Cheshire Kattz Yeah its not too bad, im not going out or anything. But its a nice day off of rest. How about you? I'm starting (belatedly) on my usual string of Halloween movies XD I had some seams to hem and I didn't want to put my movies on while I worked the sewing machine because I wouldn't hear it, so I put Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets audiobook on (because it expires in two days). Fun Nightmare Before Christmas (it always perks me up- the world might be a place full of struggles and unhappiness, but none of that can take away the fact that I know all the words and nobody can stop me singing along) but now Hocus Pocus is on, next, if I'm still awake, Sweeny Todd, and if time after that. Corpse Bride, and (probably not) Rocky Horror. Apparently Trick Or Treating is becoming more prevalent in my country, and I have no personal objection, but people are copying Trick or Treating the way it's shown in movies, which is just not how it works in real life and there are unspoken rules which never get in the movies, like the porchlight rule, which people ignore here, which is obviously silly because if someone in a place where Halloween isn't celebrated has no porchlight on, they aren't participating in Trick or Treating. To say nothing at all of the safety risks; tv and movies show young children Trick or Treating at night- that's just not safe or realistic.

Thats not safe either. And nighttime tot was back in the 80s things were much different then.

I just think it's very ignorant to send your kids out to strangers houses at night just because you saw people in a different country doing it in a movie. Worst is the sense of entitlement- I remember having all the lights off to watch a Halloween movie and kids came up to the dark house- what do you expect? Honestly, they should set some rules. I wasn't around in the 80s but I can believe you there XD

But, now a lot of people don't celebrate it. In fact, its so dangerous here they send kids to public places like the mall for treats.

Yeah I have heard of reprisals for people not giving to trick or treaters in the US and I was concerned it might start happening here- for less cause. I'm glad it hasn't, I think the rich parts have got trick or treating rather than lower income neighbourhoods. We're... probably low-income. We live an hour from the city, everyone's starting to buy property out here because you can actually get a backyard and it's driving prices up but back when we bought, this place was considered a wasteland. It still is, but all the richer people who have bought in the developments are trying to class the place up. I personally think that it's as dangerous as it's ever been, but there's more knowledge about crimes now. Using my country as an example, we still think, though less, that we're safe, even though there have been disappearances, and famous ones, throughout our history. People just hear about crimes more easily now. Putting extra safety precautions in is very good, though. That's why I got my first mobile phone at age 11 or something; I had to travel for school on public transport and the phone made me feel better even though I never used it. So you reckon fewer people are celebrating Halloween in general or Trick or Treating? That is very interesting.

People go out to celebrate instead. Same with kids. At least here in US AZ state. I dont know about other states. I think crime is more dangerous because of the type of weapons we use for one, and depends where you live as far as crime is concerned. For example, a child gets killed with a knife one dies... With bombing or shootings several die. I'm sure it's a matter of perspective.

You're right it is about perspective- we don't have bombings or shootings here, so I was thinking more of abduction or assault, because of my perspective. We don't have a lot of knife violence, either, mostly I think we have beatings and one punch kills. Ah well at least they're having fun, whatever they do!
