Floodwater took her sweet time navigating away from the river she had been dozing by just moments ago. She could see a dark outline in the distance - a tree, she was pretty sure - and hoped it would provide some amount of shelter from the storm overhead. It was important not to panic, after all, she thought as she pushed aside the pangs of guilt that rose with each scream and cry to help. She had passed a number of rabbits both receiving and offering help, though - she knew there likely wasn't much she could do in that regard. She could wait by the tree and assist those who made it there. Maybe guide others nearby towards it. Yes.
Floodwater felt comforted by this plan until the sky itself seemed to - presumably out of sheer spite for all of rabbitkind - decide to tear open and smite the tree with a blinding light.
Her instincts told her to run - bolt as far away as possible and not look back - but she knew that the screams she heard very well could have been her, had she gotten to the tree any earlier. She had to go help.

Asher was hesitant to get too close to the tree as they closed the distance, nose stinging at the scent of fire on the air under the sweet smell of the storm. "Be careful!" He warned, wincing away from the branches and debris that still burned from the strike of lightning.
"Don't get--" Asher started to snap back at the rabbit who'd barked an order at them, exasperated. "What're you doing!" He went after her, only to be yanked back by his white companion at the deep creaking sound above them. With a crack, the branch came down. "Hoarfrost, let go! We've got to help her!"
Asher yanked himself free of Hoarfrost's teeth on his scruff, scrambling towards where the branch had fallen on Justice. "Hold on, we'll help. Don't worry!" Which was probably the absolute opposite of what Justice should do, because frankly, Asher wasn't sure how to move the branch without lighting his own feet on fire or something...

Hoarfrost growled after the doe who'd ran ahead to investigate. "The earth's burning and she's running off-- Asher!" Hoarfrost went after the young buck, chasing behind him. He'd barely managed to yank Asher out of the way as the branch came down. Well, that solved that. The doe was surely dead now.
... Or not.
"You can't help anyone if you're dead, Asher!" He bit out, following after him to the branch and the doe trapped beneath it. He fumed, tugging on his ear with one paw, and as Asher debated where to begin burning his fur off in the name of saving a pretty young doe, Hoarfrost bolted backwards. Before Asher could protest at his running away too much, he ran straight for the branch, jumping and spinning to kick it as hard as he could. If he could at least nudge the damned thing, the doe could crawl out.
Assuming something wasn't broken.
Well. They'd deal with that later.

As she ran, Paro began to wonder if she’d made the wrong decision. With her luck, probably. Still, she’d made up her mind and no amount of yelling was going to stop her as she bolted toward the tree. In the flickering light of the fire, she couldn’t quite make anything out. It was almost too bright to see clearly. And yet, there had to be something that could be done. Paro could see other rabbits converging on the tree as well, perhaps eager to help or simply curious. Vaguely, she knew that Justice, Asher and Hoarfrost were behind her – perhaps running after her. Maybe that was a good thing. Exploring the tree. Blink seemed to jolt back to reality, shaking her head a bit before focusing back on Buzz and Coy Koi. There still seemed to be an air of slight confusion about her as she looked around, and then peered over at the tree. “Oh,” she said softly, ears drooping. “I don’t know if I’ll be helpful there. But I can try.” Wc 171 total 216+138+191+235+171 = 951

Once they were all safely inside, Buzz was able to breathe and recollect his wits. It was hard to think on the run with danger looming overhead. The burrow was still intact, good. Dusty and the new buck seemed eager to go to the tree and help. The doe sounded reluctant and still looked pretty shaken from the whole ordeal. He didn't want anyone to feel pressured into going, especially her. "Maybe you'd like to keep lookout like Dusty did? In the tunnel near the entrance, out of the weather?" he suggested. Quick action was needed, so he decided he would sprint to the tree as fast as he could. The less time outside, the better. He turned to hastily address the others. "I'm going to the tree. Anyone is welcome to come but not obligated." With that, he bolted out of the burrow without looking behind or trying to stay in a group. Now that he'd had a little time to think, he realized that being spread out a bit was probably better. If lightning struck the ground maybe only one would perish instead of all. Dusty would be right behind him and probably the other buck too although he couldn't know for certain. He hoped the doe would stay behind like he suggested but again, couldn't know. Exploring the tree. Dusty was relieved to see his new friend and a couple others make it to safety. He hoped his shouts had been of some help. After a few dry minutes, Buzz announced his plan and took off in the blink of an eye. 'Well, okay then.' he thought 'It's now or never.' and followed suit. It wasn't hard to guess which path his large friend had taken as the tree was a literal straight shot ahead. Dusty wasn't the most athletic rabbit around by any stretch of the imagination, but he was full of adrenaline and made it to the tree quickly. Exploring the tree.WC: 322 TWC: 1,345

Eclipse felt himself tense up at the sight of a faint orange glow. And more thunder. His fur was soaked and really, could they just find some shelter? He glanced at the frightened form still cowering at his feet. With a huge sigh - that turned to a cough, because rain - he laid one black paw on top of the paler rabbit.
"Dude, get up. We need to find shelter. And not get any more wet." If that was possible.
Pippin glanced up at the dark rabbit. He shook his head, started to straighten... and cried out as another loud boom of thunder struck.
"I-I can't... g-get my legs to work!" Where was Pumpkin when he needed his best friend?!
Greaaaaat. Eclipse frowned, then tugged at one of those brown ears. "I will drag you. If I must."
Whether it was this threat or another clap of thunder, Pippin jumped up and clung to Eclipse, letting the darker rabbit start to lead him... somewhere.

Heart still beating like a hummingbird's wings, Rain Drop approached the tree with caution. Movement caught her eye and she quickly hopped towards it. Only to discover another rabbit that had come to investigate and try to help.
"Did you hear a scream, too?" She asked what she thought was a grey bun?
Another clap of thunder made her cringe and hop a tiny bit closer to the stranger. Because safety in numbers, right? And then there was the strangest sound of splintering and popping and Rain Drop seriously began to reconsider her choice to come and try to help.
"W-What was that?!"

Rumble watched as the massive tree first lit up with a bright flash of light and then went down. It was a huuuuge sound! Like the biggest thump he had ever heard! "Woah!!" He yelled out, instinctively blocking the kits from what felt like a physical wall of sound. Bumble tried to jump out from behind his dada and see too. "I wanna see I wanna see!!" He rolled out and stared at the tree through the blinding rain. "Woooooow! Dad! Can we go look at it can we?? Can we??!!" Rumble laughed and looked as excited as his kid. "Of course!!" The father and son turned and started hopping through the wet grass to check out the massive thing. Whisper shook her head and followed along at her own pace, shaking her head at her clueless family members. "No one else must have heard that awful scream then I guess? No? Great let's just go explore that. Brilliant plan." She whispered into the wind and rain, knowing full well no one heard her but feeling the need to express this ridiculousness anyway. ((Sandy has arrived to investigate things)) Sandy had made his way to the mess this storm was making. He had noticed the rain flying in from across the dales but wasn't very interested in being in it until the light. the flash, and the crack/boom of a fallen tree. Now he was interested. What had caused that? What did it look like? It almost sounded like the tree had screamed on its way down. Was that even possible? Sandy needed to know the answers to these questions. So here he was, hopping through soggy grass and pelting rain, wind swirling around him, and it was all very uncomfortable. But he needed to know. He picked his way as carefully as he could through the storm until he was close to the top branches of the huge tree. He kept well away from the hot orange flames still smoldering at its tips. It didn't look alive... and he was pretty sure trees couldn't scream but something had made a noise. He carefully poked at the charred bark to see if anything would happen. Rowan tried hard to keep his wits about him in spite of the deafening booms that shook through the otherwise eerie silence of the night. He was on a mission, one he had to complete. He was pretty sure someone was hurt and he would hope that another bun would do the same for him if the situation were reversed. The buck slid to a stop near the fallen tree. He had to take a moment to recover his breath, having spent probably more energy than he should have trying to reach the place in a timely manner. He noticed then that part of the light that had guided him had actually been fire. Not good. He did his best to search around cautiously, looking for the source of the scream. Maze on a mission. Maze picked her way disdainfully through the muddy ground, narrowing her eyes against the wind and rain and causing her to look even more garish than usual. The way her body disappeared into the dark and her white head glowed every time a flash lit up the sky… well she made quite a picture. She smirked, it was rather pleasing. The King had sent her out on this mission to investigate the storm, making sure it was nothing the army or Bramblefell need prepare for. The rumbles from the thunder had been rolling through the forest of Tanglewood for some time. Mostly she had seen it to be rather pointless, just a nasty storm is all. Nothing that could affect the glory of Bramblefell so far away, even if it did sweep through the Tanglewood. However, this tree posed more investigation. She well knew the sounds of screams and she knew she had heard a scream as that tree came down. Maze came upon the fallen, smoldering log that had once stood tall and proud, making sure to avoid any other rabbits nearby. With a flick to shake off as much water from her ears as possible, she bent low and tried to peer beneath the massive branches and see into the dark underbelly of the smoking wood. Justice rolled her eyes as the words "be careful" clung to her much like the downed branch held her captive. She had been careful. She knew what she had been doing. She had been trying to save lives. The whole thing of it was, that a branch fell on top of her. s**t happens. The sky was obviously mad at her, for whatever reason and was....punishing her. Appropriately.
She still hated it.
Honestly she wasn't expecting the help. Nor was her dignity wanting to get help in the first place. But the sliver of her that was hoping to live? To help the world once again? Could care less about her pride. She wanted out. She slumped as the weight on her back got to be too much.
It was no use. She wasn't going to survive.
Justice closed her eyes and was just about to accept fate when she felt a rough kick to her hind. Making her instinctively make a forward leap. That swift motion was enough to scrape her side, but it was also enough to set her free. She shook off her fur and stared back at whatever rudely hit her and the branch...and paused. It was that white rabbit from before! The one who said that the sky was angry! She stared in shock for a few brief moments before nodding. "T-thanks." She looked towards the sky before hobbling out of the way of another potential branch. "I owe you my life." Where....Was the other guy? "Is your friend safe?" Was he his friend? The two knew each other by name, it seemed. Exploring the tree.
Koi looked over to blink, his ears twitching. "You don't have to help!" he enthused, prodding her over to the burrow that their dutch companion had offered so graciously. "You can stay there, it's safer!" He beamed at her in an attempt to be as supportive as possible. "If you don't know what you're doing you could get hurt and wind up in a buncha trouble! That would be no good!" He shook his head. He didn't exactly know what to do either...which didn't bode well. But! He was sure he could watch over himself. He had been traveling around enough to have wits enough to survive!
He nodded towards the hospitable buck. "I'd be glad to be of some help, even for a bit!" They were stronger together than separate after all. Shaken, but bolstering up enough courage, he raced towards the chaos at the burning tree. It had taken him some time--the others were all so fast! But when he got there...it blew him away. Rumbles and flashes of light were setting the stage to tree bits flown everywhere. He had thought that just the tree had been on fire. But no. The ground and bits that had fallen were scarred and actively burning too. Scary. He trembled before he tried to calm himself.
If he was scared, then the bun that screamed a few moments ago was probably terrified too! Koi didn't want to think of the...other sorts of things that could have happened to them. He too, started to dart around from bit to bit, searching for anyone in need of help all the while staying close to the buck that he had recently met.

Mud nodded agreeing that he was overreacting. He wiped big drops of tears away from his eyes. "No there is nothing special in my burrow, I suppose we should try to get out of the rain." That was when the crack and boom hit so loud it shook the ground under muds paws. "That sounded close did you hear that?" He started to move the way cautiously curious to see what happened.
peeking through the grass he was met with the sight of a burning tree, was there someone under there? He heard lots of crackling as the flames roared in the tree "Hello? Is anyone in there?" He approached it tentatively trying his best to watch his steps and make sure he wasn't stepping on anything that was smoldering. "Hello?" He called again into the tree as he searched. Nest had been hiding in the safety of his burrow during the commotion. He had ignored the cries for help, instead choosing to categorize his haul and put things in the piles they belonged to. He wasn't looking to be a hero or looking to save anyone. So he kept to himself as the storm raged on.
Once he finished sorting his items out he peeked out of his burrow watching as the light flashed brightly across the sky. He watched the lightning arc down and strike a tree in the middle of the dale. Quickly it caught on fire and nests eyes lit up, he loved shiny things, and the fire was just that. He had never seen this bright shining red light. He didn't know what it was but he knew that he HAD to have it.
So just like that, he darted out toward the tree. He did his best to find the thicker patches of grass so while the rain poured down on him he didn't get completely soaked. Finally, he reached the area where the beautiful light was coming from. He was first shocked by how hot the light was, he hadn't even gotten all the way up to the tree when the heat hit him like a wave. He paused for a second before slowly approaching the tree and attempting to collect some fire. "OW" he shook his paw and stuck it in his mouth. The shiny was dangerous. Maybe there was a better way to trap it he just had to figure it out.
