Mathias nodded taking another sip of his now cooling coffee as he contemplated where to take the conversation since they had managed to pass through that somewhat awkward hiccup. It hadn't been his intent - granted it never was his intent - but invariably, if he talked long enough, sooner or later his foot ended up firmly wedged sideways in his mouth.
Sometimes not having a completely working filter sucked.
"We moved too much for pets to really be a thing," Mathias offered. "But with my Dad usually being in the command level for base security, I got to hang out around the working dog kennels more than most people aside from their handlers. Some of them were the sweetest animals you ever met. Others had a bad habit of trying to chew through security fencing and had to get titanium fillings."
"I thought about adopting a retired one," He added as an after thought. "But, I live in a small two bedroom and that second bedroom is full of toxic paint and paint thinner, not to mention my landlord is not the pet friendly type so..." He shrugged. "Maybe one of these days if I save up enough and can move into a nice single level or something with a yard, I'll look into getting a dog."
That sounded a lot like... settling into a very.... grown up lifestyle and way too much space for a single man. So it wasn't really on the top of his priorities - hell, he didn't even have anyone using the bottom drawer of his dresser - had it really been that long since he'd have anything approaching a serious relationship?
Oof. Maybe Delilah was right - maybe he should start looking into an ACTUAL date soon.
