I'm incessantly amused by the fact that so many phanphiction authors basically turn Erik into Raoul and Raoul into Erik, and then proceed to bash Raoul.

It makes little sense, but it's all I can think of to say. Yes. What is it R.A.O.U.L. says? Vive le Vicomte!

I love Raoul too^^ He and my boyfriend also share a resemblance (In my opinion)

Well yes, Raoul is good. I'd much rather leave the lair with him than stay with Erik. Sure, he's hot, sure I feel bad, but I just like Raoul more.

^ Thread necromancy. ^_^ Considering how few pro-Raoul phans/threads there are in general, it's a shame to let this one die. So I have a challenge, inspired by the R.A.O.U.L. yahoo!group. We're taking back the old insult of 'fop' and turning into something positive. So can anyone here think of an acronym for F.O.P that is Raoul-positive? For example:

FOP: Fabulous Opera Patron
FOP: Fantasie Opera Parisienne
FOP: Favorite Of Phangirls

I mean, just the fact that Christine, a devout Catholic, tries to kill herself when faced with a life with Erik... Would she do that if she loved him? No. Christine did not love Erik romantically... She might have felt something for him platonically when he wasn't acting like a psycho, but that doesn't mean she wanted to marry him.

And it really annoys me when people seem to imply that by liking Raoul you like Erik less, because it's not true. I've never met a single phan who liked Raoul and hated Erik, so shouldn't have to apologize for liking Raoul for fear that someone is going to show up and get all defensive. I swear, some people are so silly... They act like we're a threat to their phanhood or something. *eyeroll*

But hey, Raoul's great...! Any guy who's willing to give up a lifetime of wealth and entitlement to marry a girl, who's already put him through hell, needs a medal or something.

I'm not even a Raoul fan and I have to agree with you and BT. Christine didn't love Erik. Of course, the people BT mentioned probably were thinking Gerik, not Erik...
...I have a confession to make. I don't hate Raoul, I actually kinda like him...

How does one go about getting something stickied? If it involves contacting the mods, someone else should probably do it, because they seem to hate me. confused
Sad to say the mad Anti-Raoul/Pro-EC movement has been going on for far longer than the movie has been out. I'm prone to blame it on the ALW show, but I know there are book-phans who hate Raoul, too... So it's likely that it's just some sort of psychological over-enthusiasm (the same type that causes some Harry/Hermione fans to hate Ron, or Legolas/Aragorn shippers to turn Arwen into a heartless b*tch). They identify so strongly with Erik that anything that threatens his happiness, (like logic, Christine's canon personality, or Raoul) automatically becomes omgtehEVIL. The threat is summarily dealt with either by ignoring logic, twisting Christine's characterization until she fits a stereotype that would make Erik happy, or by turning Raoul into a stupid fop who is so completely inferior to Erik that there's no possible way he could be considered a threat. This theory is supported by how defensive some Raoul bashers get at the first sign of anyone supporting him... They consider it a threat to their liking Erik.
(And I'm being general here, so no one jump on me with, 'I just don't like him because of his personality', etc. rolleyes )

But, yes... That's my theory. Pro-Raoul forever! We must show the forum that he isn't the stereotype he's been typecast as!
