"Did they tell you that?" He reached out to try and grab the bottle back. "Or is that just your conclusion without their input? Cause I'm starting to get really sick and ******** tired of people just assuming s**t about each other and getting ******** mad and and..." he gestured at Merric," ...all hurt by something that wasn't even implied. Not intentionally anyway."

"They didn't have to after what I did," said Merric, taking another swig before he let the bottle be taken from him. He wiped his mouth again, feeling antsy and uncomfortable and frustrated all at once, his chest too tight to be reasonable. "Sometimes people don't need to say anything."

"Well sometimes they do," he argued before taking another swig and wilting slightly. "What could you have possibly done?"

He didn't want to answer that. It hurt too much.
"Betrayed their trust," Merric said, something that throbbed through him, his head aching. "I can't take that back."

Al looked annoyed by the vague answer that didn't actually answer anyway. It was still a conclusion without fact and after Rep - that was a hot button for him. He handed the bottle back, "did they say you betrayed them?"

Al was given an almost annoyed look before Merric took a long swig. The bottle was nearly empty now.
"They didn't have to. I'm aware of what I've done."

"Then how do you even really know they feel betrayed by you?" He left the bottle with Merric at this point. Aware he himself has had enough. He couldn't get out of his bean bag trap if he even tried. Even allowing himself to sink deeper into it until he was staring up at Merric from what was now a bean bag bed and not a chair. "Why do you have to be so conclusively hard on yourself?"

His head was starting to pound. Merric tipped the bottle back and drained the last of the wine out, feeling the warmth of it down his throat. He didn't want to answer Al's question, either one of them; it felt too much like he was standing on the edge of a cliff, ready to topple over at any moment.
"This - that's how I am, I'm not - I'm not hard on myself," said Merric, his chest feeling tight. "This is who I am."

"This is a new start," Al reminded Merric. "You can be and do anyone you want." ....... Wait. Al made a face as it slowly but surely dawned on him what he just said. "I mean," he paused clearly trying to pull words together that make more sense. "You can be anyone you want to be and..." s**t. He had it. Almost there. "... Do whoever you want." Wait, that wasn't right either. "do whatever you want..." He sorta just stared at Merric.

Merric stared at Al, his face slowly beginning to color a red that had nothing to do with the amount of wine he'd consumed.
"I - no I can't!" he said, his voice slightly higher pitched than normal. "That's - no!"

He looked really confused now. "What?... I'm no.. I'm not forcing you?... I meant.... if that's what you thought that was?"

Merric was equally as confused. And also perhaps a little more tipsy than he should have been under the circumstances.
"You just - you just told me that I could - do anyone that I - " he started to say, and then stopped, the flush only growing brighter. "Why would you say that?"

"I misssssss-spoke, but it's technically true too. I wasn't like, trying to pressure you into... like... ******** me or anything." Though he wouldn't have said no if Merric asked. He was definitely attractive, especially when he got flustered like that. But no, they'd been drinking so it probably wasn't the best time for either of them to make decisions. "I just ******** meant... like... the ******** world is your oyster now man. Grab some god damn pearls."

Merric was now looking a mixture of confused, outraged, and mildly concerned. Also the room kept spinning around him rather unpleasantly, tilting back and forth like he was on a seesaw - although Merric couldn't remember the last time he'd been on a seesaw.
"I'm not - that's not going to happen," he said, the words coming out a little too fast, a little slurred around the edges. "I'm not - that's preposterous. I'm not going to do anything of the sort. And there aren't any - any pearls or anything that you're talking - talking about."
Merric tried to roll himself away, but the beanbag was sort of like quicksand, and all he ended up doing was getting further stuck in it.

"I wasn't offering," Al said in both confusion and frustration. "That's my point. Like don't be pissed at me since I wasn't trying to come onto you. " He felt really unsure about what the hell just happened. Wasn't that why he was upset in the first place?
