"Nessy?" Oh, like the Loch Ness! "That's actually pretty badass. You should use that as a nickname! I don't think badass nicknames are flirting."

Probably.

Were they?

Anser moved on from that train of thought, nodding when Pendour mentioned that she had seen some of the Negaverse senshi, too. Of all the ones she ran into, the senshi were the nastiest so far. There was that one senshi that used some stupid power on her and Cybele and turned them against each other. There was that other one with dreads that slammed her head against the door or... something. Admittedly, everything was pretty foggy after that...

But their agents were also pretty awful.

"The Negasenshi are assholes. I hate all of them. Never ran into one that shows any, like, regret," huffed Anser, crossing her arms. "At least I've run into agents with remorse. Still villains though."

She tilted her head a bit.

"He sounds awesome! But what do you mean about mostly?"

Anser's enthusiasm, in this case, did not make Pendour feel so much better about the situation. Her smile stretched a little thin as she said, "It's pretty, isn't it? And Earth's Pendour is in the UK, so it's almost makes sense. Well, until an actual knight from Loch Ness shows up."

That was a nice thought, and she let herself linger on it for a moment. She'd seen at least one magical creature up on a wonder before. Maybe there was a sea serpent somewhere up there, wound around a Code crystal, or a plesiosaurus.

The comment about the senshi was really a bit too much but Pendour took a quick breath to make sure she wasn't rude in turn. "I think they're all the same amount of broken," she said, carefully, "Um, except the monsters, maybe."

Which brought it all back to her eye. She was still turned half away, hiding her face more important than keeping up eye contact at the moment. "I still couldn't dodge when it mattered," she said, her voice smooth but very soft. "And I'd have to learn again, now."

Could there be a Loch Ness Knight? Anser's eyes widened as she considered this. She guessed if Pendour was an actual Earth location and yet it was also a Knight of Neptune, there could be...

How did knights work, anyway? How did they end up with Earth names? Did a lot of space name their stuff after Earth, or did Earth just name a lot of their stuff after space? And if it was the second one, how did they not know about it? Was it lost history? She loved lost history, it made her think of comets--

"The monsters are super broken," agreed Anser, because that was definitely true. She hated the monsters the most, more than the broken-bodied senshi and their evil agent counterparts. There was no chance of remorse for a monster. They just snatched starseeds, souls, and munched like it was in their right because it wasn't like they had any good thoughts--

Being told Pendour couldn't dodge when it mattered drew a snort from Anser.

"Bah. You can learn again and you can be better. What's done is done. You come back and kick their a** more the next time. Or, uh," she squinted, "block their a**. I guess. Either way."

The monsters confused Pendour most of all. She knew some people thought it was a simple thing, that they were like a china plate too broken to be fixed, something that just had to be thrown away no matter how precious it once was. That was a plate, though, not a living, breathing thing, and extending the metaphor, there wasn't any simple trash can. There was just breaking things further.

There was breaking things so much that they couldn't live, but then what would happen to all that sickness inside them? It all left her just avoiding the monsters.

The way Anser just snorted at her did hit a little bit hard, did send her looking down and picking at her beads. She hadn't really expected the girl to understand, didn't really want her to understand, but well, she had asked. Then, maybe she was getting a little sad. She knew people didn't like that, so she did what she always did when people told her things would get better. She nodded. "Yeah," she said quietly, and then louder. "Yeah."

Then, for something else to talk about, she tried to feel for any auras in the distance. There weren't any, which was very much a relief. "I don't think the monsters came out tonight," she said.

Pendour didn't seem very confident. The tone of voice was familiar.

She did the whole yeah and then a louder yeah, though, so maybe she was more confident now than she was before. That was how it worked in movies when people got more confident in themselves. Anser would just take it for what it was, really.

And what it was... well, it was a quiet night, she guessed, with a knight that was apparently familiar with her brother.

Damn.

"Yeah, no damn monsters," said Anser, with a quiet pout. She was looking forward to kicking some monster a** tonight. Though maybe it was a good thing that there weren't any out there, honestly... It meant that no one was terrorizing the people in the area. And Pendour could do her whole ... not fighting thing. "I guess that means everyone here is safe! Including you. To not fight."

To this, Anser placed her hands on her hips and nodded enthusiastically.

Pendour did notice the way that Anser pouted, saying it was a quiet night, which was another thing that seemed odd. She could understand where she was coming with her philosophy and all, her thinking that fighting back would help end things faster, but she didn't understand why someone would want to risk losing their souls or their fingers when they could talk instead, or look up at the stars.

Then, there were a lot of people in this war and it this world that Pendour did not understand.

"That's good," was all that Pendour said, and when Anser finally smiled she smiled back.

It had been a good night, she decided. It hadn't been such a quiet one that it had been boring, or where she'd been left along with too many thoughts. That was something she could thank Anser for.

"I think I might head home, then," she said, "But I'm glad I came out. Meeting you was nice." It was a little confusing, too, but that was the way of things, sometimes. It didn't stop Pendour from smiling at the younger girl.

"I'm glad I got to meet you too!" chirped Anser, even if she was still a bit baffled by the fact that this woman didn't want to fight.

But other than her lack of fighting spirit, she seemed like a cool dude. And she also had a wonder that sounded pretty neat. And she was haunted by the prior Pendour, on Pendour's wonder, who was apparently an a*****e, which might explain some of her behaviour... maybe...

She was just taking a shot in the dark.

Pendour was friends with Encke though, so--

She thrust out her hand once more. "Have a good night, Pendour! Since you know Hermano, I think we'll meet again!"

Pendour gave Anser a final handshake. That was a simple thing to do, simpler than talking about the past or trying to find common ground with someone who was disappointed that there wasn't something around to hurt.

Still, she found herself smiling gently, not turning away as quickly as she could. There were a few things that they could agree on, a few important things. Chaos was terrible. Encke was lovely. Those were true things that they both could see.

Did that mean they were friends now?

Pendour couldn't tell, but she did give Anser's hand a squeeze before she stepped back, one with feeling, her grip not quite as gentle as her words. "It was nice to meet you, too," she said. It was true. Pendour didn't lie, not about things like that.

"Stay safe, okay?" she said, and then she turned back to her own path.
