Rex had hunched over at the table with his back to the food bar, chewing his sandwich diligently. His overgrown canines only made things harder to eat, he'd gotten used to it over time though.
Since he wasn't facing the door, he didn't see Zach or Billy come into the cafeteria. Rex had been immersed in his his meal while staring off blankly into space. it wasn't until Zach sat down at his table did he snap out of his absent thinking.
Is that "Zach?" Rex said, trying to peer into the face of the islander across from him. This certainly wasn't the Zach that he'd known before! His horns were... actually there, unlike before. "How have ya been, bud?!" Rex exclaimed, tossing his hands up slightly. But... Rex couldn't help but feel like there was something that he'd been told about Zach. What was it?!

Zach didn't notice Billy enter, or he would have panicked. He grimaced and leaned back a little in his chair. Despite all the oddities of his appearance as of late, his one arm would never fail to give him away.
"Yes... hey Rex. I've been..." There wasn't really a good word to describe it. He noticed the glances at his horns, but instead of saying anything, he grabbed his fork and speared his steak. "Different. How about you?"

Once filled, Billy moved to find a seat. He was suddenly presented with a problem. Should he sit alone and safe from any fights that might result in his return, once again, to the lab for one reason or another, or make a risk and attempt to socialize. He spotted a tufted tail that seemed to vegually trigger a bit of recollection. Oh yes. The blonde lass's friend. What was his name? He was alright. There was some other chap with rediculous looking horns- he was nearly at the table befor recollection hit and a wet little one-armed man came to mind. "Ach, I know you-" He stopped at the end of the table, "Nice horns."

Rex grinned widely since he hadn't seen anyone in quite some time, he didn't really care much about Zach's change, He was just plain happy to be around someone. "Different? Boy, I feel yeh." He scratched his scruffy chin, nearly a full blown beard had spread his cheecks. Shaving was just plain pointless as it grew back so quickly, Rex figured it was best just to get it grow.
Zach seemed aggrivated, how long ago had he changed? How was he taking it? Then he caught sight of Zach's brilliant yellow eyes and ruby red scales. What on earth...? He wouldn't bother him about it though, Rex had finally gotten it through his head that some people weren't taking to the changes as aptly as he was.
Rex's thoughts were interupted by the appearance of another man, Rex looked up from his plate to see tentacled hands holding a fish-filled plate. Oh my gosh, it's that sleeze... name... name... one phrase brought it back to his head on a silver platter, 'Billy the bearded bride'. Rex almost choked on lunch at the recollection of the last time he'd seen Avery. "Hey Billy!" Rex said enthusiastically, trying to hold back his laughter. "Wow.. I see that you've changed as well? Moreau must be on a rampage."

"Have you seen Amaya lately?" he asked distractedly, attempting to make a conversation that was pointedly not about their changes. He avoided looking over at Rex, instead fidgeting the impaled fork around between his fingers.
Zach didn't bother with the fork for long. Having only the one hand, he quickly swapped with a knife and diced up his steak, then plucked one piece up with his claws. Meat. It only reminded him of some of his unresolved problems. Before Zach even managed to start on his meal, he looked over Rex's shoulder in time to see Billy approaching, and went pale under his sunburn-colored skin. That psychotic mess of a man was back?
"B-Billy?" he exclaimed in surprise as he stared up at the tentacled man. The piece of meat slipped from his fingers and bounced on his plate. "I-I- thanks...I think..." He felt himself tense up and attempt to shrink in his seat, in preparation for another attack from Billy.

Billy sank into the seat beside Zach, placing his tray down in a friendly fashion, "Glad t'see th'company here at least is decent. There's some real piece o' works on this island, aint there?" He pointedly leaned on his elbow, a tentacle slipping between his buttons to feed himself a piece of raw fish in the habit he had grown comfortable with.

"Amaya?" Rex's heart pounded accented that particular beat at the time, he hadn't seen the girl in a while. "No, no I haven't." The last itme he'd seen her was at her parents grave... and he sung. He dtill didn't have any idea why he did that, it just kind of leaked out. I'm such an idiot. "Why? Is she alright?"
He chuckled once again, swallowing a big bite of his sandwich once again, his tail flicking gently out the back of the chair. "Most of the people I've met on the island have been really nice, but I know what you mean, Billy." He remembered when Zach went slightly insane after Rex's change, that was a bit odd. Antony was certainly a unique woman as well. Colche too... maybe there were more strange people here on the island than he thought.

After carefully watching Billy for a minute to see if he'd make any strange movies, Zach turned to Rex, surprised at the amount of concern that the man was showing. "Oh, um, I guess she's all right. I don't know. The last time I saw her was with you. I was just... curious." Well, if anything had happened to that lizard girl recently, he knew he had nothing to do with it.
He took a piece of meat and forced himself to eat it. He didn't know what would happen if he tried salad or vegetables again. The predator had been quiet lately, very quiet, and it was reassuring to think maybe it wouldn't return at all. Too bad he had no idea what had sparked its presence in the first place.
Zach glanced at Billy, but didn't turn to the man. He had seen his share of those wriggling tentacles the last time they'd met. He was uneasy, especially in such proximity. "Yeah... but that wasn't enough variety for them." He invoked the doctors deliberately. After all, in addition to human, the three of them sitting at the table were respectively part lion, part octopus, or part overgrown lizard. He looked around for a badly disguised camera to stare down, but couldn't find one with his eyes.

Billy continued eating, sitting back to watch them while idly chewing his sushi. He had no idea who or what they were talking about, ergo his attention wandered, staring at Rex's inhuman features as he tried to guess what he was becoming. Zach was a mystery to him- he didn't know that much about lizards beside the salamanders he'd find in his mum's garden when he was young. And then get beaten for bringing them into the house to keep as pets. Maybe a type of goat? He cocked his head to the side, still staring and deep in idle thought as he chewed his raw fish.

Rex was still more puzzled than ever. And he just had "Billy, it's obvious that you're turning into some kind of... oc... to... pus.. thing." He spread out the syllables in thought, sizing up as much as he could from what Rex could see. He had been eating alot of sushi as well, and thankfully the changes had knocked some sense into the slimy man. Hey, what do you know! His change reflects his personality. Billy seemed to be behaving himself much more than last time, maybe because Avery the 'fine lass' wasn't around.
Rex continued with his thought, "But I have no idea what on earth your change is, Zach. Do you have any ideas?" Rex rattles his brain for anything scaley with horns, but his lack of animal knowledge continued to give him blanks.

Zach's odd yellow eyes darted between Billy and Rex's curious stares. His tail stopped swishing and slowed to a stop. "I'm... um..." The easy answer was 'monster'. The more difficult one was what exactly he was made of specifically. He'd had no help with details from the mad doctor when he asked.
There is no way in hell Duvert was serious, though! he thought to himself as he wondered how to answer Rex's question. A dragon... even if it's just some freakish mix of DNA... that's just unbelievable.
Billy's sideways look made him nervous, but he was glad he hadn't been strangled by one of those tentacles yet. "I don't know what I am, really. A lizard of some kind... though the horns don't help my guesses." He paused before offering what he did know, his voice rising in panic as he went on. "There's probably a reason I don't look like any normal animal. I'm some kind of... of a mix. Not that it really makes that much sense to begin with. Duvert thinks I'll end up looking like a dragon, or something like that."
"At least both of you know what they're turning you into." He nervously flashed Billy a look of confusion. "Sort of...?"

"I don' know fer sure, no' really... bu' things wit' tentacles aint too common, aye?" Billy snickered. "A dragon, eh? I'da' though' he'd make y'a sheep! I suppose he's tryin' t'improve yer agression problem, eh?"

"Well... I think that you could take the doctor's word for it couldn't y-" He paused, htinking over what he'd just said, "Yeaaah... never mind. They are a pretty untrustworthy bunch, aren't they?"
Rex continued to look Zach up and down from across the table, though caught himself staring and averted his gaze down to a drop of barbeque sauce splattered on his plate. "A dragon does make sense, though. What else could it be?" He took another bite, running possiblities through his head.
"The only big clue to my animal is my uh, tail." The tufted stalk twitched attentively at the mention of it's name. "I'm guessing a lion. I don't know what else has a tail like that."

"No, not that many of those. I guess " he nodded to Billy. He smirked a little at the man's original guess. At least he would have known what he was. Aggression problem? He'd heard word traveled fast, but this was just absurd.
"I was scared. I had to ask..." He'd looked in the mirror and the horns had been the first thing to get to him. "You're right, maybe they are lying to me. And probably right about being a lion. I don't know of any other animal with a tail like that."
He frowned. "Only a matter of time before you'll find out for sure, huh?"

Billy stared down at his now empty plate, a tentacle still out and exploring it's smooth empty surface befor tucking away again, "Well, gents, it's been lovely, bu' s'time fer me t'go." That said, he stood with his tray to saunter away towards the exit. Nice chaps. Single serving friends. Company while eating. It worked. Without waiting for them to say good bye, he deposited his tray in the appropriate place befor lurching towardsthe double doors. A nice long quiet smoke in his room, that's what he needed. Clear his head. Maybe he'd visit Pyroth later...
