She started trying to shove into it, see how that would go. "So. I've noticed that. Behind every closed off area. There's something. Nasty." She took a step back, shoulder now officially smarting too much to try again. She rubbed it idly. "I'm starting to think, hey, maybe these doors are locked for a reason. You think we're gonna be three for three on that?"

"Can't say you're wrong. I get the feeling you're gonna be all too right, but hey, we're about to find out for sure." They couldn't risk passing by the control room, after all. If this was it, they had to get inside.
Leveling his shoulder, he rammed the door. Luckily he wasn't lying about finding out—it gave way after a good shove or two.

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here. If all party members reach 0hp, look below:
You must make a tactical retreat! Scrambling back out of the room, you barely make it to the pod with all your limbs attached. Better luck next time! You have retreated from your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!
If the mini-boss reaches 0hp, look below:
If this is your first or second mini-boss fight look below:
If a member of your team is a trained Discipline or Endurace specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.* 2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit. 3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit. 4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.* If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team. Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!
Awww, s**t. Getting the door open so loudly killed whatever stealth the group had. Very quickly, something came at them. Something ugly. "Three for three!" Luxara confirmed. She reloaded and stepped out of the way as it lunged, getting scraped along the arms, but she could take it. She could bleed a little bit. But it was still too close. She opted to smack the thing with her crossbow, hopefully stun it a little, so she could make more space.

She got as far as she could with the little time she had. Luxara lined her shots for the head. "I'm shooting," she warned so no one would get between her crossbow and the daywalker. Though, her voice caught its attention. It moved towards her. God. Dammit. The tracker helped her keep her crosshairs on it, though not as decisive shots as she wanted.
However, the results were results. Holes punched through the body, blood and pile splooging out because of it.
"All right, who's up to bat?"

"Huuuuh, that thing's lookin pretty riled up now, huh?" Trusci was still sporting a smile, but this thing looked a lot more formidable than anything else they'd came across. Caution Modsat, you had to be cautious. This thing wouldn't go down in a flurry of sparks like the last one. She swallowed, but dove in with her scimitar regardless.
It clanged rather uselessly on its armored body.
"Alright, change of plans! I'm gonna try and distract it. Passin' the baton to you Sents."
Sents?

In the next instant, Trusci unleashed her power again, the teal energy zapping near the daywalker. Whatever damage it might have caused, it wasn't much... but the daywalker seemed distracted by it nevertheless, which was a mission accomplished in Trusci's book. She dove behind the (much) taller yellowblood, her hand giving him a hefty pat on the back.
Ah, Sents.
"Make it count!" It wasn't looking this way, so hopefully their team sentimental sweetheart could make a good impression on the decidedly not-gerbil-like undead. There was another reason for Trusci's distraction though.
Hopefully the others would be preoccupied with the creature for a hot second. This was a last opportunity for souvenirs after all!

When Luxara called her shot, Aprife took a quick step forward, ready to guard her if the alerted daywalker lunged. Luckily enough, it was slow and her shots were fast. "Nice work," he complimented shortly before ducking away, watching Trusci make her move next.
Wait, who was Sents exactly? Didn't take long for her to answer that very unasked question.
"Sents, huh? That's a new one." Didn't stop him from following through on her distraction, though. He shot forward, not even bothering to brandish his whip, and kicked hard at the back of its knees. It lost its balance and began to fall, unable to to compensate when it hadn't seen it coming. Even so, its mutated claws managed to catch Aprife's arm on the way down.

"Great teamwork, everyone!" Vulpin complimented, digging a knife through the armoured creature. They really were surprised at the sudden energy and good attitude. Who knew strangers could bond so quickly?
"There's not a lot of fight left in this thing," Vulpin assessed, skirting around to avoid another hit. "Let's finish it off!"
Luxara had to shoot it as it came at her, sacrificing more of her well-being for a good-a** hit. She cussed as it bit into her shoulder. 'Ardais' booted it away. She skirted around as quick as possible after. "Real sprightly for an old-as-hell corpse, I'll give it that."

"Well y'know, I gotta keep you guys on your toes, huh?" She winked as her fellow yellowblood as he went right in. Between the four of them, the mutated daywalker didn't stand a chance. Hell, between the three of her teammates, it didn't stand a chance. This was a good thing for her.
Rather than taking another swing, Trusci slipped seamlessly into the background. If someone was going to call her out on it, she'd just come up with some excuse. Maybe she was looking for an opening. Maybe she thought you guys could handle it! Anyway, back off, she pulled her weight earlier.
Which is why she was stuffing her pockets now with small, innocuous things. What kind of things? Who knew! Trusci didn't, but it was old and it was on space and it wouldn't be missed, especially if the ship had to be detonated. Besides, this stuff was shiny--ohh, was that a pen? A space pen.
See? Innocent stuff.
Trusci did have the mindfulness to turn over her shoulder on occasion though, spark some of her psionic energy to try and cause more distraction, but the daywalker seemed numb to it at this point. Pity. At least no one could say she wasn't trying!

If keeping them on their toes meant being nothing but a vague help after so long, Aprife supposed he didn't really care. The daywalker was slowing now, obviously hindered by it injuries whether it had enough cognizance to feel any of them or not. Wouldn't be long. In fact-
All it took was quick strike with his scourge and the creature crumpled into a heap and stopped moving, parts of its armored body crumbling away into dust.
"Guess that's it," he said, looking between Luxara and Vixeni. "So, you coming, kid?" That one was for Trusci.

Vulpin noticed what Trusci was doing. Of course, they thought. The yellowblood seemed to be going crazy, nabbing whatever little thing her hands could reach.
Not that Vulpin was the type to call her out on it, at least not publicly. They waited for the adults to be out of earshot, before whispering to the yellowblood again. "Take your time, dear." They chuckled. "There will be plenty of nice things aboard the other ships. Don't fill your bag too early." With a wink, they ran back up to the front of the line.
Checking over the command center, Vulpin managed to find the right way to connect to headquarters. Apparently, it looked like this baby could still run. Somehow, not blowing it up felt like a disappointment. They addressed their crew. "Looks like we're waiting for a helmsman to pull us in. Thank you for all of your great effort." Vulpin clapped their hands together. "I'll be filling out a report for the lieutenant, so it's good I only have nice things to say about you, team."
