Frossa couldn't help but wonder, as she slashed down more daywalkers, how many there were on the ship. What about the culling class ships? That probably was a real challenge!

Another smash of her flail, and the hall was clear. "All good to go~!" She called out, waving to the others.

"Good job!" Scorpa clapped as Frossa kicked major butt again. She beamed at how well this was going! They were capturing lots of footage of them all succeeding and looking good. The whole point of this was to get their names out there as awesome performers and warriors. She really hoped the Queen would watch this and find her useful. She had to prove that she'd deserved that letter of recommendation.

She wondered if maybe Sarce would watch it as well. And Austri! Oh gog, so many trolls to watch them dazzle out here- stars in space! She was feeling really pumped!

Sascha investigates the door... And finds it trapped AND locked!

HP: 14/20
Military Weapon: +1 DMG
Trinkets:
3/3 Defense Style A: 2 damage is detracted from last incoming attack.
1/1 Defense Style B: Nullify damage from the last attack.
Telekinesis: 1/2 Offensive Style B: Attack does double damage, and detracts 1 health from opponent every remaining turn. Recurring damage effect stacks.

Sascha approached the door, but stopped short of attempting to open it. He'd dealt with enough acid that night to have some degree of caution. He rapped against the door with the back of his knuckles, as though testing the sturdiness. Then he tried to pull it open. No dice. Sascha paused when he noticed he felt warmth through the metal of the door.

"Hey I think there's some kind of wiring through this door. I think it's trapped. Not that I can seem to open it anyway. Locked too. Hope whatever's on the other side is worth the trouble." Sascha was confident in the team's ability to get through the door. That wasn't the problem by a long shot. He winced at the memory and gingerly touched his face. Hopefully the yellowness had started to fade from his skin. They could clean that up in the footage later, right?

"Excellent deduction, Nova. Let me take a look at that." She wondered what kind of traps would be on the other side. The last one had been pretty good entertainment to film, even if it'd temporarily blinded people. She leaned down to inspect the wiring and carefully used a scalpel from her kit to cut open part of the plastic. Which wire went to what? She was not a trap expert by any means but she did know a thing or two about how to break a circuit. Past experience led her to decide to cut the copper wire and leave the silver one alone.

There was a short hum followed by a whirl of activity inside the wall before it all fell silent. It was safe now to just kick down the door and they had the perfect candidate for that.

"Stand back, everyone! I totally got this~" A locked door was no match for her flail. No, no. Frossa let very few things get in the way of what she wanted, and no mere plant of wood or metal could prevent her from pressing onward.

"WAAAAHHHHH--!!!" With a shrill cry, she careened herself against the door, throwing all of her weight through her mace and, as luck and skill would have it, the door.

Frossa brushed shards off from her uniform. "Phew! This is what happens when you drink lots of udderbeast secretion, kids!" She threw a thumbs up to the camera.

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.
The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!
You have encountered a ...

Dice 1
1. ... Enraged... (-1 to all attacks)
2. ... Jawless... (+1 on accuracy rolls)
3. ... Putrid... (-1 on all accuracy rolls)
4. ... Decomposing ... (+1 on all attacks)
Dice 2
1. ... Skeletal... (-5 miniboss HP)
2. ... Bellicose... (players take 2x the amount of damage on their first turn)
3. ... Armoured... (only 2 players per turn may use a special artifact/ability/item)
4. ... Burning... (take an extra 1 dmg each time you deal max damage (highest roll possible for weapon or damage-dealing skill))
Dice 3
1. ...Undead Ship Cook!
2. ... Mutated Daywalker!
3. ... Zombie Gerbil Pack!
4. ... Daywalker on Fire!
MINIBOSS STARTING HP: 30/30
If you rolled a 1, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 2, take 4 dmg.
If you rolled a 3, take 3 dmg.
If you rolled a 4, take 3 dmg.
If you rolled a 5, take 2 dmg.
If you rolled a 6, take 2 dmg. Your attack this turn does double damage.
If all party members reach 0hp, look below:
You must make a tactical retreat! Scrambling back out of the room,
you barely make it to the pod with all your limbs attached.
Better luck next time! You have retreated from your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

If the mini-boss reaches 0hp, look below:

If this is your first or second mini-boss fight look below:

If a member of your team is a trained Discipline or Endurace specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can close your eyes and draw on inner reserves to keep going. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Restore 1d10+3 OR 1/3rd (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Restore 1d8+2 OR 1/4th (rounded down) of your hp.
If you are training your skill: Restore 1d6+1 hp.
You cannot roll the dice then choose the flat restoration, one must be picked beforehand.

If a member of your team is a trained Troll Relations or Leadership specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can manage to cheer, rally, or cajole your teammates into finding more energy. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.
If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+3 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are a Novice in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+2 (rolled separately) hp.
If you are training your skill: Each team member restores 1d4+1 (rolled separately) hp.

If this is your third mini-boss fight, you have reached the control room! Roll 1d4 and look in the spoiler below:

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*
2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.
4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*
If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.
Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

Sascha attacks the putrid, bellicose, zombie gerbil pack!

HP: 14/20
Military Weapon: +1 DMG
Trinkets:
3/3 Defense Style A: 2 damage is detracted from last incoming attack.
0/1 Defense Style B: Nullify damage from the last attack.
Telekinesis: 1/2 Offensive Style B: Attack does double damage, and detracts 1 health from opponent every remaining turn. Recurring damage effect stacks.

Sascha entered the room, albeit slower than before. When he remained un-sprayed, his posture relaxed and he took a look around the room properly. He didn't see any trollian figures present, but he could faintly hear some kind of scrabbling noise. A lot of it.

Then suddenly it wasn't so faint anymore. Dozens upon dozens of misshapen gerbils spilled into the room, filling the space with an awful rotting stench. "Undead gerbils!? That's a thing that can happen!?"

Sascha's knives weren't made for attacking something that barely came up to his ankles, much less so damn many somethings. He kicked at the swarm, wincing at the awful crackle-squish sound that ensued.

Sascha does 3 damage!

Sascha attacks the putrid, bellicose, zombie gerbil pack with telekinesis!

"Hang back, everyone! This is gonna get gross." Sascha called over his shoulder to the team in the threshold. It would be best to get this attack out of the way before anyone else was in the room to get caught in the crossfire.

Sascha turned on the gerbil swarm, grimacing from the stench. It wasn't about to get any better with what he was about to do to them. Lights flashed and in a red haze, the gerbils were swept up in a tornado and hurled into the far wall. At least half survived impact, but the ones that didn't popped like the grotesque little fleshbags they were. Sascha gagged.

Sascha does 11 damage!

Frossa attacks the putrid, bellicose, zombie gerbil pack!

"W-wait, what?" Frossa heard what Sascha had called out, but the words didn't quite register. Not here, in reality. It sounded like something out of one of her FLARP sessions.

She stepped past Sascha once he was done with his attacks. The wall of stench hit her; she joined him in the gagging. "Ew--AIIIIIIIIEEEE!" Frossa's disgust quickly flipped to instinctive terror when the surviving gerbils collected themselves and scurried back into the light.

"Gross, gross, gross!" Frossa squealed. She attempted to attack with her flail- and upon realizing how ineffective it was against such small, quick targets- resorted to stomping around with her heavy boots. They crunched and popped. Frossa whined.

Frossa stomped. And stomped and stomped and stomped. At some point she had given up actually aiming, and just squeezed her eyes shut and kept going with her awkward little murder-dance until she felt nothing new give way under her feet.

She let out a small, shaky sigh of relief.

"Nasty!" Scorpa gagged at the sight of what Sascha was doing. Frossa's tap dance of death was grotesque too but she didn't mind it as much. Maybe they could put some music to it.

She didn't really want to go in there and get dirty. So she waited until most of the freaky gerbils were dead and then ran in to smack the final pile. She'd helped!

"Don't, er, worry about cleaning up the messes you make. Some drones or something'll come in and handle it later." The yellowblood flashed a sheepish smile to the camera.

Ugh, well, that was quite the ordeal. Daywalkers, sure. Mutated daywalkers on fire? Why not. But these guys. These gerbils... ugh. The smell still filled her nostrils.

Well- there was one thing that always made Frossa feel better. Always, indubitably, without fail.

Frossa reached into her pack, retrieving four individually wrapped cookies of various colours and shapes. She slid around the group, offering them out to each individual.

"Here, eat up! The sugar rush will be good for us~!"

Frossa is healing via her troll relations.

"How kind of you. It's so cute, too!" Flydra accepted one of Frossa's cookies, admiring the aesthetic of it. It was shaped like a balloon, how quaint. The tealblood loved balloons, they were so fun to pop. She bit down into it and her eyes bulged out of her skull for a moment.

"Hrk-" Ugh, how long had this been in Frossa's bag? It was totally stale. She swallowed down the rest of it awkwardly, wishing she had brought some mints along or something.

Sascha was doing his best to scrap gerbil remains off his boots. It was a futile task when the floor was also rancid with rodents. He nearly jumped back as Frossa appeared in his vision wielding cookies. He looked as horror-stricken by the sight as he had the gerbils. "How can you possibly be thinking about eating right now?"

Despite his protests, Sascha took a cookie, albeit with clear hesitation. It had been a long while since he'd last eaten anything. Even if he didn't feel like it, it was important to keep stamina up. Besides, he didn't want to be rude to a commanding purpleblood. On camera, no less. Sascha nibbled on the cookie, before shoving it in his mouth entirely. Better get it over with.

"Nutrition is very important while you're out here!" Scorpa accepted the cookies, grabbing a handful of them, and spoke to the camera. She didn't actually know much about what nutrients the body might need out in space or care about staying hydrated. That was Flydra's job. Flydra handled all of her dietary needs. And if Flydra was going to eat the cookies, she figured she could too.

"So eat up! Yum!" The yelllowblood winked at the camera and chowed down. She'd only really brought it up to try and justify how many cookies she'd grabbed. Girl was hungry okay! When she finished she wiped her mouth and saluted Frossa.

"Thanks commander!"
