points to the large building to the right of the house. "Over there. Not terribly far from here, no."
