Well she doesn't like you. Delilah shot back quickly, smiling as she noticed Mercy's reaction. Hey, everyone had their own tastes. "You don't have to lie." She grinned. "Your face already betrayed you. He's not your type and that makes life easier for me. I have enough people asking me to hook them up with him that one less is a relief." "But thank you for that. I know it was a rather...odd request but it helps with a long-standing joke between us, at least until one of us...meaning he...ends up in a serious relationship again." Because she wasn't. "It also gets him to relax. We are biologically cousins but more like siblings. Both of us are only children. Both in a family with ungodly expectations. Kind of each other's sanity checks when things go crazy." Which seemed to be daily. "Anyway, enough about that nonsense. Now I'm rambling..."

Mercy snorted at Delilah's reaction to her own. "I mean, I can see why, he's certainly the type for some people, but yeah, he reminds me of my uncle, too much... muscle." As Delilah rambled Mercy just let herself lean lightly against the other woman and just listen, allowing her shoulder to press just lightly into the other woman's to allow some level of physical contact. Was it a slight invasion of space? Sure, but they'd just kind of piled in for the selfie and from the sound of things, Delilah needed the comfort. Especially when she started to say she was rambling. "That's fine," Mercy offered her a smile. "I mean you listened to me go on-and-on, the least I can do is listen too." She wondered if the other woman knew that she had an aura about her that just made people want to follow her every word?

"Your Uncle?" She asked, taken slightly aback that Mathias reminded her of anyone. Sitting back, she leaned into the couch not really noticing anything about the girl leaning against her. Delilah was lost in her head as she started running through something in her mind. "Six foot something. Built like a truck. Red hair like yours. Could be on the cover of a romance novel?" She was thinking back to a few functions she had been too and someone with hair like her own blazed into her mind. You didn't forget a face like that. Nor the abs, chest and butt when your 'sisters' followed him on social media.

Well, three out of the four of those sounded like her Uncle. Well - actually - all four did, but Mercy wasn't going to even address that last part. Was her Uncle Handsome? Yes. He'd gotten hit with a STRONG swing of the Haynes Curse, and Mercy wasn't sure if she felt more bad for him or herself on some days. Her Aunt Mary certainly didn't feel bad for him - given the amount of complaining she'd heard from her Aunt about his on-and-off paramours. "Mhm," Mercy said with a nod. "Lucas Haynes, or as he's known in some circles, the Nemean Lion - a nickname he absolutely HATES by the way. My aunt Mary uses it when she gets annoyed with him." "I'm actually surprised he's still boxing," She added softly. "I know his agency has begged him to stop. Too much a risk for their investment, but the one time they gave him a hard ban he got so depressed they changed their mind - something about how pouty was one thing - looking like someone had punted your puppy out the penthouse window was another." She stopped for a moment. "Sorry, that was... uhm... Anyway - yeah, that's him."

That nickname rang more of a bell than even his real name. So much so that Delilah snapped without thinking. "I knew it." She added, leaning forward. "The girls in the sorority adore his social media. A few of them are even part of his fan club and tried to go to some of his matches. In a disguise of course." She added the last part with an eye roll. Leaning back against the couch, she pulled up her phone and shot another message to her cousin. Guess who her uncle is?"You know, it's funny how fighting seems to get into someone's blood. Mathias is into MMA and an artist. He wants the later to be the more full time gig but will he ever stop fighting?" Casting her a look, she smiled. "When hell freezes over."

Mercy leaned back into the couch as Delilah leaned forward, snorting a bit at the mention of the other girls in the sorority. Of course they had, she shook her head and bit her tongue. Lucas had made his opinion on groupies clear - and she knew that anyone he dated would have to pass muster with his publicist and the agency. The last thing they wanted was some sort of sordid scandal. It really collapsed his dating pool, but most of his dating was for looks anyway at this point that she was pretty sure he'd given up on marriage entirely at this point. At least until he retired from the scene. "He's really not that impressive I promise," She said with a shake of her head. "But you're right, once they get the taste of blood it's almost impossible to make them stop." At least that was how Mary put it. There is no way in hell. came the reply.

Cocking a brow at her, Delilah leaned slightly more at an angle before her lips turned into an easy smile. "Ever been to one of his matches?"
Oh as family, it was very easy to say someone wasn't that impressive. Thing was, family went one way or another: all in or meh. Did Delilah light fight? Not at all. Did she want to support someone she cared about?
Very much so.
"They have some great people watching at the very least." She reached over, leaning a bit on Mercy to grab her tea cup. "Far more interesting than sitting through a stuffy charity event shaking hands as people suck up to you."
Taking a quick sip of her tea, she responded to the text with one word.

"Only local," Mercy admitted sheepishly. "I wanted to go to his big headliner in Vegas but my parents said no." She puffed her cheeks a bit. "Mary was even gonna teach me how to play poker but I suppose it wouldn't have been much fun since I'm still too young to actually gamble." At least for a handful more years yet. Stupid laws. "Granted, he was also supposed to be doing a shoot the day before to try and sell some new swimwear," She made a face. "Mary said the trip was all in all quite dull - for Vegas anyway." Second hand it still was more travel than she'd really done in the last five years. "But the crowds can be great, yeah," She nodded. "Much less stuffy. The last event I was at the most exciting thing that happened was two people wearing the same dress and that was apparently a scandal and a half... " She rolled her yes. "What's an MMA fight like?" She asked, tilting her head. "I figure those have to be even more... vibrant?" No #*$&#xin;g way! Seriously? Small World.

"Ever seen a video of roosters fighting each other?" Delilah smirked, sending her own response as she shot Mercy a look, not at all hiding her phone from the girl.
I know. Looks like the girls may have a replacement for you in the pipeline.
"Basically that but with less feathers. The crowd gets really into it all because one punch or kick or move and a person is potentially on the way to the ER. Fighters love to fight. Those watching it may be even more blood thirsty though."
"Also, Vegas isn't all that great. Sure lights and attractions everywhere but it costs twice as much as normal and you basically get attitude no matter where you go. If you have money and throw it around, you are a God. If you lose it all, you are a worm. The city is pretty two faced."
Just like some people.
"So, who is Mary?"

"Woof, that sounds brutal!" Mercy offered with a slight wince. "I'm surprised he doesn't look more roughed up, he must be a pretty decent fighter then." Oh thank God. I've actually debated jumping into the dating pool again - so not having to play scratching post might be nice."I mean, that makes sense," Mercy said with a nod. "It just sounds fun, but I get that it's kind of seedy and that's probably why Mary likes it." The question as to who Mary was made her blink for a second. "OH! Mary's my aunt," She said with a small laugh. "She does freelance journalism... actually I'm sure you've read some of her stuff if you've read the college paper at all - she does entertainment and nightlife. She's finishing up up her journalism degree at MU."

I'll believe that when I see it.
"Wait, she's at MU?" There was a moment where she did consider that there are some people who go back later in life to school but her gut just made her doubt it. "Mercy, for give me for asking but how old are you?"
Clearly old enough to drive but to drink? Correction, to buy a drink. Not that age mattered but when she thought of aunts and uncles, they were people her parents age. The way Mercy spoke, the were more closer to being cousins in age.
That was an interesting bubble bursting for her.
"Oh, and in truth, I don't care for the student news paper."

"Uhm, I turned 18 in April," Mercy offered. "Mary's... 21, and Lucas is 24." She added. "It's a really complicated and convoluted story - but, uhm, I never really knew my Grandparents - they passed away before I was born - but they had Lucas and Mary later in life, my Dad is the eldest by... a solid amount." He still refereed to his two siblings as his parents final act of insanity, but she decided to keep that one close to her chest at the moment. "I mean, you're not missing much," Mercy offered with a snort. "I mean she's not a bad journalist all things considered - she just prefers to do the entertainment beat - likes the free drinks." XP Brat"So, I take it he's calmed down?" Mercy asked nodding toward Delilah's phone. "He's pretty chatty. I figured him to be the more stoic type."

If she was 18 and her brother was, if she remembered right, slightly older than Delilah herself, the youngest that might put Mercy's parents were early 40s? It made her wince thinking of being nearly 20 and magically having two siblings.
"Props to your father for still deciding to have kids after watching another set grow up."
"Also, really, if you do ever go to another frat party, you are at least 20. I don't care who asks but don't tell them you are 18 and went to all all girls school. They will be on you like so fast you won't be able to blink."
Her question about Mathias though made her glance at the phone once and shrug.
"Stoic? Only in front of people he doesn't like. Honestly when he gets started, shutting him up is hard. He has zero filter and and will put his foot in his mouth so fast...." But there was a smile on her face as she glanced down and sent him an emoji of sticking out its tongue.
"I told him who your uncle was and that it meant when I graduated, if you rushed, the house had another body guard to go after. He said it was good because he was thinking about dating again. I told him I didn't believe him mostly because if he still is interested in a certain woman, it is going to blow up in his face."

"My Dad is something else," Mercy said with a laugh that barely contained a certain amount of pride in her father. "He busted his butt to make sure he could take care of my Aunt and Uncle and his own family. Mom helped when and where she could of course but...." She shrugged - her issue with her mother not something she really wanted to dig up at the moment, so instead she turned her attention to the words of advice and the tasty gossip. "I'll remember that," She said, tapping her temple. "It was bad enough tonight I don't even want to think how it could be worse." "Oh?" She offered. raising a brow. "I mean, good on him I guess - but if he's lovesick it might be best for him to get the explosion out of the way so he has a clear run-up. Nobody likes competing with the Canadian Girlfriend."

Chuckling, Delilah found herself relaxing with the red head beside her. It was easier because she wasn't talking about herself but about her cousin who honestly wouldn't care.
"Between you and I," She leaned her head back on the couch and looked up at the ceiling. "He struck out twice and got a foul ball on the third go." Where did the baseball reference come from? That was a new one for her.
"Thankfully she is real but given what I have seen and heard, she has very little interest in him because of his, our last name. My uncle left a nasty taste in her mouth for the Whites so I can't blame her."
Silently, she looked over at Mercy and shrugged. "But if he's serious for once, I'll support him and keep the hyenas at bay."
