After some time, the little foxbun wriggled in Leaf's grasp, apparently wanting to go its own way for a while. Sure enough, after a little ways, the foxbun seemed to get tired. It eventually stopped to the side of the road, and Leaf stopped to sit beside it.
She let the foxbun rest for a few moments, but she knew that the road was not as safe as they would be if they could make it to the grove she remembered.
The doe leaned down to nudge the small foxbun, encouraging it with a nuzzle. Watching the edges of the trail, Floating Leaf spotted a small, somewhat spiky plant with brown and yellow leaves. She remembered that it could be eaten to help with injuries, though it tasted something awful. She knew that at least she could choke it down, so she paused to eat some; when she offered some to the foxbun, however, it was absolutely not interested. She ate what she could for herself, at least, but didn't hold them back long. If the foxbun wasn't going to eat any, she needed to get them to a safe place to properly take care of its wounds.OOC Footnote Current HP: 20 + 5 = 25/30 Current Trust: 24 Section notes: Distance: 10/20 (19: You find an herb known for its curative properties on your way to your safe spot. Floating Leaf wanted to move on quickly, but the foxbun seemed to be more interested in continuing the rest that it got while she was eating her bitter herb. But they couldn't dally much longer. The doe leaned down and encouraged the little foxbun to stand. Though the foxbun seemed encouraged enough to travel on its own,
Floating Leaf decided to help it for a little bit. After a short distance, Floating Leaf decided to let the little foxbun try again to travel on its own. It was reluctant, apparently feeling fatigued by its wounds, though they were not bleeding anymore. The foxbun hopped a few feet on its own, but ultimately seemed unsettle. Floating Leaf once again picked up the foxbun and carried it the rest of the way to their destination.
Off the path, she finally caught sight of the trees that indicated they were near their sanctuary. She turned them off the path and brought them through the brush that would keep them hidden. The ground sloped to the grove between two hills and she descended amongst the bushes and rocks that would keep them secluded.
Floating Leaf set the small foxbun in a close area with some defensive rocks.
The animal curled up with itself. FIFTH TASK: Search
Not Floating Leaf turned her attention to the wound itself. It was clearly wearing on the tiny foxbun, and would need a salve or some such to promote healing and ease the strain. Unfortunately, she was not terribly well versed in herbal remedy, only knowing of a few basic plants that could help ease pain or help promote healing.
But when she was younger, she had once found herself in need of aid after scraping herself rather badly on some rocks. An older doe had found her and helped her with a salve, being much better versed in herbal healing. They became good friends, and Leaf considered her a mentor. If memory served, she lived not far, and would be able to offer some guidance.
As it happened, when the green doe regained the path they had come in on, she spotted her friend in the distance. Though her calls were unheard at first, she soon caught up to her friend, and begged indulgence. Though it took some meandering explanation, it was soon explained that Floating Leaf should look for a pond nearby with tall, deep pink flowers climbing beyond its surface. Should she grind those flowers down -- even with some of the pale green herb she'd used earlier -- it should do well to help her small friend.
Once pointed in the right direction, Floating Leaf headed off in search of the fruitful pond. She was glad to find the journey not long -- but distressed to see that a wall of thorns blocked her from her goal. She would need to fight her way past. Still -- she had fought off a caiman, surely she could strike down these vines. After her hooves struck down so well, creating a clean gash in the wall of vines, Floating Leaf felt quite proud. Bolstered by her success, she threw her face into the vines and clamped down with her jaws without hardly thinking about it. Luckily, it paid off as she pulled back with a mouthful of vines, however painful. She was having decent success. Though her mouth and legs ached and she could taste blood from the thorny pricks, she decided to take a chance again and went to bite another bunch of vines. Two mouthfuls of thorns was quite enough, though she was glad that her jaws had made quick work of clearing out the obstruction. She could feel the cool air from the pond washing over her as it came through the vines. She could not quite yet squeeze through, but a good kick would fix that. With a good strike, she ripped a hole wider than needed for herself. SIXTH TASK: Cure
Floating Leaf gathered a good bunch of flowers before heading back to the grove, though of course made sure to leave an abundance of the flowers in their home as well. She found some of the pale green herb she knew better some distance from the pond as well, and had a nice bushel to bring back for use on her new friend's wounds.
She found a large, flat rock on her way back to the bottom of the grove, pushing it along ahead of her so that she could work on it. She started with two flowers, setting her hoof along a ridge and beginning work on crushing the healing flower. She was surprised at how easy the work came. It was calming, to have a less intense goal to focus on, under the warm sun and within the shelter of tall trees. Along with the rhythmic grind of her hoof against stone, Floating Leaf realized she was humming. It had been a quirk of her mentor to hum as she worked, so perhaps it was not a surprise that she had picked it up as she attempted to follow the proper instructions. It was of course also a benefit that the little foxbun seemed quite relaxed as it listened in its sheltered space among the rocks and green beside her.OOC Footnote Current HP: 23/30 Current Trust: 36 + 1 = 37 Section notes: Progress Points: 16/30 (4. After a few moments, the foxbun opened its eyes again and shifted to sit up a bit. Floating Leaf gathered another two flowers to add to the pulp she was creating, and a small sprig of the other herb, and began rolling her hoof over them again. The foxbun watched her grinding with bright eyes, then glanced up at her and seemed almost to smile. It took very little time, and surprisingly little work, for Floating Leaf to finish the salve. She felt refreshed at the idea of finally finishing her work and being able to help the foxbun in a more direct way. The foxbun, too, seemed eager as the paste came to completion, approaching the stone and watching the doe's work carefully.
When the paste was finally the right consistency, Floating Leaf very carefully coaxed the foxbun into letting her see the wound along its leg, hip, and stomach. She gently applied the salve to the wound. Once she was sure she had covered the injury, she nodded at her work and gave the foxbun an affectionate nudge.
