Okay. Okay that seemed reasonable. He could accept Morgan’s help and would just pay him back later.
He smiled, after letting out a breath of relief, and thanked Morgan for the apple. It definitely smelled delicious, so he could only expect it to taste as good. And it was! He used his fork to take a piece and made sure to blow on it before putting it in his mouth. It was still a little hot but not so much that some awkward wincing and covering his mouth with his hand while he quickly chewed with his mouth mostly open wouldn’t fix!
“It’s really good, thank you Morgan,” he said once he was able to swallow, already digging in for a second bite, although he was more careful about blowing it off some first.
He already missed both Ariel and Morgan, even though they hadn’t parted ways yet. Harrison too, but that was different. He wanted to ask Ariel if he could stay with him… but he had no idea when their schedules would line up again. Casey wasn’t even sure what he was going to do about meals. He would figure it out, of course.
“You be a good girl, okay?” he turned to lean closer to Harrison and pressed his face into her fur when she jumped up with her front paws on his seat. “Don’t give Morgan a hard time. If he doesn’t want you sleeping on him, you can find somewhere else, okay?”
Harrison didn’t seem to understand but was clearly happy to be there.

Morgan watched to make sure that Casey was taking the time to make sure the apple was cooled off enough to eat, and Ariel caught the look that he was giving so when he skewered a slice onto his fork, he held it to his lips and blew to cool it off before he let himself enjoy it, too.
Oh, it was–well, at least better than a caramel apple. He should have paid attention to how Morgan was making it, he might actually like to eat this again. Or–no, they would just have to spend more time with Morgan, right? That’s what he and Casey had been talking about .And maybe he wouldn’t be a third wheel.
…But even if he was, the apples would be good.
“I couldn’t deny her anything. If she wants to sleep on me, she’s more than welcome to. She can go anywhere she wants, except maybe the counter. But we’ll see. But you let me know what your schedule is, Casey. If you want me to drop her off back home at three in the morning, I’ll make the drive. If you two walked here, I know you’re not too far away. I’m a little more than a five minute drive from here so it’s not like I’ll have to drive across town.”

It was strange making plans like this. He liked it. He liked being able to see people and talk to them without them getting tired of him. So far at least. Ariel seemed to be okay with him, and Morgan seemed to tolerate him as well. It was… really nice. And he couldn’t stop himself from smiling the more he thought about it, despite his nervousness and uncertainty.
“Oh, I wouldn’t make you do that. I’ll text you once I know what my schedule is like. They’ve… uh… well, they like to keep us busy.”
He didn’t want to complain about work. He didn’t want to sound ungrateful, either. He would just have to take a deep breath and charge forward and figure things out as they went.
But at least he didn’t have to do that alone. And he was hoping while he was at work he could get some ideas about what to get Ariel and Morgan for Christmas. Because for the first time in years, Casey was actually looking forward to it.
