The red-headed Haka dipped his head in silence to acknowledge Rei's words, his hands moving back to rest at the front of his kimono at the same instant once they had served their purpose of steadying the other Haka after his fall.

"You're absolutely welcome Rei-san..."

Boy oh boy... who would have expected that a simple trip to the Yakume Shoten to return a book he thought Toshi had accidentally left behind would evolve into first a scalding accident involving said Gehaka and then now, an encounter with Toshi's mother? This was truly turning out to be quite a day for the Fujimiya clan Haka.

"If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been in this particular business of yours?"

Aya inquired with interest as he directed an amiable smile back at the other Haka.

It had been an adventure for all concerned. Rei had never had this panicked of a day. It was -almost- amusing. It would be later, when he lay in bed laughing over it with his two gehaka. However, at the moment, it was embarassing.

"I've been in this business since I was a child." he admitted, running a hand over the worn shelving. "This shop belonged to my mother before me, and her mother before her." his smile was gentle, and his eyes stroked gently over the books. "Everything in this shop is in our blood, we Yakume's. And that includes Toshi. If he'd been born a haka, he'd be taking over this shop after me." his voice was dreamy, and he'd almost seemed to forget the other haka was there.

Toshi entered the shop, hand bandaged, and carefully picked up two cups of tea, placing them on a tray and wandering into the shop to find his mother and Aya-san. He tromped loudly down the aisle and coughed lightly when he discovered them, alerting them to his presence so as not to startle them.

Aya nodded his head a few times as he listened to Rei's brief account of the history of the shop. It was something that he could certainly identify with since he was the sole heiress to the family business and had to learn the ropes of the business at a very tender age.

It had always been an all too familiar dilemma with families when they discovered that the firstborn child was not a wingless Haka. Do the parents try for another child at a later date, or let the family business pass on with their last breath?

Given that pregnancy was a risky business that could possibly take its toll on the mother, not many would be willing to try. Aya was most certainly not in the position to judge Yakume Rei if that was an unmistakeable tone of lamentation in his voice.

Turning to Toshi who had seemingly appeared out of nowhere with 2 steaming cups of tea, Aya smiled softly at the young Gehaka before asking tentatively.

"Is your hand better now..?"

It was an innocent question all in all. Nothing that could possibly lead to the drawing of any conclusions linking both himself and Toshi. Still, why did he feel as though he was trying to hide something from Yakume Rei?

Rei smiled at his son behind the other haka's back. Toshi's eyes looked particularly bright. It seemed this young haka had made quite the impression on his son. He had wanted to try for another child... however, when the choice had come down to him or the baby he carried, his gehaka had made the choice for him, slipping him an abortificant in his tea.

That was most probably a crime, but he knew why they had done it, and loved his family too much to make a scene, or even punish them. They had made the decision he couldn't bring himself to.

The child that would have killed him had been a haka.

With a light sigh, he coughed. "I'll take my leave." he bowed politely to the younger haka, and vanished into the maze of bookshelves.

Toshi bowed until his mother had vanished, then smiled up at Aya. "My hand is fine, Fujimiya-sama." he said with a smile. "I thank you for your concern, and assistance." he bowed formally, somehow keeping a firm grasp on the tea.

He didn't have to turn his head to know that the Yakume clan Haka was leaving. Not when the older Haka had already announced his intentions in addition to the evident sound of footsteps padding softly into the distance, so he settled for a belated tilt of his head in Rei's direction before allowing pools of violet to settle upon Toshi's form again.

Had Rei noticed something about him? Aya couldn't help but wonder at the back of his mind. Rei's sudden decision to leave had seemed kinda... intentional. Then again, maybe he was looking too much into such a simple action.

The red-haired Haka concluded eventually as he allowed an even wider smile to curve his lips. A genuine one from his heart this time out of gratitude that the winged male standing before him was safe and relatively unscathed.

"That's good. A... are you busy at the moment? If not, would you care to join me for tea?"

Toshi smiled softly at Aya. "No sir, I'm not busy." he said, and glanced around. "Would you like to sit? We have a small area over here that would be comfortable for you." the yellow-haired gehaka pointed the way to a small window shelf covered in pillows. There would be enough room on the shelf for Aya to sit comfortably, he surmised. As for himself, he preferred floors to proper seats, or standing.

His eyes flicked over the haka. He checked for any sign that one of the books he'd left out had been tripped over, and caused any damage. An internal sigh of relief that this gentle haka seemed unaffected by any of the horrors of Toshi's organizational skills.

"Good..."

Came Aya's soft reply as he began to make his way towards where Toshi had pointed to. His heart had skipped a beat the moment the young gehaka had smiled back and indicated that he was not too caught up with his duties at the moment.

Now that was pretty strange, wasn't it? That certainly didn't happen whenever he was with his brother Itsuki or the other gehakas serving the Fujimiya household. Aya thought silently to himself while he settled himself onto the soft pillows.

Perhaps a visit to the doctor would be warranted within the next few days? Nah... maybe he should wait and see first.

Toshi bowed politely, pulling a small table over for Aya to be able to rest his tea on without worrying about it spilling and messing up his kimono. Setting the tea down on the table, he silently poured two cups of tea and lifted one, holding it out for the haka. "Are you a fan of books?" he asked, watching the haka with bright eyes. Hopefully he was, so they could compare authors. Toshi was always looking for more reccommendations.

He felt his stomach twist as he looked at those limpid violet orbs, admiring. Aya's mates were truly blessed with such a gentle haka as their husband. He was almost jealous of them, actually. Very few haka he'd met had been so gentle with him. he seemed to have some sort of haka irritant attatched to his skin. His mother had said it was because he was a bit too eager to please. He hadn't understood.

Aya accepted the proffered cup from Toshi's hands the moment it was held out for him, taking a quick whiff of the tea's aroma as he nodded once in response to the young Gehaka's question.

"I'm afraid I have to admit that I haven't had the time to pick up anything new from the bookshop lately given that I'm pretty tied up with work these days..."

The red-haired Haka offered sheepishly as he set his cup down on the table. Both his parents had cultivated the habit of reading in him since young, taking time off their busy work schedules to read to him, bringing him to the city library and encouraging him to read up on whatever topic that might have caught his interest.

Reading was something that Aya especially enjoyed whenever he had some time to himself and he was definitely more than willing to talk to Toshi about it over tea.

"What about you? Is there anything good that you'd like to recommend?"
PostPosted: Sat Aug 05, 2006 10:11 am

When the red-haired haka accepted the cup, Toshi lowered himself into a comfortable kneel at the haka's feet. "What do you do?" he asked, curious. "I mean, what is your work." he flushed, hating his mis-speak.

He loved books and numbers, and so his mother had taught him. He smiled faintly, remembering the quiet classes around a candle after his fathers had fallen asleep. His family was small, as his father was a minor haka, but it was close. His mother loved his husbands very much, and it showed in minor ways- the way everyone in the home was dressed well, and educated. Even in public his mother treated his entire family with respect.

He jerked back to attention at Aya's question. "Any good books? Well, what kind of books do you like to read?" he asked. The answer would tell him a lot about the haka, and would also help narrow down the book choices that the gehaka would recommend.

Aya lifted the cup to his lips and took a small sip of the amber liquid as he listened to the blond Gehaka's posed questions. Violet orbs were focused intently on the soft pillows beneath him while the Fujimiya clan Haka pondered over what he should tell Toshi.

It was not so much that he was ashamed of his own background or profession. What was the word for it again? Oh ya... conscientious. Aya usually wouldn't give a hoot as to what others thought about him since he was about as sociable as the statue situated right in the middle of the town square in Hanze and the only people he came into contact with were his business associates, the town council members as well as the members of the Fujimiya household.

If people wanted to stay at least a mile away from him, so be it. Things were far less complicated that way most of the time.

Aya was stuck this time round though. He didn't want to lie to or withhold anything from the other male. Yet for once, he was... concerned with regards to the outcome of the conversation itself.

"I... I run the Tsuki No Hana jewelry shop further down the street. It can get pretty hectic at times, especially with impending festivals since that's when most of the townfolk would come by to try to get gifts for their loved ones."

Aya chewed his lower lip nervously, not daring to direct his gaze at Toshi the entire time as he spoke softly. Setting his cup down on the table again, he willed himself to look at said Gehaka's direction, a wry smile on his face as he tried to assess his response to what he had just said.

There was still that bit about him being a member of the town council as well, but most people should be able to figure that out on their own given his unique family name. It was not like there's another Fujimiya residing in this town other than Itsuki and himself. Not as far as he could remember.

"Hmm... something fictious and with a good story. You know, with faeries and dragons... that kind of books..." Aya almost immediately added on.

Toshi watched with a sort of... awed fascination? as the haka moved... delicately. Everything Aya did, to him seemed like a sort of dance. He moved closer to the haka, almost wondering if he could absorb some of that grace and beauty through just sheer... nearness.

"The Tsuki no Hana?" he asked, and his nose crinkled a bit as he tried to place the shop. "OH!" he said, mind landing further down the phrase on 'Jewelry' and his eyes brightened. The shop with the pretties his mother had bought himself for his birthday last year. Toshi hadn't gone in, he'd gotten to stay outside because his father thought he'd knock something over. (( sweatdrop )) So by staying outside, he hadn't.

Instead, he had amused himself by tilting his head and watching the sparkles, like a little bird fascinated by a shiny something.

And that was the way his head was tilted now, watching Aya. It was fitting, he decided, that something so beautiful should be surrounded by things of beauty. Not that he'd ever admit to the haka that he found him beautiful. The knot in his stomach tightened and he smiled. "It's a beautiful shop." he said warmly, and nodded.

But on to more important things.

"Dragons and Faeries? Hmmm..." the gehaka jumped to his feet and fled down a corridor, disappearing into the old book room. "Dragons, Faeries, where did I put you?" he singsonged as he hunted them.

He could have sworn that his heart had been about to leap out of his body just before he directed his gaze in Toshi's direction to see how he was taking the truth that he was no ordinary Haka whom one could find on the streets of Hanze. His heart had nearly stopped the moment he saw the fascination reflected in the amber orbs of said blond Gehaka.

He wasn't afraid of him?

It was strange how something as simple as acceptance could put a small smile on his face. Aya mused inwardly to himself as he watched Toshi fled in the opposite direction, the other male's intentions as crystal clear as a cloudless sky from the little song that he was singing at the top of his voice.

Come to think of it, he didn't know what would become of him had he seen fear and avoidance reflected in Toshi's eyes back then. Best not to think too much about that, he concluded eventually with a slight dip of his head as he raised the cup to his lips yet again...
PostPosted: Tue Aug 29, 2006 6:32 am

Why would Toshi be afraid of him? Aya had never hurt him, or said anything remotely cruel. So Toshi wanted to please him. The gehaka really was a simple creature. Like a puppy, love him and he will love you back.

Finally, Toshi found his target. A fairytale book, elaborate in deep brown leather, with golden dragons stamped into it. The edging of the book's pages was a deep gold color, and There were small leaves on the corner of every page. He grabbed the book and hurried back to where he had left the haka, holding it out to him with a bright smile.

"I read this book as a child." he explained to Aya. "My mother would come into my room every night, and tell me about how, because I was a gehaka, I got to be the handsome hero. He'd tell me how wonderful it was that I got this place, and that he'd make sure my haka would be a prince too. He said, fairy tales never stay happy unless the princess has a prince's courage inside her too."

Setting down the now empty cup, Aya took the book that Toshi was holding out to him, a look of amusement on his face as he ran pale slender fingers over its cover while listening to the young Gehaka's account.

"That's a lovely analogy. When do you think I should return this to you by the way?"

The violet-eyed male purred as he smiled up at Toshi. Despite how his words might have come across, he wasn't patronising the winged male when he said that.

On the contrary, he found the Gehaka's words rather interesting in fact. Maybe that was why Toshi still possessed this child-like naivety of his. His family had nurtured and probably encouraged it with the way that he was brought up over the years.

"... I don't suppose you've found your prince yet hmm..?" Aya asked softly before he had even realised the slip of his tongue.
