Dramatic Marshmallow

It was blissful relief. It was warm and gentle and wonderful.

Noah felt Ellis' hands slip free of his, but they didn't go far. The touch of them on his chest and then sliding upwards to the back of his head made him giddy, and Noah raised his other hand so that they almost mirrored each other. His own hands became a little more steady, cradling Ellis' face between them, his thumbs skimming his jawline.

Possibly he should care that anyone could walk by, but other people were the last thing on Noah's mind. He felt the slightest parting of lips against his own and inhaled a breath that made his chest surge with feeling, Noah's pulse quickening, adrenaline whispering in his heart.

It wasn't anything dramatic, and yet it felt overwhelmingly significant. Noah rested his forehead against Ellis' and felt felt the other leaning into him, pressing together. The brush of lips with every word spoken was enough to send his heartbeat into overdrive, soft and gentle and so very Ellis.

Noah felt a grin dawn irrepressibly on his face, lips curving against Ellis'. "Yeah?" he said, feeling unreasonably smug, but also warm and fluttery and happy. "Good. But..."

Noah's hands moved, lifting from Ellis' face to slide down to his waist, settling there. He was entirely within Ellis' space now, hopefully without overwhelming, pressing gently forward.

"I think I need to try again," said Noah, "You know. For science. It's always good to get second results. Just in case."

He leaned forward - it didn't take much movement, honestly - and caught Ellis' mouth again with his own, with a little more confidence and a little more firmness this time, one arm sliding around Ellis' waist to hold him close. Never too much - hopefully - but with a frank determination that said, very clearly, just how much he had wanted to do this and how much he liked how it felt.

It was strange to him how almost-touching could fill him with so much more anxiety than the actual touching; instead of waiting on the other side of the ice, gasping for breath, he was plunging into the warmth of the sun - and that sun was named Noah.

Though a peace began to settle over him, it didn't stop the way his cheeks flushed when Noah's arms fell to encircle his waist. It was a testament to how pleased he was, however, that the smile that those heated cheeks framed was honest and content, like a lazy cat on a summer afternoon. They had broken the ice and he was pleased where he stood, pressed against the firm chest of a boy not much taller than he but incredibly stable despite it.

"For science," he echoed approvingly as he nodded his head just-so in approval. This time he tilted his face to the side fractionally before their lips connected and as one strong arm slid into the dip of his back, he arched away from the tree and into Noah's embrace. One slender hand slid up from where he had braced it at the base of the other man's head, instead choosing to trail it up beneath the dark locks. His fingers splayed against the back of his head and he held Noah close like that, parting his lips against the firm kiss and drawing in Noah's breath as his own.

He did not know where his heartbeat began and where the other man's ended but he could feel them both pulsing wildly where their sternums were crushed into one another. A low, pleased purr rumbled at the base of his throat as he realized that Noah was no less affected by their proximity and the hand he hadn't lodged within his shorter locks slid slowly down his neck and lay flat against the space just beneath Noah's clavicle. Beneath his palm, he could feel that heartbeat pulsing and it made him smile into his lips, forgetting the people and even the bunnies he had been promised.

He felt a thrill of mingled relief and joy as Ellis leaned into him, into the kiss, without hesitation, both of them leaning against each other, Ellis pushing away from the tree and into Noah's arms instead. He felt fingers against the nape of his neck and then sliding through his hair, and that sent a shiver down Noah's spine, his heartbeat wild against his chest.

As Ellis' lips parted against his own, Noah slid his other arm around his waist too, both now wrapped securely around the slender figure pressed against him. Fingers curled in the fabric of Ellis' sweatshirt, holding on, and Noah pushed the edge just a little farther, deepening the kiss with a fraction more passion now, a cautious flicker of tongue. It was a tight grip but not a controlling one; he could feel a throaty murmur against his lips, and then a hand pressing against the hollow of his throat, pulse wild in response.

He was stupidly, ridiculously smitten, that much was very obvious. This beautiful, sweet, kindhearted redheaded forest nymph was going to be the death of him.

Noah eventually - and reluctantly - pulled back after what seemed like an age, his eyes still closed, his breathing labored. He didn't pull away, but mimicked what Ellis had done earlier and rested his forehead against the other's, trying to get his breaths under control.

"Okay, so," he said, in a slightly hoarse voice. His lips moved tenderly against Ellis', a light kiss between the words, barely skimming. "Science agrees. I like kissing you."

Another kiss, still gentle, but brief. "A lot."

Ellis was lost in a mix of warm arms, racing pulses, and a teasing, flitting tongue that darted against his own so suddenly that he wasn't even given the chance to try and trap it. He was so caught up in every point that they touched, lost in the feel of being held close, that didn't know if he was even remembering to breath. When, at last, Noah pulled his lips away with some force, it left him winded and panting softly with a chest that rose and fell against the other's. Yet even his winded lungs couldn't erase the wide smile on his face and the flush in his cheeks seemed to have dissipated as he lost himself little by little in this boy he realized he had become to enamored with.

"Mmm?" he echoed as Noah's lips skimmed along his own, causing his eyes to lull and the smile he wore to dim to something lazy and pleased. The words made him laugh, soft and gentle, as if anything too loud might break the spell of the moment they had stolen for themselves. He felt warm and contented, comfortable.

"Well, that's good," he mumbled back against the seeking lips, "because I'm pretty sure I like kissing you a lot."

He pulled back slowly from where their heads were leaned into one another but did not unwind his fingers from where he had threaded them through Noah's short hair. He felt drunk on the affection and knew that he was becoming so quickly enamored with Noah that he was letting things progress a little too fast maybe. Yet, he found it hard to care when this man had been nothing but affectionate, kind, and utterly concerned for his well being from the moment they had tumbled into one another at the park. Was there more to him that he should get to know? Sure, but right now he felt like he'd needed this moment. They could work on learning more about each other and everything else soon.

"Thank you," he said gently as he dipped forward and pressed an affectionate kiss against the corner of Noah's lips. "Today has honestly been amazing and that's all thanks to you."

He was feeling particularly satisfied by the breathless way in which Ellis collapsed against him, their chests rising and falling in tandem, both of them flushed and happy. Noah was smiling stupidly, unable to stop himself, his arms still around Ellis' waist.

This was so addicting. And dangerous. And a lot of things. Ellis was doing that thing where he was murmuring against Noah's lips, and this was a thing that was making his heartbeat erratic, because there was something so intimate and affectionate about it.

He lifted a hand and ran it through Ellis' hair, pushing back some of the red locks from his reddened face and letting his fingers trail gently down the curve of his cheek. "I'm pretty sure a massive part of today being amazing has to do with you, red." Noah tugged at a stray strand playfully, then dropped his hand so that he could wind his arm back around Ellis' waist, fingers linked together at the small of his back. "You're basically incredible. I don't know how I managed to find you when you're unattached, because that's a mystery to me, you're too wonderful."

Wasn't this how all great things started? Moving too fast was always a concern, always a niggling thing in the back of someone's mind when they were interested in someone, but Noah was of the opinion that if it worked, it worked. Some people worked better fast, some people worked better slow. It differed from person to person, after all; and he had always been the sort of person to dive headfirst into things, so this was no exception.

Noah let out a long breath. "Okay, as much as I want to stay right here and kiss you more, we should probably finish our date."

He paused.

"But you should kiss me again," he said. "Just for, you know." He was fighting a smile. "Science reasons and all that."

Unattached.

A tiny flicker of guilt fluttered through his chest as he thought of his best friend. What mess had they caused of their relationship now? It was hard to say because he had never really gotten a chance to talk about it after a single drunk night. He was always busy, or Pie was, and their lives had just been getting more and more complicated as they spun away from each other. It was that guilt that had caused him to push others away, though, and for once he refused to let himself be victim to it. He deserved to be happy, too.

"I don't know what you see in me but," he smirked, squashing down that flicker of guilt and the weight it held on his heart, "you can keep saying all of those things. I like it."

It was easy to forget the worries with the way Noah trailed his fingers over his cheek and how perfectly his twined fingers settled against the small of his back. He wanted to just stay there, too, wrapped in comforting arms and sinking all his worries and fears into Noah's skin but he knew that this was not really the place to get accustomed to one another this way, nor the time.

"Oh, right, for science," his face became serious as he nodded at Noah then broke into an overjoyed, pleased smile. It was too hard to be serious, even if he was just pretending. The redhead leaned forward and pressed a soft, gentle kiss against Noah's lips; it was quick and fleeting, a placeholder for the next time. And the next time after that. With great reluctance, he slowly dropped his hands from where he was keeping Noah anchored against him and let one of them trail down the length of his arms. reaching behind himself, he dislodged Noah's grip and slid his fingers into his palm instead.

When he stepped back, regret filled him as the cooler air rushed into the space between them but he smiled none-the-less. It gave him something to look forward to, at least. His fingers squeezed as he turned and pulled Noah into step after him, casting him one last bright-eyed glance over his shoulder with a knowing smile.

"C'mon then, to the bunnies."

"I mean, I could extol your very appealing virtues for you, if you want," said Noah loftily. "But I think I'll wait until our next date for that."

It was a little presumptuous to assume a second date, but the way that Ellis was looking at him made Noah feel pretty confident that there was going to be one. That beautiful smile that broke out a second later and was then subsumed in the feel of his lips against his once more, Noah giving a small hum of pleasure.

He let out a melodramatic sigh as Ellis' hands slid away and then his own were moved for him, Noah raising his eyebrows. But he felt warm fingers against his own as Ellis took his hand, and Noah's emotions went back to being full of warm fuzzies that he was pretty damn certain were going to overtake him at some point.

He regretted the cool air between them, but the smile that Ellis gave him was good enough to make up for it. Noah's fingers curled around the ones tangled with his, falling into step beside him.

"To the bunnies," he said.

And more of you.
