Jacepi frowned. He shook his head at her. "Don't ever blame yourself for what happened to me," he said, firmly. "It was my choice to go. I could've been save in the Hall. But we ventured out, heading for that hold. I'm... just glad I didn't take Jacel with me. He had such a fever..." he hesitated, and stroked her cheek.
"It's not your fault."

She sighed and leaned into his touch, still shaking her head. It didn't matter how much he insisted it wasn't her fault. It was. "You could have been a dragonrider," she whispered and sniffled again. She felt like one of those useless women she'd heard about in some holds. Good for nothing but breeding brats and bursts into tears at the smallest provocation. She was a green rider, shard it, she should be better than this!
Even so, she leaned her shoulder against Jacepi's. She felt Anath comforting her in her way, bolstering her emotions with strength and determination.
