The use of the word "friend" gave him pause. Mentally, at least; he was busy scarfing down the last of his little stack while he listened. He couldn't remember the last time he had anyone he considered a friend. Elementary school, maybe? Middle school? Sure, he had mentors and coaches and teachers, but friends? Not really. Everyone was mostly just a "hi, hey, what's up" kind of person to him, so for someone to call him a friend was...different. He couldn't really process it, so he didn't.
When he was finally done he leaned against the counter, a very content look settling on his face. "It wouldn't come up 'cause we've been training basically whenever we meet," he said with a shrug. "Good thing it did, though. ********' delicious, what the hell."

She continued to watch him eat, for a minute, before going and cleaning up the dishes, quietly. She hoped he was ok with her bluntly calling him a friend, but whether he reacted badly or not, she was telling it like she saw it. He was her friend, in her eyes. He had told her he'd have her back, and she'd definitely have his, he had helped her train, and was going to do so again... Even if it wasn't what some people might want in a friendship, it didn't matter. It was one in her mind.
And she never had many before, so each one mattered.
When he finished, she glanced at him, and shrugged. "True enough... And I'm glad you liked them. I wish more of the recipes from... that side of my lineage were ones I was as comfortable with. But I plan to keep practicing. I want to be able to make more Korean dishes then I currently can." She was drying off the pans as she spoke, and her eyes went back to her work, not wanting to ding them.

When she started cleaning up he straightened out and started helping her, still nodding now and again while she talked. "Gotcha. That's why the internet exists, so you can learn this s**t on your own, so." He got to the sink and started washing his dishes, then found a towel to dry them off with. "Forget 'em. Just let me know whenever you're practicing. I'll taste every last ********' thing you cook in here, I swear."
If this was what friendship looked like, then maybe. It was a thought that he knew would roll around in his head for days to come, and he knew Zephira would probably be screeching at him to make up his mind after a day or two, but it was something he really had to think about.

She gave him a smile of thanks at his help, and soon, the kitchen was pretty clean between them both. His comment about the internet made her go silent as she worked, though, clearly thinking about his suggestion, one that hadn't occurred to her. When they HAD it all away, she actually stood there, staring into space, thinking about it.
She suddenly pulled her phone out and began searching for information on Korean recipes and cooking techniques, and stumbled across a website run by a woman who called herself Maangchi, and even made youtube videos on Korean cooking. She looked up at him, and gave him a huge grin. "Brilliant idea. Utterly brilliant. I will be definitely working on this... And I appreciate having a taste tester on hand." She paused, then arched a brow at him, with a warning look. "Be prepared, though, Korean food can get preeeeeeeeetty spicy." She tapped a recipe she really wanted to learn to make, but knew would take her some time. "But I'll happily feed you... And we can set up cooking lessons in the next few days, once I get my recipe into a form I can teach." She reached over and punched his arm in a friendly way, and nodded. "Excellent..."
She paused, then a sudden expression of 'OH RIGHT' crossed her face. "Nearly forgot! Wanted to ask you about your tat. That thing, what I could see, is freaking epic."

When she spaced out the brunette was tempted to mess with her a little to get her attention, but before he got the chance she was on her phone doing something so he held back and instead just headed toward where their coats were to check if his was dry yet. He dusted off some stray, stubborn droplets but otherwise the coat seemed dry so he threw it over his shoulder for now.
"I can handle it," he said with a smug look, not entirely sure exactly how spicy Korean cuisine could get since this was the first time he'd try any. If today's food was any indication, how bad could it be?
Rhys was about to put his coat on when she mentioned his tattoo. It surprised him a little that she'd be interested in that sort of thing but the compliment still got a small smile out of him. "Thanks. A guy I knew hooked me up. Wanna see it?"

"You sure? When I start getting into the gochujang-laced recipes, you might regreeeet it." She was teasing him lightly. "Seriously, though, I'll make sure there's rice on hand to help if it gets too much, and milk."
His offer to show her the tattoo made her blue eyes lit up with interest. "Yes, please? I love tattoos..." She paused, considered that statement, then added "Most tattoos. There's some I definitely think shouldn't exist... But most tattoos are ******** awesome, and I would LOVE to see yours." She moved over to where he was, and sighed. "I plan to get one someday, myself."

"Yeah," he said simply before tossing his coat onto one of the counters. He slipped his left arm out of his shirt (because he probably shouldn't be taking his shirt off entirely in the kitchen) and lifted the shirt up and out of the way so she could see the tattoo in full. It was an extensive tribal design that covered part of his neck, back, bicep, all of his left chest and down, all along the left side of his body, the tail end of which was below his belt line.
"It took a month or something to get this s**t done, but worth it. You thinkin' about something like this or smaller?"

Her eyes were focused on the tattoo as it emerged from under the shirt. She clearly wasn't bothered by shirtlessness, nor particularly caring at how much he showed. She moved around to study the back part first, barely restraining the urge to reach out and run her fingers along the lines. THAT would be inappropriate, she knew, but there was so much detail that she wanted to follow the patterns.
As she started to shift back to where she could study the front part of the piece, she grinned. "Full back piece is my current plan. Starscape design, because I mean, I got me a theme. Might consider something else later but for the moment, this is what matters to me."

Rhys held his shirt up and let her look as much as she wanted. He didn't get many chances to actually show off his tattoo to someone who cared to see it, so this was pretty cool. "Starscape, huh?" he said with a pretty impressed nod. "And full back? Guess you're pretty ********' serious about it. Color?"

She was delighted by the work that had gone into his tattoo. It was incredible, and she loved it. "This stuff is amazing. Your guy, whoever he was, did an awesome job." She grinned up at him, before going back to looking at the detail. It was super easy to get lost in his tattoo, there was just so much to find. "I'm not surprised it took a month, honestly, with the level of detail work here. I can't imagine how he managed it without a magnifying glass for some of this."
She grinned more, as she talked about her plan. "Oh yeah, full color. When I'm old and grey and too achey to dye my hair bright colors anymore, should I be so lucky to live that long, I still will have my colors on my back, even if I have to get them retouched. And yeah. I'm 100% serious about it. I've wanted this since I was 16 or so."

He nodded along and, when it seemed like she was done looking, put his shirt back on, followed by his coat.
"I hear ya. I'd keep retouching this thing, too. It reminds me of where I came from, s**t I went through. And it looks pretty ********' good, too." He grinned and crossed his arms, sort of giving Seren a once-over much like he did when he first met her. "Don't you want something you can show off more, though? Unless you're naked or in a bikini or somethin' no one'll ever see it."

She shrugged at his question, a somewhat serious expression on her face. "Might get something like that some day. But this piece is for me, to remind me that there is more out there then the s**t back home, or the ridiculous insanity here. Every time I see my back in a mirror, I'll remember." She paused, then added, with an amused look, "And besides, if I'm not wearing my coat, and I choose like... a Halter top or something with minimal back, I can still be properly decent, while showing it off when I get it." She found herself looking back at him, curious as to what prompted his once-over again.
"But like I said. I might get other stuff later. Already have an idea or two but those are less important, less personal then this one."

That made sense, and he could relate to doing stuff just for himself. He had to think that way in order to keep himself from going completely off the edge when he was growing up, so he left it at that.
Rhys nodded toward her coat. "So you wanna get outta here? I can hear my bed callin' me again, to be honest."

She nodded, and snagged her coat, pulling it on over her and popping her hood up. "Yeah, let's go. I'm for a shower, first, myself but then... Maybe bed, maybe reading that book I found on the tower."
She gave him a slight smile, because she could tell she'd done as much as she could for him today, for whatever was up, and at least he seemed better. "But gym tomorrow... 7 is good I hope?" She moved to open the door, and let him go first, figuring he'd want to get MOVING.

"Yep, that works for me. Meet by the entrance and we'll jog to the gym to warm up."
Rhys followed her to the door and, when she opened it for him, stepped through first. It bugged a bit so he turned to her while waiting for her to close up behind him. "Lemme do that next time. My Pops would slug me if he knew I was lettin' girls open doors for me."
