Stump_Fairy Stump_Fairy Stump_Fairy Stump_Fairy Evren stared at the ducks in the pool. Carefully watching until, "Hmp!" She quickly bent down and reached out pulling up a duck. As she turned it over... there was nothing. Ah well, maybe next time. Evren turned over another duck... once again it was not the duck she was looking for... this truly was a test of luck. Would Evren ever be able to pull one of the elusive ducks? For her next attempt at trying to find the duck she quickly reached in and fished around and pulled out a duck that she managed to get her hands on. She held her breath as she pulled up another duck. This time it had the smiley symbol that she was looking for. With a smile, she handed it over to the clerk at the duck station and was handed the brown dog stuffed animal. Smiling she hugged it and put it into her bag. The next time that Evren circled around to play the duck game she bent down and picked another duck. Of course, this duck that she selected was not another winner so she placed it down and went back to taking a short break from playing carnival games. After a round of carnie games, Evren returned to the duck station. Leaning down after paying the attendant she picked up another floating duck and on the bottom was the smile symbol that she had gotten the second time she picked up one of the ducks. With that, she was handed another stuffed animal this time the pink rabbit. Looking at the lines of prizes that were all over the fair she realized she only had one more large stuffed animal to win before she had them all. Smiling at the stuffed creature she walked away to take a quick break and enjoy the other sights at the fair.

One more time. Then she would wait nearby and see if anybody actually won the game. She closed her eyes and randomly picked a duckie. She was scared to look. She handed it to her brother. He flipped the duckie over and smiled.
"It's a winner."
She jumped up and down.
"Can I have a panda?"
She already had the smaller version of it that she won from one of the other games.

Hmm. More candy.
Jessie circled the ponmd slowly, motions smooth as she slipped the attendant another dollar. Her motions were smooth, even. She desperately wanted more than candy for Owen, and yet so far, that was what he was getting. Most of it, anyhow. Regardless, the black haired woman was hunting, and soon, another duck was snapped from the pond, the woman focused.
Two. All she needed was one more....

Loren looked the booth up and down. He was... okay at these sorts of games. He knew they were primarily based on luck, because there wasn't really any way to predict which duck he needed, but he tended to have incredibly variable luck with them. Paying the fee to try it out, he looked it over again. His hand reached out towards one, but he pulled his hand back before actually choosing it. He did this one, two more times, each time pulling his hand back before he actually chose a duck. He could tell the people running the booth were getting impatient, however. There were other people wanting to try the game, too, so he supposed he couldn't really blame them.
So he needed to hurry up, grab a duck, and go away.
The next duck that Loren reached for, he actually chose and picked up. He held his breath a little a he turned it over. Somehow, he was colossally unsurprised to see that the duck was a dud. Well, he guessed it was time to get back in line and try again... Oh, right, he did get a piece of candy, though.

Glaring at the two of them. "Way to show me up you guys." Laughing as she was joking about the glare she picked up a duck and squealed in excitement. "I guess we are all winners today."

Evren saw the probability of winning twice in a row as unlikely. Huffing she smiled as she shook her head and walked away to wait for her next turn.

"I'll be having a puppy now." Jessie turned to the attendant with a dollar, eager to try for more candy now that Owen and Rhiasn were covered. She was sure she could get some her dad liked, and some extra never hurt. Besides, if she won another plush, she could give it to her baby sister or similar -- she had one more sister, or she could donate it to a Fallen Warrior's family.
Both worthy causes.

(195) As he came back through the line, Loren tried to discreetly observe which ducks seemed to be most likely to be prize ducks. However, there was really no rhyme or reason to it that he could see, so he gave up on that pretty quickly. He had been hoping to avoid having to rely on good old-fashioned luck, but it looked like that was where he was going to have to stay. Maybe he'd get the lucky duck this time. ...Ha. Clustering around the bucket with the rest of the people wanting a duck, Loren waited for an opening. He was tempted to try predicting again, but he knew there was no real sense to doing that. So, picking one at random, he snagged it out of the water and turned it over. Unfortunately, it wasn't any more of a "lucky duck" than the first one had been. Oh, well. Darn. Okay, that one didn't actually get him anything. With a slight shrug, he handed it back to the booth operator and glanced back towards the line. He could try again, he supposed. He didn't really have too much else waiting to take up his attention. (196)

The ducks, Owen decided, hated him more than anything else so far. Why else did he keep picking bad ones? And the way they seemed to glare at him...
It was a quack-spiracy! (Okay, maybe frustration was driving him a little crazy...)

Nadia went ahead and picked up another duck for the heck of it and looked at the two of them wide eyed. "I WON AGAIN!" This day was going to be awesome. Maybe she could collect all 4 stuffed animals.

Hmmm. Only five pieces of candy with his favorite? That wouldn't do. Another dollar, another duck was to be selected, Jessie standing by her current wins analytically. Surely there was a bigger number. Her Dad deserved a delicious treat for his service to his country, and for being, in her opinion, awesome.
