Sometimes, Castor reflected, his ideas were half baked. It was very possible, likely even, that this living statue, this guard was meant to keep whatever was in the chest out of anyone's hands not because it had value or was powerful, but dangerous. But he knew from experience, such things never remained sealed forever, and only served to stall the inevitable. You couldn't contain Chaos, just as you could not do so with order.
The magic ended by what he guessed was a safeguard- and it made fear race up his spine. Scylla, Celsus, and Himself were all fairly powerful in their own rights- and to have their magic, along with that Tortuga and Lacerta also likely feeling that dispel?
The figure wanted to stand between them and that chest- So be it.
"Alright then." He sucked in a breath, the air chilling around him suddenly as his power rose, washing over him and covering him in a skin that felt more natural than it should have. His royal form taken and his wings fanning out, a weak but slightly effective shield for the others to move and take defense for a moment while he readied himself.
"You making it so I can't have something just gets me more curious rocky." He said, eyes fixed to the figure.
"I'll try to draw it's attacks now!" He yelled out. "Try to focus on getting that chest- whatever is inside, it doesn't want us to have." He grinned. "Besides, I should stick to what I do best right?"
The armor formed across his body, thick, crystalline and cold. His hand curling into a fist he charged, jumping up to the statue's face, wings open, trying to keep it's line of sight as limited as possible.

So far it seemed like everyone was holding their own. Lacerta had continued to throw the odd rock that she could find at her feet towards the statue or the chest. She didn't want to lose the protection that the spectral owl was providing and yet she yearned to do more. Was it just coincidence that as she thought of trying to do more that the battle seemed to stall for a moment? The burst of wind that emitted from the statue's spear tip had the effect of causing Lacerta to brace against the blast by throwing up her arms and ducking her head downwards. When the attack was over Lacerta looked up grimly, not knowing what she'd find.
The first thing that registered to the redheaded senshi was that the protection that Celsus had provided had disappeared. It seemed as if all magic had ceased to function. It was eerily quiet to moments ago. Lacerta took in the group and felt the pull of fatigue weighing on her but gamely picked up yet another rock. If she was reduced to throwing rocks in this battle then that is what she would do unless someone needed healing. Grimacing with the effort the senshi of bandages let loose with another thrown rock and winced as it fell just inches shy of the chest.
So throwing rocks seemed to be out. It was then that the power signature of one of the group rose higher and Lacerta glanced up as Castor transformed once more. Thinking now was as good as a time as ever she moved to follow the instructions that he'd spoken. As she had not moved from her previous position she was game to try and get to the chest from behind the statue if need be.
Her mind was weighing the pros and cons before she aborted her thought process and inched closer towards an angle that would have her approach the chest and its plinth from behind. Castor would distract the statue but would the rest of the group fair better in their joint efforts? There was only one way to find out. Pushing herself to stand upright Lacerta grabbed one more rock from the ground as a backup weapon and began to slowly slink towards the center of the room and the prize in question. Her gaze flicked constantly to the statue; ever wary of the sharp bladed spear that the guard wielded.
"Got it!" Tortuga shouted back to Scylla as he did his best to keep a hold on the statue while avoiding the striking spear and the giant tentacles that exploded from the ground. He and Celsus physically grappled with the living stone as the others fought from a distance, not that Tortuga really had time to look around. They needed to take this construct down and soon, there was only so much dodging he could do and it became disturbingly clear that the stone moved much faster then he could.
The squire was driven back by the spear and the wind it generated. It sent him tumbling, adding bruises on top of the slices he sported from the spear. Nothing seriously damaging just annoying and most definitely not anything he couldn't patch up himself once they were done with this. Even so, Tortuga climbed to his feet wearily, feeling more drained then the scuffle explained. He watched as the statue re-positioned itself protectively in front of the chest, the room around them shaking, and lash out once more with her spear. Castor was right! It was protecting the chest and what ever was in it.
"Its the chest!" His shout echoed around the room even as he grabbed some of the scattered debris and tried to knock the chest from its pedestal. Getting close to the statue wasn't a great idea right then, she wielded her spear with wicked speed.

In this moment Scylla was glad that her magic was ranged; the group went flying backwards; she would have tried to catch them, but the arms that left their assault to go seeking new targets were suddenly, and quite distressingly... gone. The shudder that ran through her spine was apprehension at its very finest. Scylla took a moment, from what she considered to be a safe distance, to take in the situation and realign- ow.
The light blinded her, and she blinked against the light, reaching out to try and find a surface, as the constant onslaught of shaking room kept her footing off-balance. The statue was still moving quickly, however; she was still a threat. She had to mitigate it- somehow. "Castor!" she yelled, as the Prince leaped at the statue- "get her arm!" If he could do something with that crack her tentacles had left....
And they had only left a crack. Scylla had relied too long on 15-foot meaty death-fingers being her primary form of assault. Though if they had left only a single crack? She wasn't thinking her fist would do much better. Castor, on the other hand, was covered in ice armor, and had wings. Shaking off the feeling of tired- because she didn't have time to indulge herself- she reached out to her homeworld, feeling along that thin, distant skein.
Go for the chest, Elzo had yelled, but why not try again for both? She'd not had long with her last attack, so as long as her power complied- she called out to her power again, thrusting it out, more controlled and tight this time. "Scylla's Hunger!" One tentacle for the chest, smashing down with all the force she could muster for it- and the other going for the statue, intent on grabbing her neck, or her arm, or something, and pulling.
Meanwhile, the shaking temple cost Scylla her balance at last, and she let herself fall, plopping down on the floor and focusing on her powers- control, and as much damage as she could pull off.
In the chaos that followed, Celsus was dimly aware that this was not how he had planned on spending his day, especially because Scylla's tentacles were whipping around violently and the crash and clang of the figure's movements was loud in Celsus's ears.
He clenched the whip tighter around the statue's neck, and heard a small crack as marble splintered but a second later Celsus was staggering backwards with a gasp, chest rising and falling, a hand raising instinctively to block out the white light that burst in front of him. He hadn't lost his footing, but he felt drained all the same, in spite of only having used a small burst of magic to try and protect Lacerta from the blows.
Achilles, his owl, had disappeared now, fizzling into thin air. Celsus dragged in an unsteady breath, then shook the whip off, the golden coins on his uniform jingling. He could only barely hear the shouts from the others, hardly registered that Castor was flapping around in full prince mode. His green eyes flickered momentarily towards Tortuga, pelting something at the statue, and then to Lacerta, inching towards the chest, trying to get in from behind.
A tentacle whipped beside him, Celsus sidestepping away from Scylla's attack, and wound the cat tails of the whip around his hand, tugging it experimentally tight and hearing the snap of the cords as they straightened. His gaze went from the crack in the soldier's arm, to the slightly crumbled legs, and then to Castor, leaping up and punching down, and at the same time, Celsus dived.
One arm moved forward, as fast as a pitcher's throw as Celsus skidded to his knees, bending back, and the whip whistled violently through the air, the many tails of it aiming for the statue's weakened legs. As soon as they wrapped around them, momentum propelling them with snapping, air cracking sounds, Celsus yanked, as hard as he could.
If they couldn't take her out, maybe they could just take her down.

The forces working against it were too great; every little effort to take the statue down culminated in just that. She fought until the end, with her impassive face; even Castor's boost of power or Syclla's second attack only battered her. She took the damage, though, and fended off what she could--for the chest.
Because, despite it all--despite Celsus and Tortuga and Lacerta's careful planning, she was resilient, but the combined efforts of the five eventually left her crumbling. Her leg shattered and she fell to the ground, but she pushed herself up. Her arm cracked so much that the spear fell from her hand. She reached for it with the other hand, but the trembling of the ground made her fall to her knees.
The statue tried to pick itself up again; it reached for its staff and slammed the tip into the ground, sending another shock wave through the temple. Dust and debris fell from the ceiling but it knocked everyone to the ground.
Suddenly, their rings illuminated. A burst of red appeared in Celsus' ring, Castors' glowed blue, Tortuga's yellow, Scylla's white, and Lacerta's gray. The colors brightened the room and reflected the pale white surface of the statue; suddenly, it exploded. Shards of marble shot in all directions and the statue dissipated into dancing orbs of light.
The room was strangely still, but the battle was over, and they had survived...and now, the gems in their rings glistened with vibrant color.
Though they had a few seconds to examine their ring, their peace was short-lived. The floating white orbs began to move, bobbing up and down as if they'd been caught like leaves in the waves. Their course was unpredictable at first, and then they began to spiral around the group. Slowly, at first, and then the speed picked up. They were not tangible, they could not be touched or grabbed but they passed around the room in a hurricane of light, blurring vision and trapping everyone within it.
The chest burned with a harsh white light. It was enveloped, and then, the chest popped open.
The orbs crackled in the air and the wind from their moment was almost biting; a shrill screech echoed around them.
The hurricane was closing in on them, and the ground below was glowing white. It felt strange, like the floor was sinking. Like the solid ground was turning into hot sand.
And then, she appeared.
A strange, ghostly figure. She was pure light, and small, and sat up in the chest. It was impossible to make out any details, especially with the orbs spinning so viciously.
She looked at the group and opened her mouth and--
They disappeared.
In another burst of light, they fell.
The no longer stood in the temple; instead they were falling, slowly, through the dreamlike space they'd seen before they landed in the temple.
They fell, for perhaps only a few seconds--and then their vision dimmed.
They were brought back to their senses only a second later when they fell to the ground in the center of Destiny City's central park. It was nighttime, perhaps a little after midnight. For a few seconds a strange energy clung to them, distorting their energy signatures, but within a few seconds they had returned to normal.
They were home again, and free to return to their lives--only, there was no explanation as to where they'd been, or how they got there, or why.
...But they had their rings, and their lives, and a story to tell.
And a mystery, for another day.
Quote:
Congratulations! You have made it back to Earth safely! Each character is now in possession of a unique ring. You can now take this ring off, but you cannot ever give it to anyone else. If you lose it, it will always return to your finger, but if you willingly take it off and hide it, it will remain safe until you recover it. You are no longer protected against other ring wearers (unless you wish to incorporate this into a plot). These rings are not simply decorative, they have limited magical abilities! While these abilities can be used in battle, they do not function as additional attacks and have some restrictions. They also have additional magical abilities that are not battle related! While their battle perks can only be used while powered, their passive abilities can be used whether civilian or powered!
Castor is now in possession of the Ice Ring!
The stone in this ring is a fierce, icy blue and the ring grants the chill of Ice. When the ring is equipped, the wearer can be in any form and will have the passive ability to will a gentle coldness that extends over their hands to keep them cool, as if they had an everlasting ice pack. Great for hot days and keeping drinks cool; it is not cold enough to cause damage or pain! Its true power shines while in powered form, though! Hitting any inorganic surface with the ring will create a 10ftx10ft sheet of ice on or around the object. The ice sheet is very thin, and only one sheet may be created at a time. It cannot do any damage or be used on any living creature but it can make an object or surface to slippery or cold to interact with. The ice will melt within sixty seconds and may melt quicker if exposed to any sort of heat.
Celsus is now in posession of the Fire Ring!
The stone in this ring is a bright, ruby red and the ring grants the warmth of Fire. When the ring is equipped, the wearer can be in any form and will have the passive ability to will a soft warmth that extends over their hands to keep them warm, as if they had an everlasting hand warmer. Great for long, cold nights! Its true power shines while in powered form, though! A simple finger snap will summon a small flame that rises from the stone. The flame will burn like a small orb the size of a golf ball and can be summoned for as long as the wearer desires. While in this form it cannot cause any harm and it cannot be extinguished or run out of fuel. The wearer can use the flame to light one inorganic object at a time; once the flame has been passed from the ring, the flame an be put out by normal means. Fire cannot be resummoned from the ring until any transferred flames have been put out.
Lacerta is now in posession of the Stone Ring!
The stone in this ring is a glistening, ash gray and the ring grants the durablity of Stone. When the ring is equipped, the wearer can be in any form and will have the passive ability to strengthen durability against natural, everyday injuries. You are almost always spared damage from things like papercuts, light bruising from every day tasks or mishaps, or toe stubs; you aren't protected against any magical damage or any damage major damage, though, so be careful! Its true power shines while in powered form, though! By pressing the stone of the ring into the palm of the wearer's hand, they are able to increase their denseness. They will still feel the normal level of pain from a strike but the attacker will feel like they are hitting something twice as dense as normal when the ring is activated. The increased density only lasts for five seconds at a time and requires a thirty second recharge before it can be used again, though there is no limit to the number of uses it has.
Scylla is now in posession of the Wind Ring!
The stone in this ring is almost completely clear with a few little cloudy specks within it and the ring grants the power of Wind. When the ring is equipped, the wearer can be in any form and will have a passive ability that allows them to feel physically lighter; they will sometimes find a random breeze blowing past them despite any natural air flow. Its true power shines while in powered form, though! Rotating the ring on its worn finger summons a burst of wind that rapidly pushes the wearer five feet in a random direction away from what the wearer believes to be nearest enemy or obstacle. The wearer cannot control which direction they are sent in but they will always be sent in the opposite direction of the nearest threat. While their is no limit to how many times the ring can be used, it requires at least one minute of cooldown between uses.
Tortuga is now in posession of the Electric Ring!
The stone in this ring is a vivid, bright yellow and the ring grants the spark of Electricity. When the ring is equipped, the wearer can be in any form and will have the passive ability to function as a small emergency battery that has an undying charge. When wielded it is just strong enough to recharge a phone or other small electronic. It is not strong enough to short circuit anything or cause damage. Its true power shines while in powered form, though! Striking any inorganic surface with the ring will send an electrical charge through it up to ten feet away. The spark is just enough to startle the first person it reaches but it is not strong enough to cause any lasting damage. The target may feel a tingling sensation but all symptoms should fade within thirty seconds. While there is no limit to how many times the ring can be used, only one spark can be released at a time. The ring cannot be used directly on any organic material.
If you have any questions, please direct them to the shop mule and we will be happy to answer them! We had a difficult time keeping up with the expected response times but we appreciate your patience and participation so much! Thank you all! You may continue to RP in this thread or have your characters take their leave, but there will be no more mule posts after this point in time!

Between the prince and the other two senior fighters the statue began to crumble, it went down fighting though. It slammed its spear into the ground once more, sending another shock wave through the room and sent Tortuga once more to the ground. The whole place shook and dust coated his lungs. As the squire coughed and tried to get back to his feet his ring, the ring that he had woken up with that was currently stuck on his finger, flashed a bright yellow.
Red, blue, yellow, white, and gray. The colors all flashed from the various points in the room where they, the unfortunate group who were transported, had been knocked to. Their ring's color illuminating the dust and debris like a twisted light show, reflecting off of the cracked and chipped form of the struggling statue.
As if things couldn't get any stranger the statue exploded, shards of stone ricochet around the entire room. Tortuga ducked but he felt the sting of the sharp pieces slice through his uniform. Oh goody, more things he needed to clean and patch up once this nightmare was over.
As silence settled on the room purple eyes looked up hesitantly, eyeing the damage and the strange orbs that bobbed in the air like some kind of will-o-wisp s**t, between the color of his ring, and the others, and the orbs that started to move Tortuga feared that maybe the statue had been placed there to prevent what was ever in the chest from getting out... something that they had quite possibly just released.
An orb darted around him, the squire flinching away from it, eyes squinting at the harsh light. He didn't want to touch it. Didn't want to know what would happen if he did. The light got brighter as the orbs picked up speed, the chest was burning brighter and brighter. He was trapped in some flashlight, strobe kind of hell that made a headache build behind his eyes with each flash of light. The redhead squeezed his eyes shut, trying to protect his sight, so he missed the chest popping open but the scream had him squinting in that direction even as the stone floor beneath him went squishy. "s**t," His curse was lost in the sound and madness. The squire tried to get to his feet at the dim outline of a person in the chest, the fight wasn't over yet, however the floor wasn't really cooperating with his desire.
Before he could wobble his way to more then a kneeling possession a burst of light blinded him and sent him falling... falling through space once more. Slowly, twistingly, dream like. Once more drifting through the either. Darkness once more enveloping him in its sweet embrace.
His eyes snapped open as they lightly fell to the ground, he immediately knew where he was. The central park. They were back. Had they actually gone anywhere? Tortuga was almost ready to write it all off as some twisted dream if the brief aura he had felt clinging to them didn't disprove that theory, that and the ring he still wore. "What the hell just happened?" His question was more rhetorical then anything, he doubted the others knew any more then he did.
A little niggling at the back of his head, not his headache which was still there, let him know he had a letter from a knight. Something he hadn't had before their little mysterious escapade. The letter he 'retrieved' was short and sweet and basically asked him where the hell he was. s**t! He was so late!
"I got to go!" He scrambled to his feet and hesitated for a moment, looking at the group that was around him. "Personally I would prefer to write this off as a dream but I don't think we can. However, if I don't want to be skinned by my cousins I've got to run so um, I guess I'll talk to you all later." He didn't really know how to handle this situation and he didn't have the time to figure it out right now. So with a shrug and a rather sheepish wave Tortuga took off running towards the tree line and the city behind it. He needed to find a place to power down so he could give his family a call, let them know he was ok.
He really needed to get his ring, it would make these things so much easier.
((Tortuga is out but really, some follow up rp would be much appreciated))

This was just too much to absorb. Lacerta had seen the statue fall and had barely reached the chest before another shockwave knocked her back from her intended target. The senshi of bandages winced at the impact before hunching over to protect herself from the debris that continued to fall.
Almost as soon as the thought was that she was going to end up crushed did Lacerta catch the flickers of light from her ring as it illuminated and burst forth a vibrant gray. "What on earth-" was about all the redhead could get out before the statue guard exploded and more shards of debris shot out in all directions. Wincing as she felt magical cloth tear Lacerta glanced down at her arm and caught the tell tale sign that would require some attention and relatively soon. Red was staining her sleeve and she sighed before muttering more to herself then anything. She'd heal herself soon if it turned out that the others would be fine.
It was then that the glowing orbs encircled them and Lacerta was clueless about what to do then. Nothing like this, not even being stuck in that weird mirror place had prepared the senshi for this. The popping open of the chest startled the senshi as the mysterious figure emerged and just as Lacerta was craning her neck to catch what was surely going to be something interesting ... everything went white.
The sensation of falling, Lacerta didn't know if she wanted to embrace it or fight it but either way it seemed as if their time in that strange structure was at an end. Her eyes took in the same spatial anomalies that she'd witnessed before this whole adventure had started before dimming to black. The jarring impact of hitting the ground brought her to full awareness once more and she struggled to catch her breath before glancing at those around her. Figuring that her wound would be alright and watching as Tortuga booked it out of the park the senshi of bandages glanced at Celsus, Castor and Scylla before sighing. The ring on her finger still glittered with a gray color while feeling it was another mystery to solve Lacerta sighed. It would have to be solved later. Now she had some explaining to do it seemed to her parents.
She would want to meet the others sometime in the near future. But for now she had to hurry home.
(( Lacerta's taking her leave ... but would love to meet Tortuga, Celsus, Scylla and Castor under more normal circumstances. ))
