Yuuri put his hand over his heart, just the way that Kamacite tended to do - a distressed motion that made Lauri lean back; his goal was not to terrorize his 'guest' - no matter how much fun it might have been. It is a dangerous game I play with a frightened bird. Prey animals don't always understand why they are in danger, only that they are in danger.

Lauri stabbed more of his salad and placidly went back to eating, pretending that he was far more interested in what Adam Savage was doing on the TV screen than he was with Yuuri's flush, or with the 'deeper mystery' of who had a stupid Finnish dog.

"Your friend should teach you better swears. Finnish is the best language for swearing, much better than English."

The tension subsided. Lauri had looked away and settled against the bed and Yuuri was left wondering if he just made up the uncomfortable atmosphere in his head. Whatever the case, he was glad. After a few minutes of silence he was able to lower his hand from his chest and went back to picking at what was left of his dinner.

The idea of learning more Finnish was intriguing, but he felt a little strange wanting to ask Lauri. Maybe he would email Pasi when he got home and see how he was doing. That wasn’t weird, was it?

After those few tense moments, Yuuri didn’t feel at all uncomfortable for the rest of the evening. It was a short evening, because while Lauri watched television and drank his beer, the stress of that afternoon settled heavily on Yuuri. He was still in pain, although it was a dull throb thanks to the medicine he was given, but he was utterly exhausted.

Yuuri wasn’t sure when he dozed off, but when he woke again, it was dark and he was warm. Somehow he’d ended up curled against Lauri, snuggled close against his side, close enough that he could feel the steady beat of his heart. There was a weight against the top of his head, Lauri’s hand there as though he’d been patting him in reassurance like one would with a nervous animal.

Part of him thought he should move, to maybe give Lauri more room, especially since he hadn’t seemed too comfortable with hugging him before.

But Yuuri felt warm and safe and in the end closed his eyes to go back to sleep.
