Eirex inhaled shakily. He wanted to protest further, but he felt like his father had a point. After all, that was his father! Ergon could handle anything! He was more worried about his twin. Reaghan hadn't said anything nor hardly moved since coming out of the water..
"I will.. father." It was time to be brave. He couldn't let his family down! "I'll be done real quick, mother." He squatted and focused intently on the driest pieces of wood and got to work. He didn't have that much practice starting a fire, but he'd done it before. He knew the steps. Soon enough, a spindly line of smoke was rising and a tiny spark of fire began to glow.

Riya gave Ergon a firm look. "You will not go to sleep. Do you hear me?" She worried that if he went to sleep then the fire would dwindle out and he would freeze before she got him help.
She adjusted Reaghan in her arms before she frowned down at the ground. Leaving him behind was hard but her son needed help. "Eirex, catch up quickly." Iriyana stayed only so long to see the first bits of smoke rise from the wood before she turned and headed back.
At first she kept her steps normal. She wanted to give Eirex time to catch up to her and it kept her within his view so he knew which way to go. Riya couldn't handle it if both of her children were in danger or harmed.

The warmth he felt from his mother's body was helping to keep his core warm. Reaghan could feel it under him. It also allowed for the slightest hints of a shiver to start. His back muscles spasming as they tried to aide in getting heat to him. Vaguely he heard the sound of his mother telling his brother to catch up and he wondered what Eirex was doing. He didn't get a chance to open his eyes and look though because he fell right back to sleep, too tired to do much more than think in small bursts.

"I hear.. Go." He wanted to reach out and give his family a hug, some sort of reassurance for them and for himself, but what would being touched by freezing hands and soaked clothing do?
Once the fire began to bite into the other sticks, Ergon gave Eirex a nudge with his leg. Again, he felt the need for something; an embrace or a gentle word of encouragement.. but he just wanted his family safe. This was no time for lingering around. "Go on.."
Now that his family was out of sight, Ergon tried to make himself relax and stop fighting the shivering. He'd wanted to control it at first to ease the anxiety, but not shivering would be a bad sign. Keep moving. Keep moving. No sleeping. He busied himself with pushing the damp snow around to attempt creating a sort of wind barrier. He forgot what he was doing only shortly after starting it though, and ended up crouched next to the fire.

Eirex blew gently at the little flame and added a few sticks to feed the initial flame. Though it was a desperate moment, he felt a bit of pride at how well he'd done.
He looked up at the nudge and frowned. His father didn't look good... but he was strong! Father could handle just about anything! After he hugged his father's waist with a slight flinch at the icy clothing, he turned to race after Riya and Reaghan.
When he caught up, his first look was tp his twin. Reaghan looked bad, too... He gripped the bottom hem of Riya's coat and tugged for her to move faster, his little legs practically at a jog. "Can I help more?" he asked softly.

Riya was doing everything she could to keep her tears from falling. Crying now wouldn't help anyone. She needed to get her son help quickly and send someone after Ergon to prevent the loss of either one. She really didn't like the idea of leaving her husband behind.
When Eirex caught up to her she looked down at him and forced a small smile. "You walk in front of me and lead the way sweetheart, just follow our footsteps back toward town." There was some good in the fact that they had made a trail up through the snow. She was also thankful that it wasn't currently snowing to cover them up.
She gently rubbed a hand up and down Reaghan's back to stimulate heat but she knew it wasn't enough.

Reaghan felt the hand on his back and stirred a little bit. He managed to open his eyes just a peak. Luckily he was facing the side his twin was on and got to see Eirex walking with them. That made him feel better. Seeing his brother safe meant that whatever had happened to him hadn't happened to his sibling. Slowly his eyes closed again and he fell asleep again, the sway of his mother's steps lulling him into darkness.

He couldn't remember being this cold ever before. The longer he stared into the fire, then less willing he was to get back up. He heard a woman scream again.. but it wasn't Riya. He turned just enough to see the lake...
His father kneeling on the ice with his arms flailing in the dark water. He wanted so desperately to get closer and help his father and brother, but he was trapped in his mother's grip. He could feel her practically cutting off his air as she pulled him off of the ice even as she crumbed apart herself.
He couldn't feel the tears. He shook his head as roughly as he could and blinked rapidly. He had sat down at some point. Gritting his teeth, he pushed himself back upright, his clothes cracking slightly with the movement. He had to stay awake. He had to find out if Reaghan was okay.

Eirex pressed his lips and nodded. He could do that! He reached out to pet Reaghan's hair a couple times and then hurried ahead to lead the way. "It's okay, Reaghan!" he called back with regular glances over his shoulder. "We're going to get Hugs for father and then we'll get you to the healer and he's gonna make sure you're okay." He rambled a little more as they walked, entirely uncertain if his brother could even hear him.
He burst into a run when the house came into view. Hugs listened to Riya more than anyone else, but he could find the perzi! The faster he found Hugs, the faster they could move on to town!

She was pleased that Eirex didn't fight her on leading the way. It allowed her to keep her eyes on him and know where he was the whole time.
Riya held Reaghan tight to her and did what she could to give him more of her warmth. As Eirex started to run she gasped, ready to tell him not to but then she saw the house. She relaxed a bit before calling out. "Find Hugs quickly." If she could get her familiar out to Ergon then he could have heat.

Reaghan remained asleep as his brother spoke to him. It wasn't until his mother took a breath in that he surfaced from his rest. He was starting to shiver again. Cracking his eyes open he tried to see where they were. When he noticed they were home he tried to move. He wanted his bed and blankets, he was too cold to be outside. Hugs was lounging in a side window with his tail waving around boredly. The perzi was happy with the empty house.

Ergon focused as hard as he could on the faces of his family. His mind was starting to drift more and more, and he wondered if he had truly made the right call. He had already been moving stiffly from that short time in the freezing water, but he could have tried to reach the house. It wasn't that cold. It was the end of summer, and he was a true Zenan! Maybe he should still try...?
He argued back and forth in his mind, but his body was being clear enough. Zenan summer or not, the air was freezing, his clothing was practically solid, and his limbs and face were starting to burn.

The door to the house nearly smacked open into the wall with the force of the youngling's forward rush. "Hugs!" Eirex dashed for the perzi's clothing box first. The booties and a sweater would surely be needed! Then he hurried to where Hugs was relaxing so contently. "Father needs you," he announced as he unceremoniously grabbed the feline and shoved him into his clothes.
Back outside, he dropped the poor persi in front of Riya and turned his attention to town. It was during the day, so the doctor would surely be in! In a fit of stubborn impatience, he took off at a run toward town. "I'm gonna go ahead!" he called back. The sooner he got the doctor...

She cringed when she saw the door swing open so violently but since it was an emergency she wasn't going to yell at him for it. Eirex was on a mission to find hugs. And he needed to be quick. They needed to get the perzi to Ergon and take Reaghan to the healer.
She waited only a few short minutes before she saw her son and familiar coming out. Of course Hugs was dressed in his outing wear. She looked at Hugs and smiled. "Hugs. Hunt Ergon." She pointed off to the trail in the snow they had left behind. "Go hunt Ergon." She had trained her familiar to hunt scent very well and he knew the name commands for family members.
When Eirex stated he was going ahead she opened her mouth to tell him to slow down but she stopped herself. Instead she sighed and did her best to keep him in her sight. Once Hugs trotted off she followed behind Eirex.

Through it all Reaghan remained asleep, his body starting to shiver a bit more violently than before. That was a good sign that the warmth from his mother was helping. Hugs, was taken completely by surprise by the smaller earthling that his own earthling had spawned. The fact that he was all but shoved into his clothing made him yowl at the boy a few times. He knew better than to bite or scratch though so he was mostly all noise and protest than actual attack. Once outside Hugs moved over to Riya with more sass in his stride than usual. Of course his earthling gave him the command to hunt and a target. He'd learned those early on so he understood them well enough. The fact that she pointed in a direction made him move toward the snow track and lower his nose. He could scent them all but when he got the one he wanted he took off down the trail. He glared at everything around, looking for his target. It would take him some minutes but when he spotted Ergon he paused to sniff the air and make sure it was him. The nose never lied after all. When that was confirmed Ergon stood no chance as the perzi took it upon himself to run and pounce on his prey.
